More reasons why SHT is a terrible investment.

You'll have to unlock the 90 items each time you start playing the game from scratch.

The Sims was released in 2000, right? That was 12 years ago and I still play it and have a lot of fun doing so.

The Sims 2 was released in 2004 and by 2011 only 3 years after it's last expansion pack, the official community site was disbanded and there's no longer any support for the game. If you need patches you'll have to rely on 3rd party sites.

Do you think you'll be able to pick up your TS3 game 12 years from now and have the same joy I have now with TS1?

Not with an EP like Showtime you won't. There won't be any support for it by then. And you'll have to bother your friends which probably will not be interested to help you unlock the items.

That is if Simport even works. If EA terminates support of their servers how on earth will you be able to connect with someone and unlock these items?!

The path they've chosen is so wrong in so many ways.

The only way to unlock the items (as far as we know) is through Simport. Actually, if you would have read my post you would have known what I was talking about. *sigh*

Let's just say your HD crashed and you had no external back up of your save games. That means you lost all progress you ever made in the game including the special unlockable items.

N00biityo this is the second time within two days that I've seen you force your opinion on others or give off the impression your opinion is better/fact. I got this impression from the middle section of your post.

There are plenty of people who think SHT is a good investment. There will be plenty of people who will pick up TS3 years from now and will enjoy it. SimCity 3000 was released in 1999 and I still play it. Even though these two games aren't from the Sim series, I still play MechWarrior 2 and 3, and they were released in 1995 and 1999 respectively.

Yes, the SimPort features of Showtime aren't exactly glamorous (haha, pun...), but there are those who enjoy social features, and social features will be around for many, many years. Regardless if there is support or not for it in the future, I wouldn't be surprised if people from around the community pooled together to create a support system for the game. When the MechWarrior series went into decline, a community of modders called MekTek came together, and with permission from the developers, created new patches and game play for MechWarrior so the series would still have a chance to live.

You have no solid proof that years from now, there will be no support for TS3 and its expansions, or that no one will pick it up and play it anymore. You have no proof that people will enjoy playing older versions of games instead of the latest, like you have more fun with TS1. You're also not "bugging your friends" unless said friends have agreed to put forth an effort into the SimPort grind, and who says you have to do it all the time? There are other aspects of the game aside from SimPort. People already look to third party solutions in fixing what's already wrong with TS3, such as Twallan and Awesomemod for instance, and older games will almost always have to use patches from third party sites, support doesn't stick around forever.

I know you'll take this as an attack, as I expect you will, but what I'm trying to get at is that it's frustrating seeing someone take such a condescending tone with others and act like what they say is superior.

Ummm, actually, I'm pretty sure that Simport will use the EA servers. So she may well be correct; years from now the ability to simport and unlock those items may not be possible. EA actually has a disclaimer on their TOU that states that online services can be terminated after 30 days notice.

But I also thought that I read somewhere that once you unlock the rewards, they are available to use in any game you play. I don't think you have to continue to unlock them over and over.

Even *if* SimPort support is discontinued at any point in time, SimPort does not make up the entire expansion. Even with SimPort being included in a patch and with the possibility of it being included in future expansion packs, if the SimPort servers go down, it'll be just like playing TS3 before this SimPort nonsense came about: by yourself. It'll just be pretty crummy that we had to go through the SimPort shenanigans only to have it discontinued at a later date *if* that ever happens.

Now if EA released an expansion pack or stand alone Sims game that based off of SimPort entirely and *then* they discontinued support for it in the future, yeah, I could see that being a problem.

Actually, I think people will get tired of having to use Simport to achieve their goals sooner rather than later, because after awhile it *does* get to be a pain in the behind to have to wait on your friend to host your Sim, and being obligated to host theirs in a tit for tat situation...especially if you're in the habit of playing more than one family.

People act like Simport is going to be such a minor feature in the Sims 3, but if you want to get a taste of what quest driven gameplay is, Sims style, try the Sims Social, and you'll see what I mean. It does get tiresome trying to keep up with your Sims needs, plus having to rely on neighbors to complete a piece of furniture that you've aleady paid for in the in-game store using in-game currency (not real money).

Not saying that you're going to need real money to use Simport. I'm just saying that it is that type of "I'll scratch-you-back-if-you'll-scratch mine" gameplay that doesn't take that long to leech the fun out of a game that you would normally enjoy. I'll be surprised if people are still thrilled with Simport come April and May.

Actually you don't. Once you unlock them, they are unlocked for all your sims, even if you start a new game.

Do you happen to know what are these 90 items ? I am not happy with ST, I don't like it at the moment, but I don't want to say anything bad because somehow I got the feeling that I might end up buying it , yeah sad but true

Anyway, if I need simport to unlock these 90 items then I gonna beg to all Modders out there.. please....please create a Mod to unlock these items without using simport . I don't hate ST, but I DO HATE simport

Ok I've really lost track of this thread...

This is what I've listed as the new features SH gives us and what they mean to me personally. This is my own opinion, 'k?

  • Showtime specific achievements.

  • And? I don't mind just having achievements for the games I've got now.

  • Photobooth, bull, DJ, sphere, pool tables, jukeboxes, golf mat, karaoke machine, chin up bar.

  • Unless I made new clubs like has been suggested these would mostly be unused.

  • Genie.

  • I definitely will not be using this since I dislike cheaty things.

  • Singing profession.

  • Probably the only profession out of the three we get that I'd utilise.

  • Acrobat profession.

  • I wouldn't really use this one since the 'tricks' aren't as fun as the magician and I would probably accidently learn the words to the Simlish songs - which I can't do to this one obviously.

  • Magician profession.

  • Fun to watch, no argument but not for me.

  • Unlockables for stages.

  • This would be good if I was interested in starting a Sim from scratch but otherwise irriating. There were some premades in the neighbourhood though who had already reached the top of their profession though.

  • Vegeterian versions of all dishes.

  • Just an aesthetic change to me, not very important.

  • Tofu.

  • Adds a bit of realism I suppose...

  • Banana trees.

  • I would like this but I'm not spending £25 for just this Especially if the animations aren't properly done too (I didn't look).

  • Sing-a-grams.

  • These would soon get annoying as random Sims in the profession would probably start doing these.

  • SimFest (including throwing/gifting items to other Sims).

  • Much like the neighbourhood events that sometimes happen really. Not that new.

  • SimPort.

  • Highly unlikely I would use this. Especially if it meant my Sim would then come back as a ghost one day.

  • Diva, Born Performer traits.

  • The diva trait was fun but the Born Performer trait seemed like just a skill-booster (like Photographer's Eye, etc.).

  • New rabbitholes.

  • Again, not bothered.

  • MP3 Player.

  • Very useful as it gives a nice long moodboost but no visible headphones for screenshots/machinima

  • New neighbourhood.

  • Another one? It isn't even that different (apart from the new venues). At least from what I saw.

So there's my conclusion I'm still not getting it.

    What about y'all?

You don't have to play SimPort all the time, there are other things to do. As long as you (you meaning you in general) and your buddies mutually agree when you want to do SimPort, the hassle of the grind can be lessened. On top of that, once you unlock your goodies, you have them for the rest of your simmies.

    And also actually,

Jarsie9 wrote:but if you want to get a taste of what quest driven gameplay is, Sims style, try the Sims Social, and you'll see what I mean.

I have played the Sims Social, and it's horrible. I hope that EA doesn't introduce the use of real money for anything SimPort related seeing as we already do that for the Sims Store, but at this point I really do think SimPort is a "minor feature." Yes, it'll be in a patch, yes, it might be in future expansions. Don't want to be bugged by it? Log out before launching the game, au revoir SimPort features during game play. Yes, you miss out on a few outfits, stages, and stage props. BUT! This is why we have the live chat soon, hopefully we'll see more of those items so we can get an idea of what we'll be missing out on should we choose not to SimPort.

Do I like what I've seen of those unlockables? Yeah, they look pretty snazzy. But I could also build my own stages, make my own clothes, and make my own stage props. For those of us who choose not to SimPort, here's a great time for you to start learning how to build your own stages and create your own clothes and objects if you don't already. Personally, if I SimPort or not, I would still like to learn how to create my own clothes/objects and build my own stages. Don't want to do all the work yourself? I'm sure there will be plenty of other builders and meshers out there who will make stuff not long after SHT comes out and they've had time to fiddle with the new goodies.

I'm not attacking you, Jarsie, this is just how I feel, and I feel like I repeat myself a lot. I'm going to go ahead and apologize if you take any of it the wrong way, it's not my intent.
