Pretty much the only exception I make is for the free cars from the store, which I can mentally explain away as foreign imported cars.

The cars from the store have English on them? I didn't notice that...I'm going to have to look the next time I play.
And that is a good way to explain it away. Maybe the same could be done for that dress? Use it for a pop star and make her be from somewhere else...maybe.

IIRC, the Renault ones have "Renault" as the license plate. I don't remember if the others have text on them, but I'm pretty sure they do because, well, free advertising.

Renault is French I thought. The company is now Renault-Nissen but essentially Renault is the language of where the car is imported from, and originally built at - - which I thought was France.

I don't have a problem with foreign names on cars in my game, or non English on other imports (motorcycle is one I believe). Its sort of real life like to me that they did it this way on cars. I am sure that Renault having Renault on it, which would be Renault in countries using the roman alphabet so you can make the argument that even the car imported into the sim worlds would still use the language of the car's name.

But yes, I can see where Katy Perry in English on the clothing is a bit jarring and would be better in simlish, especially as the song is sung in simlish - it would be continuity. It just makes me think its more endorsement, although KP does have her name on the costumes she where at least in some what (IE the very suggestive Katy's Kisses). Even that would make more sense in simlish because kissed is in English and does not work with all the other TS3 games with localized languages.

I thought the whole reason for simlish was so that versions in other languages were not stuck with all English signs and stuff which they could not have localized like they do with in game menus and stuff and people would not be stuck hear sims just speak English and songs just in English.

True. I wasn't thinking when I said Renault was English - I guess I meant that I don't like the Roman alphabet in my game/I prefer all writing in Simlish. I think it also gives the game a more varied feel. They reuse the same phrases again and again in their spoken language, but it doesn't get irritating because we don't speak the language. If they were speaking and writing in English, we'd notice the repetition more, I think.

Hi everyone, I need some Candy themed names for my sims for when Sims 3 Katy Perry's Sweet Treats comes out! Anyone got any names? Because I need the names to go with Sims 3 Katy Perry's Sweet Treats. Also I want the Candy themed clothes and hairstyles to kind of match with the names.

For an EXAMPLE:

First name: Candy

Last name: Cup-Cake

Thankyou!

I agree with the whole simlish thing. And while they often repeat the same sounds you can apply those to mean many different things from the tome of voice or body language at the time they utter it.

And I agree with the written simlish language too. Its much nicer when it comes to signs and things that can be re-purposed to mean many different things.

And I thought that the whole idea of simlish in the game was so that only game interface (the part you have to use to play the game) had to be localized to any one country's language but anything in the game that the sims interact with or use or 'see' is in simlish so its the same for everyone and you are not stuck with sims just speaking English or seeing English signage.

So I really see your point of having English on an in game object, or clothing. If they were copying a dress of KP's where she had her name written on it it should be in simlish not English. But I guess they saw it like 'Renault' - an imported car that comes with its name on it in the language of the country it was made no matter where its imported to, even if imported to Sunset Valley or Hidden Springs or whichever sims world you play. I guess no matter where KP performs in the world she doesn't change the language on her clothing so they must have thought that if she really did go to Sunset Valley her name would stay English.

I guess maybe they see the dress as 'branded' content like the T-shirts (which have no writing on them), the IAMS dog food (which does), the various cars (most of them don't) and the JCP clothing (which doesn't) but I an not sure I want to see 10 townies in the park all wearing a dress with KP's name on it in English. Since the dress was copied (I assume from something she has worn) I would think any fan that was playing the game would know that it said 'Katy Perry' even if it was in simlish and those non fan could pretend it said 'Lady Gaga'

At least they did not copy the silver outfit with the tassels on the chest that say 'Katy's Kisses' and we had to see that in English on every other townie LOL!
