...yes, yes they did. Whoops.
I'd feel sorry for the poor sims that would have to live in a house Peter Griffin made with or without this SP just thinking about it brings to mind all the 'houses' my cousin used to make on TS1 back when she was about five. Yeugh.

I actually kind of like that they do that. I didn't want to buy Master Suite because IMO, that was just way overboard but I did want a few new things for my sims to wear to bed. The store came out with a set and I bought it.
It just gives me choices.

Its a bad practice and getting worse when you end up paying for reruns and you can't count on anything in your EP being unique when it was sold as unique.
I understand from EA's point of view that it does not matter if you make money off an object the first time they included it or the 10th time, but it really does lower the value. About all you are doing when you buy an EP for some new unique items is renting those until they are released for the base game.
I went ahead and quoted the whole post for context, but it is the bolded part that inspired me to respond/post. My emphasis.
I agree 100% and am totally skipping the argument for why what you say is true unless I need to convince others in a later post
After reading the first two pages of this thread I got impatient, and people did make a lot of valid points back and forth in posts so I figured I'd go ahead and ask:
(and no I don't know if I have an answer myself yet, so I really *am* curious for your opinion here, I'm also 'thinking aloud')
If we accept the premise that including existing content objects in new content releases lowers the value of previously released content (whether it was released in the store, an EP, SP, base game, etc), how would you prefer to see additional meshes released?
Just through the store?
Included in EPs and SPs?
Do new objects need to be unique to an EP/SP to preserve its original utility?
Does a subsequent EP/SP need to offer more utility somehow to make up for including previously used objects?
I guess getting this far, my own thoughts are this:
* I'd prefer to see unique functionality stay unique to EPs/SPs
* I do still want more skins/meshes, though
* I realize EA is likely to re-use content to maximize profits
* To keep me purchasing products, however, the overall value/utility has to remain high compared to cost -- and if it's just reskinned stuff then I'm going to get increasing disenfranchised.
It becomes a factor in weighing overall value of the upcoming SP.
(And yes, there is a voice in there saying 'oh but don't forget you have had the utility of generations since you purchased it,' and me telling that voice, 'but I only bought generations a month ago and I don't want to pay for the stupid slide on the store and in the pack and in generations so that's THREE slides....' -- and since there is so much lost faith with EA to begin with right now, <insert customer history here>, then no, I don't want to pay for the slide again. Where is my discount?)

Personally, I'm thrilled to have different opportunities to get these objects. If someone's not interested in any of the game play that comes with an EP, why should they have to pay 40 bucks just to get a hottub?

I think this is why as far as I can recall, nobody had an objection to the store when it first appeared during TS2 because back then the store literally just sold the items that you got in the EP so if you didn't want everything you didn't have to shell out for everything.
These days it's just another excuse for EA to grub money from people.

I like different varieties of the same object that came from an ep whether it's from the store or a stuff pack.
Example the new candy themed sandbox in kpst. It's cute. Yes I know we Generations introduced this object.
Another example the five hottubs in outdoor living. A few are even better looking then the ones in late night. I'm still hoping I can get a heart shaped hottub from either the store or in a stuff pack.
I"ve passed my idea onto Jennifer Lane and also the store team about a heart shaped hottub and even tweeted Graham about it.

If you mean by 'addition meshes' new ones not seen before I think those could be released in any or all venues. EP's are more about new game play, functionality and animation, while SPs are content and the store is a bit of both given the newer premium content.
In many ways I can see the benefit of releasing previous released meshes with functionality and animations being release in other venues such as the store and SP's but then they should not talk about 'unique' items in EPs. Yes they are unique until some other team decides to release them.
For the most part the store has release unique premium content but SP's keep sliding in content they borrow from EPs while insisting they are all about content only and can't have/add functionality and animations and gameplay in their things. That is until it comes to taking something they want to update with additional functionality and animations.
If you mean that sort of thing by additional meshes - those who already got it in an EP and have to now buy it in an SP to get the new function and animations - I think that should be patchable.
For example, the fireworks, when KPST is released there should be a patch that adds that animation and functionality to the fireworks. If you don't have WA then it patches your game but does nothing unless you install WA. If you do have WA, it patches the fireworks to have that added function and animations and you don't have to buy the SP to get it.

Yeah sorry I didn't clarify more, it was clear to the voice in my head, I need to get better at reading my writing from another person's point of view
I did indeed mean "those who already got it in an EP and now have to buy it in an SP to get the new function and animations" -- so for me, having bought the slide in Generations, the slide in Back 2 Skool, and *if* I got KPST then yeah, I would be buying the same *object* a third time with a different mesh/skin on it.
When I look at it this way, it burns me up inside. I *should* get a discount of some sort.
Would I like it as a patch? Yeah that would be wonderful. The realist in me is mocking me for that. A discount? That'd be nice, but EA has proven themselves to deserve their recent golden award too much lately that I have to be cynical there too.
But at the *VERY* least, you are 1000% (more?) right, they should not advertise it the way they are to make those of us who perked up slightly when they said "oh but you can recolor the content and make it not all Katy Perry-y" and I started to think "maybe it would be worth considering getting this for building and stuff and some of the clothes would be nice recolored..."
I'm way old enough to know better *Pulls hair out.*

I was just thinking how nice it would have been to have gotten an ice cream shaped photobooth. It would have been perfect for the cake dome.

It's just to add more variety and the theme of the slide is different so it goes with other items better. Thats like saying why add 30 different styles of beds when it adds new gameplay, it's just for variety.

This could also be looked at in the other direction. It's common knowledge that in order for EA to give us premium items in the sims store they have to give us a patch first, this means that everyone has to have the new patch whether they buy the store item or not. So technically, they could include the ice cream maker, the cow plant or the baby swing in then next EP (though probably in a diffrent design). Will this make the people that payed for the premium content first upset? Who knows...
