The latest driver update for NVIDIA video cards (191.07) has an apparent conflict with The Sims 3. Your game may not run properly (or at all) if you're using these drivers.
Until a more permanent solution becomes available, we recommend reverting to an older release of the NVIDIA drivers to ensure that The Sims 3 runs smoothly.

Hi,
The driver issue mentioned has already been confirmed by at least one user with an NVidia GeForce GTS 250. For reference, the original thread can be found here:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/112199.page
Note that the link to the NVidia website mentioned in the EA Support article above is for Windows XP 32-bit, but there are indeed other OS versions available. Please refer the following list for your particular drivers to download:

Windows XP 32-bit

Windows Server 2003 64-bit, Windows XP 64-bit

Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit

Update 11/26/09
NVidia has now released a new WHQL-certified version of the 195.62 GeForce/Ion reference drivers for NVidia graphics cards. If you are still using the 195.39 Beta NVidia drivers, it is advised that you uninstall them via Add or Remove Programs and update to the newer drivers. Please refer the following list for your particular drivers to download:

For those using laptops, please visit your system manufacturer's website for the updated NVidia drivers when they become available. For help with identifying and installing the video drivers, please refer to the following EA Support article:

Update 12/10/09
There is a known conflict with the 195.62 WHQL NVidia drivers and the Sims 3 game. If you have installed these drivers and are experiencing crash issues while using the launcher and/or starting the game, it is advised that you do the following:
1) Uninstall the 195.62 drivers and revert back to the 190.62 drivers until further notice. Uninstall the drivers via Add or Remove Programs only, as recommended by EA.
2) Bypass the game launcher by running the game executable directly.

Same issue here, I have sent a message to official nVidia boards. Hope they will fix this asap, because they occasionally release driver updates.

Is this only for some computers? I'm running the full version of Windows 7 (not RC or BETA, the real deal) and I ran the sims with no issues.

I pre-ordered the Sims 3 and it worked fine until about a week ago when my disc drive stopped working so I am wondering if there is a way I can play it without the disc because I really miss playing it...
Thank you for any help

Mine is: 512 MB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card. No problems with this one and haven't received any update offers for it or checked into it. Hope I'm still good for a at least a while.

Any news on this? I'm running a GeForce 9800 on vista, and the revert won't work because it's for XP, anyone have a link for an older one for vista?

Wow.. I was wondering why it kept crashing. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS running Windows Vista 64-bit on a HP Touchsmart. It always chooses to inconveniently crash after I haven't thought to save for a while. I suppose we're just going to wait for NVIDIA to send out a driver update? I hope it's not too long.. I can't revert back to the old drivers because a lot of the games I play require the more recent ones. Anyways.. good luck to everyone.

Nvidia 8600GT
Not wanting to roll back because it makes WoW, among other games, crash.
I'm crossing my fingers for a speedy fix.

I was wondering why I wasn't able to play the Sims 3.I use a 9500GT using XP and soon going to Win7.I have the drivers from back to 85. and once this "latest" driver came out Sims 3 hasn't worked.I suspected that the driver caused it to fail.I'm glad I noticed this post before starting a thread about this.
Anyways I hope they come with a some what fast driver to fix the problem.I can wait about maybe a 1-2 weeks till I'll be impatient.nvidia is good about getting fast drivers though. We all saw that back when the 90. came out.Anyways all hope it comes here quick.
