The White Box Challenge II (201-202)
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
The White Box Challenge
This challenge was inspired by HGTV's Design Star. For those that follow this series, each season, there's a "white box challenge" that all of the designers have to compete in. Basically, this is the same thing. I took "Minihaus" from 53 Maywood Lane in Sunset Valley, removed a few items, and changed everything to white.

Your challenge is to CAS it up! Show off your sense of style! This is how you would want to design it if you had to live there. You may add items to the rooms, but all existing objects must remain in the house. You can re-arrange items withing the existing rooms, however, you like.
Some notes:
Your budget is not to exceed 80k simoleans.
You MUST reuse every single object already in the house.
Don't forget the exterior.
When you take screenshots, make sure to take clear screenshots of your interior rooms.
No walls can be added or removed, but you can move around windows and doors if you would like.
Have fun designing!

For part two of the bicentennial challenge, you will create a lavish, red-carpet worthy party space from an existing game warehouse layout! You must use Drea's Salon and Tattoo from Twinbrook (1144 Lakefront Drive). If you don't have Supernatural, you can download the property
HERE. It's a 20x30 space but can be moved to a 30x30 lot for the challenge.
The existing exterior of the space should remain the same (i.e. the warehouse look of the lot), but you can add decorative features and textures. You can change the brick texture as long as it is for another brick texture.
Requirements:
You cannot change the exterior layout of the walls. All existing exterior walls must remain in place.
You can add/change interior walls, windows, and doors.
Exterior should retain the "converted warehouse" look, although you can exchange the current siding for a similar one.
You must have a "
step and repeat" red carpet area outside as well as a valet/parking area.
Inside needs at least two separate bar areas and at least one food area.
Bathroom facilities are required.
Need at least one outdoor patio/deck seating area.
Should have a "VIP" party area.
As much as possible, decorate your party space with the Build-n-Share Bicentennial Party in mind - this will be part of your score.
Have fun, and be creative
To commemorate this milestone in BnS history, the prizes will be slightly different - for this challenge only each category 1st place winner (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), will receive 500SP worth of items from their wishlist!

Bicentennial Blitz - Part 1 - CAS (198-200)
For part one of the bicentennial challenge, you will create a sim or simself to represent you at the Bicentennial Blitz party that will be held following Part 2 of the challenge. This will be a red carpet event, so make sure your sim is dressed-to-impress! If you already have a simself, feel free to use it. Just link to it in the thread. (Make sure it has appropriate formal wear for the party!) This part of the challenge will not be judged. The second part of the challenge, the judged portion, will be released this weekend. Even if you're not sure you'll be able to participate in the building portion of the challenge, please create a sim so that you can be represented at the party!

Jitters - a community lot (196-197)
Sorry - no fancy story for this one (yet). A young, hipster couple has commissioned you to build and design their dream business - the basic idea is to create a coffee house/bookstore community lot. If it has space for music performances at night, even better. The lot should be no larger than 30x20/20x30 (can be even smaller).
Challenge Brief
* The store should have at least a functional book register and a food register, as well as at least one coffee machine.
* It should have a hipster vibe that would make the coffeehouse crowd want to hang out there.
* Outdoor seating is required.
* At least one restroom is required (can be unisex).
* Budget is $60,000
* CC is allowed, but please list/link/credit them when you submit so that downloaders can find them!
* Entry must be fully landscaped and decorated.
Ready... Set... GO!
Optional Challenge:
Snap a candid (or staged with pose player) shot of townies enjoying the new coffeehouse space you have created.

University Roomies (192-193)
It's the start of a new week, and you settle into your desk with anticipation. Mr. Du Trieuex was thrilled with his new get-away apartment, and you are excited to delve into the next design challenge. Rose bustles in with a thick file and drops it onto your desk with emphasis.
"Drop everything - this is your next client," she says excitedly.
"Who is it?" you ask as you begin to flip through the file.
"Not WHO," she tells you, WHAT - it's Sims University!"
"The University?" you ask, a bit puzzled.
"Yep." she confirms. "The Housing department is looking to diversify into the off-campus housing market. Not every sim wants to live in a dorm, after all. The head of housing figures that the University can make a good bit of money and maybe stave off a tuition hike for the students if they can get in on this market."
"Hmmmm...." you muse. "I can see the potential there. What do they want us to do?"
"Well, they're thinking duplexes with small, two-bedroom units. They figure they can buy up some of the older homes near the university, demolish them, and put several duplexes on each lot."
"Well, that would certainly provide them with a nice, new revenue stream," you agree.
"Here's the best part," Rose continues. "They've randomly chosen four sims from the incoming freshman class - two girls and two boys to live in the first duplex. They want us to design and decorate it for the students. They're hoping to get a good buzz going with some promo pictures and word-of-mouth advertising if the students are pleased with their new digs."
"Ah, sounds like an interesting job," you agree as you start looking at the information on each student. The University has included their admissions applications as well as the personality inventories that they use to match roommates in the dorms. Rose quietly backs out of the office and leaves you to your work...
The Students:
Yasmin Alves: Over-Emotional, Artistic, Brooding, Neat, Eco-Friendly
Kimberly Colston: Good Sense of Humor, Hopeless Romantic, Born Saleswoman, Excitable, Flirty
Enzo Carvalho: Eccentric, Genius, Computer Whiz, Hates the Outdoors, Night Owl
Danny Maroon: Natural Born Performer, Rebellious, Great Kisser, Star Quality, Virtuoso
Design Brief:
*Create and decorate a small duplex with two bedrooms and one bath in each of the adjoining units
*Can have a small outdoor area, but keep in mind that Uni sims will most likely not be doing extensive landscape upkeep
*Furnishings should be stylish, but not extravagent - these are Uni students, after all.
*Should have a small kitchen with room for 2 or more to eat
*Common area should include lounge and study options for 2
*The four bedrooms (2 per unit) should be decorated to reflect the personalities of each of the four incoming freshmen.
*Lot size should be no larger than 20x20
+Budget: 70,000
Du Trieux Pied a Terre (190-191)
"Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir..." The sound of Rose's absent-mindedly off key singing at the copier wafts in through your open door. "Hmmm... this should be interesting," you think to yourself.
Still humming, Rose walks into your office and begins stacking folders in your inbox. She starts a bit as she notices you looking at her expectantly. "Oh!" she exclaims in embarrassment. "Was I singing out loud again?"
"Yes. Yes, you were," you confirm with a grin. "And quite a... well, interesting song I'd say." Rose grins, and you think you see a hint of a blush on her cheeks. "Anything to do with our new client?" you ask innocently.
Rose blushes even deeper. "Maybe," she says a bit defensively trying to look offended, but her stern look is totally upstaged by a rueful smile.
"Tell me about him," you urge. "Our conference call is in an hour, and I want to make sure I'm prepared."
Rose collapses into a chair, and you think you detect a hint of dreaminess in her eyes. "Olivier Du Trieux is his name. And, of course, he's from Champs les Sims." She says this with finality as if it should explain everything.
"Ah, well," you allow. "He sounds interesting. Is there anything else I should know about him?"
"Oh, he's
very handsome," Rose continues. "And he's looking for a pied a terre in Bridgeport as he's going to be performing surgeries at the Sacred Spleen as a visiting specialist. But he doesn't want to give up his home in Champs les Sims"
"Hmmm... a
pied a terre, that's something new for us," you muse.
"Oh, and I haven't told you the best part," Rose continues. "He's head-over-heels in love with Caroline Custard. They met while she was on assignment for a story in Champs les Sims. It's been a bit of a rocky long-distance relationship," Rose confides, "but Olivier is convinced he can win her love if he's closer, and they can spend some time together."
"Sounds like you and Olivier have really hit it off," you remark.
Rose blushes again and stammers a bit. "Oh, well, uhm.... No, I've just been... I mean... I.... I HAD to interview him, uhm, thoroughly to find out what he needs," she finally squeeks before rising and trying to back out of your office.
"Thank you, Rose!" you assure her before she goes. "All kidding aside, you've done a great job of getting to know Olivier and have made my work that much easier."
Rose smiles at you gratefully as she leaves the office.
"Okay, Mr. Du Trieux," you mumble aloud as you fire up the video conference software. "Let's see if you're really as charming as Rose has set you up to be..."

10x10 Eco-Chic (188-189)
The dust is just starting to settle after finishing up the big hotel project, and you finally have a moment to sit down and sort through the upcoming projects in your inbox. A folder with a big, pink sticky note that says "Thursday/ 4 o' clock" on it catches your eye. You glance at the clock. "One o' clock now," you think to yourself. Better get started with this one...
In what seems just a few moments later, Rose knocks on your door. "Yes, Rose?" you respond distractedly.
"Your 4 o'clock appointment is on the phone. She's in the area a little early. Would you be able to meet with her now?"
You look at the clock again and shake your head as you find that it's almost 3:30 already. "It so just happens that I've been reviewing the file and sketching for the past couple of hours. Tell her to come on in."
A few minutes later you rise to shake hands with Heather Green. You're a bit surprised to see someone in hiking boots, shorts, and a safari hat in your office and look quizzically at Ms. Green after introductions are made.
Heather laughs a little uncomfortably. "I don't always look like this," she says and brushes self consciously at a stray leaf on her shorts. "Well, actually I do," she admits and laughs.
You laugh along with her and gesture for her to have a seat. "I'm an ecologist at the Laandgrab Science Facility" Heather explains. I was out nearby looking for rare species of beetles today."
You glance about nervously. "You didn't bring any of them in here did you?" you ask with panic rising in your voice.
"Oh, no." she assures you. "My samples are all in my van. But I do need to get them back to the lab quickly. I want to identify them as soon as possible. I found a really interesting specimen that I've never seen described before. That's why I wanted to meet with you a little early. This could be a career-making discovery."
You sigh with relief. "No problem at all. I've been working on sketches based on the notes Rose took, so this shouldn't take us too long unless you have any new requests. I understand that you have a very small lot to build on. 10x10 if I'm not mistaken. Are those the correct dimensions? That really is quite small."
"Oh, yes. That's correct," Heather assures you. "Being an ecologist, I see the impact that humans have on the world on a micro level. I'm selling the family estate I inherited for something that reflects my own values a little better."
You nod encouragingly as you take notes. "Small spaces can definitely work if you're willing to make some sacrifices on has become standard for most home."
"I'm definitely looking to downsize," agrees Heather. For one thing, I don't want an expansive yard that has to be watered like the lawns on the family property. I'd prefer a more natural landscape using native plants and materials. And the usual large living spaces aren't really a must either."
"I think I can give you what you want, but it might require multiple levels to fit in all the amenities of a modern home."
Heather shakes her head emphatically. "I don't want a high rise. That's not the point at all. Two stories is plenty. I'd like an open living area on the bottom with a kitchenette and dining for at least two. You can put the bedroom and main bath upstairs. That's really all I need. If you could fit a 1/2 bath on the bottom level, that would be great, but it's not a deal-breaker if you can't."
Sketching furiously, you begin to make changes to your design. "Do you have any preferences on the finishings?"
"Well, they should be natural and sustainable materials, for sure. I'll have plenty of money from selling the family property, so I'll be able to spend a little extra money in this area."
"What about the color scheme?" you ask.
"The colors of nature make me the happiest," Heather says with a sigh. "The green of a new leaf in spring, the light blue of an early morning sky, or even the deep orange of a sunset.... there's so much beauty in nature"
You nod as you note "spring," "sunset," and "natural colors" in your design book. Beginning to wrap up the meeting, you ask the question that you always dread to hear the answer to, "And what is your budget for this build?"
Heather tilts her head and looks undecided for a moment. "Well," she says hesitantly, "I'm a bit torn on that front. I'll get quite a sizable sum from selling the property I inherited. Enough that I could spend quite a bit on this new house and still live comfortably for many, many years. But I don't want to write a blank check, either. That would be irresponsible and wouldn't reflect the values of "reduce, recycle, and re-use" that I live by..."
You look at her expectantly as she thinks.
"How about $60,000?" Heather asks. "I think that will allow plenty of budget for the sustainable materials I want to use while still staying within reason."
"That's certainly a budget we can work within," you agree. "We'll have something for you to review in about two weeks."
Challenge Brief:
*Create a two-story residential home on a 10x10 lot
*Homeowner is a female ecologist
*She requests natural, sustainable materials
*Prefers a color palette based on nature
*Wants to downsize and reduce her carbon footprint
Optional Challenge:
Create Heather Green with these traits: eco-friendly (can be green thumb if you don't have EP), loves the outdoors, loner, genius, workaholic
Share 10 photos (maximum) showing Heather in her work life, social life, and in her new home.
