The Sims franchise has always had a huge g.a.y following. I'd bet no other subset of The Sims community modified the game as much as the g.a.y.s did (much to the chagrin of the designers if I recall correctly). The Sims offered g.a.y kids and adults, everywhere, the ability to act out their lives and loves without the often-times harsh real life consequences associated with them.
In The Sims 2, the game had a hidden relationship counter. If you were a user of say "The Inseminator" or other modifier type item, you could see that hidden counter. Basically, it measured your interaction with male or female Sims. For example, g.a.y male Sims would likely only interact with male Sims resulting in a high Male Relations Counter. This in turn caused your g.a.y Sim to, when left to his own devices, only interact with other male Sims and ignore the female Sims.
Now, maybe it's because I've only owned this game for about 24 hours now (played it for a good 10 hours) and haven't been able to fully build up male relations. It seems, however, no matter how often I avoid girls with my Sims and no matter how often I only interact with male ones...if I leave my Sim to do his own thing, he'll chat to the first female Sim he comes across and befriend her.
Did the designers remove the hidden relationships counter from The Sims 3? Or is it simply much much much more difficult to align a Sim toward a certain sexuality now?
-edit- I removed the incorrect mention of g.a.y marriages.
As far as male Sims getting pregnant...I miss the alien insemination event but honestly, I'm fine with adopting children or using a surrogate.
-edit-
Having to use g.a.y is just plain shameful.

They really removed *** marriages? Wow, that is so not progressive... I hadn't even heard of that and considering it seems like one of the premades profile is hinting that he is homosexual I am a bit confused and surprised.

Seriously?
They won't allow same-sex marriages?
Um.. didn't Sims 1 earn TONS of praise for being one of the first AND ONLY games to allow openly homosexual relationships?
And we have to use g.a.y because stupid people use it as an insult, not due to discrimination against homosexuals. .. I hope.

Yup, and I take offense in the forums censoring g.a.y, are you trying to shove it back in the closet EA webmasters? Come on, if someone uses the term in a negative way then let people report it, being g.a.y or talking about g.a.y is not something that needs to be censored in todays modern age.
I will be a bit miffed if they have removed g.a.y marriages from the game, sometimes I want my sims to be g.a.y and it's only in a video game where they can do so without the pressures of society telling them they can't get married. I've not checked it myself as I've not played it long enough for that, my sims mostly just want to watch the tv right now, but I will someday want the g.a.y ones to get married too!

That was one of my big worries about this game, and it seems to be true. I hope that they fix this in a patch, because it's wrong to force everyone to be hetero. I'm bisexual and want my Sim-self to be too. If EA did this on purpose, shame on them!

Are you sure g.ay marriage isn't allowed? It may just be because of the new interaction system not always showing "propose marriage". I know a lot of people had the same problem with straight couples...where it doesn't always show up to "propose marriage" or even "ask to move in". I guess I'll have to look into it more.
And I agree, I hate that g.ay is censored. Its incredibly insulting. Yeah, it can be used as an insult, but the fact remains that it still is a word to describe someone who is homosexual. Its like if they decided to censor the word "blonde" because people used that as an insult. Its really annoying.

Maybe had to do with Prop. 8.
And a patch to fix this better be like a seperate patch.
Just not a preference of mine.

Not only can you have homosexual relationships in the game, no problem (wife/wife), but sims will SPONTANEOUSLY have such relationships via the story progression tool.
Which, on further thought, is probably about to **** off a whole *whack* of people.

Yeah that's bullpatties to not have *** marriages. I have a *** couple but I hadn't tried to have them marry yet?
And I agree that it's laughable that we can't say g.a.y. here on this forum?
What is this? 1970?
What a joke.

This just depresses me. I have always had male sims who prefer and are with other male sims. This is sad in my opinion. My game won't be nearly as real and fulfilling as it could have been.

By the way, removing g.a.y marriage from the game was just out-right wrong and a slap in the face of today's greatest civil rights movement. It would be a good idea to fix this in a patch as soon as possible.

I am all for equal rights. Whether you support it or not, its a fact that there are *** people in this world and they should be treated just like everyone else in my opinion.
The fact that they may have changed it so that this is not possible bothers me a lot. It was possible in TS1 & 2, and should be available in this one too. I find it odd that they would purposely leave it out.
Hope they fix this in a patch, and quickly.
