Hey, I had the same issue as Alkaid. The reason might be your using windows 7. In that case you need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>>SOFTWARE>>Wow6432Node>>S ims>>The sims 3. Hope that helps!

If you can't Find "SKU" file
This is because you're probably looking under "electronic arts/sims 3 main folder" etc
also Note; There appears to be a sub folder named 'Sims' (Inside Electronic Arts root folder!) this is why so many get easily confused!
No worries I'll List the EXACT loactaion as it appears on My system (shouldn't be to hard for You to find then)
RUN: Type RegEdit
RegistoryEditor: Scroll to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE
Next
DO NOT I repeat DO NOT click ELECTRONIC ARTS
scroll down to a folder called sims (in lower caps) this is located towards the end near The "System" folder!
Now; double click sims, open "The Sims 3" folder
Contains following;
(DEFAULT)
COUNTRY
DISPLAYNAME
INSTALL DIR
INSTALLSTART
LOCALE
SKU >>YES THIS IS IT! >>now Edit and input YOUR region code under "value data:"
i.e 1 thru 7
1 for USA
2 for UK
7 WorldWide
etc
Hit Enter and Voila
it should (cross fingers) work!
EDIT: because I typo'd!
this worked for me with showtime

KiefSaffa wrote:P.S if "2" is already in place in SKU then simply enter the number '7' digit (this is WorldWide) That ALWAYS does the trick!
Lets hope it works, I could always direct you to a site to download a 'standalone patch' (2.2.8.002) That worked for me!
Gamestop is pretty good..but I got a working direct-link to the UK version!
Just ask.
Thanks KiefSaffa so much this really helped me out!
