Build-n-Share Challenge #159-160 • Big Budget Craftsman Advanced Results
We had three great entries for this round and it was a very hard choice to narrow down a winner. You all did a fantastic job!
ZYIsSims: Nice landscaping added to the home's curb appeal. The porch and outdoor seating offered a comforting oasis. I liked the use of the neutral color palette but the bathroom was a bit busy with the patterned wall covering and wood flooring. The nursery was cute and colorful. I thought thee kitchen had a very earthy and rustic vibe which was nice in a craftsman. The patterns and color choices , in my opinion, were a bit off and not as cohesive as they could have been.
Greenowl77: The exterior siding choices combined with the landscaping to offer a nice touch and curb appeal. The brown and green were nice choices in color palette. My big problem was the abundance of wood and wood tones. it made the interior a bit monotonous and drab. A little more color would have made the interior pop. Now the nursery had the color pop which really accented these rooms as did the green in the bedroom. I thought the patio arbor area was a nice touch which helped congeal the area with the landscaping.
Kulthero777: I really have to say the white trim made the whole exterior facade pop. The interior had a nice color flow and mix. I thought the light blur brought out the wood in the interior. I saw a nice attention to details and decorative elements. Th enursery was very colorful and fun. My biggest criticism was the wood floor pattern. It made the stairs sort of disappear into the pattern. Looking down you had a hard tiime distinguishing stairs from pattern, or I did.
Winner: Kulthero777

Build-n-Share Challenge #161-162 • Welcome Mr. Principle Advanced Results
Some very great entries for this challenge. Another hard decision in narrowing down the entries for one winner. You all did a great job!
Greenowl77: Nice curb appeal. I was not enamored with your siding choice because to me it read more futuristic than modern. You had some innovative touches in your build with the dance floor and game nook. The play room and gym as part of the garage was a nice touch. I liked that you added an adult office and a kid-friendly study. The addition of the pool and treehouse made the build more kid and family friendly! This house had a lot going for it with all of it's family friendly touches and decorative touches.
Optional : I thought this was a clever idea to present the family as a slideshow bio treatment. I think Lolita may have been a little too...freespirited though! LOL!
ZYIsSims: Nice exterior options. I am not too sure about the planters although they do add curb appeal and draw the eyr into the lot. I liked the quaint, streamlined outdoor area that was fenced in for the family. This home had a really nice kitchen and dining room that really stood out to me. The living room also looked very accomadating to a larger family which is a plus. Maybe a little more decor items would have helped make this home a little more memorable. All in all this was a nice and quaint home and made a good new home for the Principle family.
Optional: I liked how you had the family interacting within the home in the pics.
Lionpaws: I really liked this take on the multi-level home. It really stood out and had some curb appeal. The gym was very colorful. The dining room/kitchen was my favorite area. The mix of colors really worked in this area. Watch the color comboinations and patterns in some of the rooms, especially the living room. They tended to overpower each other. I was glad to see you used sim generated artwork in your lot as it was a homey touch. The nursery was adorable. This home was unique and colorful and stood out.
Winner: Lionpaws
Optional Challenge Winner: Greenowl77

#159 – 160 Big Budget Craftsman – Beginners Results
Nikkifin:
To begin with I would like to say I love the use of your wallpaper in the front entry, it is a very excellent choice. The home as a whole, feels very cozy and warm. In the dining room I really enjoy the style you used, it creates a great flow between the dining room and kitchen. I like how you eat used the unique color in the bathroom that still keeps up with the flow of the floor plan. The area rugs in the upper Hall were a great idea.
Maybe in your next build take a little extra time to soften the terrain so there aren't such major drops just open up the terrain editing tool and use the soften. You maybe could also use some plants to break up the drop-off.
Overall I believe you did a very good job and I'm glad that you have decided to join Build and Share.
JGROCKS2010:
I would like to start by saying I believe you are improving each build you enter, keep up the good work. Your first floor I like how you tied all three of the rooms into a very livable area. Your color scheme choice throughout the entire build was excellent. My favorite aspect of your design was how you made the little office the focal point of the Master Suite. You also did a great job with the landscaping.
You are definitely getting better with the light situation. May I suggest for your next build take the time to double check and make sure you do not have too many lights close together; walk through your house and see how the ceiling lights are placed.
OB0E_Sim913:
Welcome to your first build and shared challenge. First off I would like to say I believe you did a great job with your landscaping. I noticed that throughout the build you had a very conscious tie in of the color and design scheme. Very good Job! I really liked how you used the space on the stair landing with the little table. I also liked the his and her closets. It sold me the house!
Overall I believe you did a very well design scheme. Maybe in your next build take a little extra time with the landscaping and terrain paints to show differences in the color of the lawn.
PhoenixRyder:
I see you also improving on every single entry. The exterior detail and color is layered very well. The pool shape is very fun for kids. Would it not be great to be able to choose the pool depth for toddlers? I believe your design in general was very well thought out and communicated. My favorite part of your design was definitely the nursery. The entire design was flowing and homey feeling. I believe you are ready To Move up to the Intermediate category.
I must say this was a very difficult challenge to judge as each of you entered a very wonderful design. So finally After this long 4 weeks of waiting the winner of the Build & Share Challenge Big Budget Craftsman:
Is...

#161-162 • Welcome Mr. Principle Beginner Results ... are finally complete.
Thank you all for being patient.
SimmyElise:
The architectural design of your build was not quite contemporary, however, it was a very nice build and felt very well planned out. Great use of landscape plants. You had a very nice grouping in your living room; perhaps next time consider the use of a floor rug to help define this area a bit more. Moria's room is the perfect size for a teenager I like how you combined the nursery and the master suite the master bath is just perfect for a couple.
Please check page 1 of the forum for the official guidelines for taking and submitting photographs, your submitted photographs should only be taken in live or terrain paint mode. Your house description was great and your family history was really good also. Overall you did a great job with your first entry hope to see many more.
Nikkifin:
Nice use of multi-texture on the exterior. Perhaps more use of terrain paints. Your build was quite contemporary with the open concept. The kitchen was definitely perfect for a large family where all would have access and the flow through to the living room was very subtle. I loved the alcove in the second bath! Great use of the columns. The teen daughter's bedroom is perfect.
JGROCKS2010:
The architectural design of your home is very well thought out. The kitchen and dining room flow together very uniquely your landscaping is minimal but very effective for curb appeal. As always, you had a great use of color and design scheme throughout the home.
This is difficult for me to SAY, as you have entered so many great builds in the past, this particular build felt rushed for me. Just remember, you have two weeks to complete, please don't rush take your time to double check details.
Have you heard of
Picasa ?
It is a free downloadable photo program that is great for saving and organizing your photos & making videos using your pictures; you can write on the actual photos and also on the movie frame.
PhoenixRyder:
The house definitely had great use of colors and wallpaper combinations. Your first floor flowed together so well was great use of color scheme. The kitchen was absolutely fantastic! I apologize; I have no more to say about your build. Your use of color and your interior were well thought out. However, the home itself was not very contemporary.
I definitely understand the crashing thing well. I am sorry you had to go through it. It took me almost a week to get everything I lost back!
This was a very difficult build to judge. Thank you all for taking the time to enter.

Thank you for the feedback! I may indeed consider entering as intermediate soon, but sadly I will probably not enter many of the coming challenges, as university starts in two weeks, and I will not have my sims 3 games with me
I was tempted to put a fountain beside the pool to make a toddler swimming area, but as toddlers can't use the pool anyway... I only just discovered the wallpaper and floor tiles that I used in the nursery. I think you may see a lot of it in future builds

Thank you! I ended up sacrificing the contemporary-ness for fitting in all the rooms. I probably could have changed windows and maybe the exteriour a bit after I was done, but I think it is a very nice house.
