I've had this problem since I got Master Suite. The game randomly crashes after about 2 hours. It's very annoying, having to save every few minutes, in fear that it might crash....

Ok I have the only solution...
stop buying games from EA they are full of crap. I had sims 3 on a windows pc but i had that problem that many others did where the missing patch for the animals made the pets all deformed, so a few months later i brought a mac, [costed a grand] thinking it would run perfectly. it did and then I installed the latest patch because EA said and i quote "ruin my gameplay" later on, so installed it, sure enough i start playing then it starts crashing. its like they want to be the worst company for computer game. No they don't listen to you when you try to get help they carnet be arsed, so I tried a new computer game from blizzard called world of warcraft, runs excellently no glitches, they sort the patches out for you and the customer service is there top priority, EA get it sorted out because with all these stupid problems no ones going to care.

I tried resetting my permissions, that didn't work, I also tried re-naming the folder technique. In the end, I found the only thing that worked for me was deleting the library folder from within the Sims 3 folder. Now my game runs fine. I hope this works for someone else!

same with me except this happens to me when I use the counter button for the buy mode for the kitchen. It is extremely annoying and closes my game if I say yes or no!

I just got an error like this. I've been playing fine on my Mac since I upgraded my RAM. I bought Town Life and Hidden Springs from Target and installed them on Sunday. Now I'm getting this funky error!
Exception Raised, blah, blah, blah. Ugh!

I've been getting the Exception Raised error pretty consistently during play. After trying pretty much everything else, I tried replacing the meta files per the guide here: http://terra-byte.org/content/ultimate-sims-3-save-game-recover y-guide
Basically you start a new game (using the same town you usually use), travel to any vacation destinations you've visited in your previous game (if necessary), save, quit, then replace the files "1a5tf1l3.dat" "Meta.data" and "TravelDB.package" from the new game folder into your old game folder.
I tried this and I'm no longer getting the Exception Raised error, but my game is still crashing to the desktop occasionally. However, after replacing the meta files it's a HUGE improvement, going from a 90% chance of crashing any time the Saving/Loading/Processing screen came up, to a less-annoying random crash.
For those of you still having trouble, I hope this helps you enjoy the game again!

So since this problem has been around for about a year now and hasn't been fixed, it's good to assume EA doesn't care about us. I have an external harddrive that I put all my Sims 3 stuff on for backup, and then deleted it from my computer. Then I downloaded torrents of all the games. Ran it will all my saved CC and mods for six straight hours, about ten in total. No crashes, no 'exceptions raised.'
SOLUTION:
Pirate everything.
2 weeks without crashes, no regrets. \m/

I HAVE A SOLUTION!
So for the past three days I've not been able to play because of this error. I talked to probably everyone from EA and tried every solution I found. Finally, something worked--
If you don't want to lose a saved game, this isn't for you. You can create a new account on your Mac. Uninstall all of your Sims games from the old account, and install them on the new one. I think Custom Content is what screwed mine up, so I'm trying to avoid that now. Good Luck!

Catkitty2295, I'm glad that worked for you. Let us know if it continues to work, OK?
For me usually a fresh game (i.e. new 'Documents/EA/TS3' folder, not a re-install) runs great for a while and then starts crashing, too.
Not saying the same thing will happen to you - I'd love to know how it runs in a week or two.
There's one other thing that helped me, but I don't know for how long.
I know my Mac doesn't like too many .package files. If I have to many of those installed, it will rebel. Taking out the mods helped, but not enough.
So I looked for other package files and loading crud, and decided to get rid of it all.
I emptied "Featured Contents" and made the folder read-only.
I emptied "Collections" (those useless EA 'per EP' collection files that regenerate all the time) and made that folder 'read only' so they couldn't come back.
Then I deleted DCBackup, except for the file ccmerged.package, which might have something to do with premium content - the rest are just individual backups of the files in DCCache. I think they're necessary when you want to share lots and/or install lots with store content - but I don't do that anyway.
I also turned off the store, and that cute new feature with the obnoxious gold button, for completeness' sake. (I always turn off the in-game store, because my game won't even load when it's on...)
Now the game runs smoothly. I've had a few 'Error 12' (because the game apparently refuses to acknowledge that I have 8GB of RAM it's welcome to use...) but no more 'Exception Raised'. So far...
Like I said above, it may be that this is just a temporary solution and my game will start crashing again, but for now it seems to work.
I'm just putting it out here, as something else to try for all of you who've tried everything else.
I even put three or four mods back in, and it still works. So far...
.

Hello everyone!
Im a iMac user.
Im pleased to report that i once had the "Debug, yes/no?" problem as well but it quickly went away after I tried some of the suggestions offered, I'm not sure what exactly did it, but it worked so i am happy!
1.) i deleted everything out of my downloads file.
2.) I renamed the electronic arts file to "_lectronic arts" as suggested.
3.) I deleted the 4 caches suggested in previous entries on this thread.
Then I sat with my fingers crossed while my game updated with out presenting me with an error/debug message!!!!
It allowed me to update my game, play, and even install the sims 3 pets expansion. I'm so stoked right now, thank you to whoever listed those ideas.

So... I'm running a top of the range iMac - with an SSD - 6 months old. Sims 3 is a road accident and support from EA games is worse.
On my third complete reinstall now and it's still not working. Crashes periodically - exception error.
I have purchased 24,000 simspoints but I can't spend them - because I can't download anything as the game is not the latest version.
So I download the patch again - it changes the executable and then tells me to reinstall Sweet Treats. So I reinstall Sweet Treats. Then I get prompted to download the latest patch, which I do...it then changes the executable and tells me to reinstall Sweet Treats....
So EA - get your act together and fix your **** software patches - or refund all my money and I'll throw your software in the trash where it belongs. I have purchased this pile of crud you are passing off as a game, and every single expansion - which amounts to a lot of $$$$.
I've been playing World of Warcraft for over 5 years and EA games need to take a lesson from Blizzard. If you're going to take money from people to provide software as a service, here's a hint, make sure your service doesn't suck.

(Previously posted on another forum, but posted on this one if others can't get to the original)
I've had the same error a bunch of times; I have the base game and the Showtime expansion pack. The first time I got it I looked up how to fix it... hardly any answers but there was deleting your save file (which was kind of sad, because I had so much family progress in my game) or uninstalling and re-installing the game. I decided to uninstall and reinstall the game.
I started playing a whole new town with no debug error... until I started playing a test town to try to create ghosts and get the grim reaper in our family. I think it was after I "Force NCP: Grim Reaper" multiple times it crashed on me. I just got really annoyed because 1. I lost all of my family progress for my last family and 2. I thought it was over! I just wanted to play my game!!!
So, I deleted the test family and went back to my regular game play. Surprise surprise, it happened again after a while. I deleted that family, then started a new one. I guess since I've been switching around a lot, it doesn't really bug me much any more... just make a new family. But it still does happen. My solution for it not happening in a while: uninstall and reinstall. That's my only solution now, sorry. I'm trying to test new ways and what-so-ever to try and fix this without the gurus help, because they don't really seem to be helping with this problem that much... Well, that's basically it. I hoped I helped some of you
Oh, and by the way, some users have deleted their save file and havent experienced the error in a while. I'm not really sure how long it will last, though. Sorry! Just keep on saving and it might be fine! See ya!
