Norton is a small city, that was originally mining town. It might have become a ghost town had it not been for the fact that Ranchers started using the area years before that happened. As a result it was one of the wealthiest towns in the Sim West. Even after there wasn't enough gold left to fill a tea cup there was still enough revenue to keep the town a float, and with the help of the tourist industry, Norton eventually grew into a small city. In addition to the downtown area, dominated by small shops and low rise apartment buildings, there are few large suburban neighborhoods, and some farms on the outskirts of the city. Some the people who live in the country nearby have horses, but the city isn't designed for them. Norton is a mix of the very old, and the very modern. Many of the buildings are historic landmarks, and the city is said to have its share of secrets.

Features,

1. Content from every single expansion pack up to and including Pets.
2. Will not require any Stuff Packs or any expansion packs made after Pets.
3. No CC or Mods used. However, you will need to download some free store objects
4. My first map to have tombs since Las Montanas Rojas! Norton has lots of Land Mark Tombs (In the form of historical landmarks) as well as some hidden tombs.
5. Note that the Landmark Tomb Designation will not be used, since it doesn't work outside of vacation destinations.
6. Apartments, but no Shell Buildings.
7. Suburbs as well as farms, some with stables for horses.
8. A small compact downtown with lots of historic and modern buildings, suburbs, horse ranches, lots of country side and beach, in addition to tombs.
9. Every single community lot in the game so far will be included on the map, other than "Base Camp." Landmark tombs will be given a "no visitors allowed" designation and hidden tombs will be hidden in other types of lots.
10. This is a World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets all in one hood map.
11. Not that because there will be hidden tombs, most of the community lots will be locked to prevent players from accidentally breaking one of the tombs. However, there will be lots of fake buildings that will only be included on the map, that will only be there as filler, and some empty community lots, both are reserved for your use.
12. Yes the Town is named after the Anti Virus Software : )
13. New Version has a wedding venue that left unlocked so you can buy it have your wedding there. Its on a new lot as well.

Also I forgot to mention. There will be a saved game file with more than one hundred sims, and pets, and even ghosts will be included!

updates 6/29/12 and 8/26/12 and 11/4/12 and 1/28/13 and 2/8/13

The final version of the map finally is here.

Here's a list of store items you will need. Keep in mind that some of these may no longer be available. But first make sure you have all these store items, as well as all the expansion packs prior to Showtime. No stuff packs were used, so don't worry about them.

Sets,

The Registration rewards for World Adventures and Ambitions. You will also need a registered limited edition of Pets for the pet store, and the objects that come with it, however, you should still be able to play with the map without it. If you don't have the Pets limited edition, and can't get it, I suggest you replace my pet store with something else. You will also need Riverview for Norton, plus these sets,

Feista Urban Streetscape,
http://store.thesims3.com/fiesta

Toyota Prius and Toyota eco pack ( Don't know which version I used but it was an older version, and the newer one is backwards compatible, so don't worry)
http://store.thesims3.com/prius

Harvest Bounty
Fall Fruition
In The Dawn of Sims
The Sims Strike Back
Let There Be Sims
Weba Yayfoo!
Eye Of The Bolder 10
Iam's Pet Starter Kit (requires you to register pets.)

Individual objects for you to download.

Tom Sled Sleeper
Lord Sponge's Computer
Perfecto Presto
Fanta (R) Fridge
Mega Lord Sponge
Desktop Lord Sponge
ModernHDTV by Websta Industries

The final version is here and I was able to get the map and the saved game file in the same folder without it being over two hundred mega bytes, you will be able to download them both together

Download the map here and its saved game file here.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?c8sln3ry5naldq6

Update 2/09/13, Norton is now on the exchange as well

Now you can down the map from the exchange if you would like to as well if you don't want the saved game file.

http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=6974702

And if you have already downloaded the map, but not the saved game file, it can be downloaded separately here.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bkm3b0eu015bao8

Oh, one more thing, here's an important text file, about the map that I forgot to upload with the saved game file. You should download it, and read it. The file name is Norton_Important_Notes. It mentions a few things about the map and the saved game file, you should know.

http://www.mediafire.com/view/?31495adnzpp0g26

I would like to know how you feel about Norton and the sims that live there. Also I would like to know about how you're customizing the map, especially if you have Showtime, Supernatural or Seasons.

Update 9/14/12: Potion Shop Download for people who have Supernatural

Also, I don't think I'll be fully updating Norton for Supernatural, but for those who have the expansion pack, I created a potion shop specifically for this map. Here are some screenshots of the new potion shop. Its a separate download and will not be included with the map. If you've played Norton before, you should recognized were its located. For those of you who have not, I redesigned the fake building at 1114 Historic Main Street, and turned it into a potion shop. If you download Gweneth's Potion Peddlers you can bulldoze that building and replace it with this.

Here's the download link for anyone who would like to add it. I might upload it the exchange later.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4om94dyipf81hjb

Note that you will need the Limited Edition of Supernatural for that green "pea shooter plant" in the fourth picture.

Older Stuff
--------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------
Here are some pictures of the second beta for Norton, including the wedding Venue, but without the potion shop. Most of these sims are included in the saved game file

Wish I had noticed that a piece of the ceiling texture was missing, oh well, that won't be hard to fix.

Now onto the new venue.

Hey DOLLERDRMS1, Guess what this is?!

Its on a new lot as well. I found a place for it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to update the street addresses, since I got confused less than halfway through. The New Wedding Chapel is located at the end of Hunter Road, by the beach!

Norton as of 12/23/11

Here are some early pictures of Norton. It looks more finished than it actually is since most of the buildings right now, including the homes are empty, but I wanted to give you guys an idea of what the city should look like when it is finished. Its far from finished and as I work on the city, I may change the look of some of the buildings ever so slightly as well as improve terrain painting. The first picture is an overhead view of what the city looks like now. After that, scan through the other screen shots, and try to guess what each of these buildings will be when they are finished. Can you guess what they are? I'm not counting the rabbit holes of course, because you already know what they are. Note that there will be duplicates of somethings. For example, Norton will have more than one Museum and more than one Library.

Update 1/19/12: Playtesting now, new pictures - Please Comment!

Okay I decided it was time for my first update. I just started Playtesting Norton for the first time. Already I've run into some problems, including some involving one of the tombs, but I won't show any pictures of that, since all the tombs, other than the landmark ones are going to be a secret, and I'm not ready to talk about them yet. In the meantime, I finished the apartments, with one exception, I'm going to add one more for reasons that I will discuss a bit later here. I also finished all the mansions, and I'll show you some pictures of them in the next update. I also finished most of the downtown venues. I didn't improve the terrain painting. I really thought I should do more playtesting, and finish a lot more of the buildings, especially the houses first. But don't worry, I will get to that.

I placed The Marcks, one of my households in the world (note that you will not come across them in the official saved game file, I'm just using them for playtesting), but one of the first places I had them visit was the RK Kelly Public Library.

These are you first images of the inside of that building, oh, and it looks like I've given something away, take a look at this picture and see if you notice it. It can be hard to spot, but if you look closely enough...

As you can see they also have a children's section. I wonder what else is hidden in this building.

I placed the marks in this apartment building. Most likely you will not be able to afford to have your family live here when you first start out, at least not fully furnished.

This is Mr and Mrs Marcks in the Kitchen

Here's the master bedroom, where they sleep

This is their daughter's bedroom, there's also a third bedroom for their teenage son. In addition their apartment has two bathrooms.

There son has just come home.

Here's the top down view of their entire apartment.

I sent Mrs Marcks to the Norton Aquarium. Its not finished yet, for one thing, I wasn't able to get the fish to appear. At first the fog emmiters just did what their name suggests and gave off fog. Even when I tried to fix it, nothing showed up, at least they were no longer emitting fog. I don't know why, I was able to get it work outside of Create A World. If I'm unable to do so in Create A World, I might just use the regular electronic fish tanks, but those won't look as good.

I was however, able to finish the "gift shop." Its just for show, unless you want to download a mod to make it work. Its pretty dark since no one is in there, but I think you should get an idea what it looks like from this image. Maybe I should make it a public area to keep those lights turned on.

I've really got to fix the roof in the diner on the Aquarium's third floor.

This is the Cat's Meow, Cat Jungle. I just finished creating it a couple of days ago, but it needs to be playtested a bit.

Here's a picture of Bowser's Park, the local dog park with a family generated by the simulation that goes by the name of Huff spending time there. They don't have a dog, but they decided to go there for some reason. I'm going to get back to them in a bit.

Story progression my not be the worst part of the Sims 3, but it isn't the best either. The simulation decided to place this lady and her horses in this house for some odd reason. Despite the fact that it doesn't have stables or much room to add them.

On the other hand, I was pleased that story progression had placed the Huffs in this building.

I actually wondered for awhile if story progression would place families with kids in apartment buildings and it turns out that it does.

Here's one of my clubs. Its the fanciest lounge in town, called Napoleon's Nose. It actually has a sort of French slash western theme. You'll get an idea when you see the inside.

Fancy huh? Starting out, even in the official saved game file, Norton won't have a lot of celebrities, but maybe you could change that, and I can imagine a lot of rich and famous people hanging out here.

Here's a much lower end bar, called the Thirsty Cowboy. Its located across the street from the movie studio. Its actually the local watering hole

Notice all the wildwest decor. It really looks like a saloon doesn't it?

Nearby is Jenny's Pawn Shop (I think that's what I called it). Its one of Norton's two consignment stores. There's a much bigger fancier one, down town, in the form of a large two story department store. Maybe I'll show off some pictures of it in the next update.

This is what you might see walking into Jenny's Pawn Shop. There's also some clothes racks, a dart board, some relics, and an arcade machine, not pictured here.

Now here's another dive bar, but its a bit fancier than the Thirsty Cowboy. Alligator Pizza is the local sports bar. Notice the gator statue outside. How does that look?

Here's the inside of the restaurant.

Now onto the last thing I'm going to show off in this update. Check out where your sims in the Stylist profession will work if they live in Norton. This is the Urban Salon. Its actually one of the most modern buildings in the city, but I don't think it clashes with Norton's historic landmarks.

Now lets enter through the front door. I think those are the stylist and tattoo artist NPCs. If you're wondering the tattoo chair is in the basement.

That's it for now. Please comment on anything you like or dislike so far. I could really use your constructive criticism. I really would like to hear back from you guys. I'm really disappointed that I didn't get any comments as of yet, and I really want to know what you guys think. Let me know. I will appreciate it, even if you don't like what I'm doing, and you maybe able to help me improve Norton. Its not even half way finished and could use a lot of improvement, and I could use your input.

Update 2/12/12: Updated Pictures, more information

Okay, guess what its time for another update. Maybe I was a bit over dramatic. I haven't even gotten started on the starter houses yet, and still need to do a lot of work on the Landmark tombs. Still its looking better here are some updated screen shots of Norton.

Here's the first updated picture of the town. Notice the trees on the mountains in the background. What do you think of them? I hope I don't have get rid of too many of them. You might be able to just make out some of the starter homes except for the fact that I haven't even gotten started building them yet.

However I created another apartment.

Oh and by the way, this four bedroom apartment will be cheep enough for a family of five that is just starting out to be able to afford. And guess what, even in the saved game file I will release to go along with the map, when you first start playing no one will live there. Want to have a medium large family living in the city and don't have a lot of cash, this maybe the place for you. Look at it, its an apartment with four full fledged bedrooms and two bathrooms, for under $19,000, even fully furnished! Believe me, I had some trouble pulling that off, but it ended up being so cheep eventually that I had to slightly raise the price for the lot, for things to even out.

I haven't even begun work on the starter houses yet, but I've already started working on the ranch houses! In the saved game file, there will be families living in some of these, and each of them will have one horse each.

Here's an up close view of two the unfinished ranch houses.
Note: despite the fact that those barns look big, they're really only for two horses. I didn't have that much room on these 30 by 40 lots. There wasn't enough room for more than two stables in each of those barns. However, if you really want to play with a household with more than two horses, there are a couple of empty 40 by 40 lots that should be suitable and are also in an area with a nice country feel.

That's it for now, but another update should be on the way soon. Please give me your honest opinions on Norton so far. Let me know if there's anything you really like or you think I could improve.

Update 3/02/12: New Screen Shots/Starter Houses And More

I have some new screen shots of some the things I've been working on, including some screen shots of the outside of some of the starter houses that will be included in the town. Let's get started!

By the way, these pictures were taken inside Create A World's "edit in game mode" so you won't see any sims, and you may see a few things that I didn't really want to show off. However, I still think theses are some pretty good screenshots.

There are going to be two sets of starter houses in the city of Norton, not counting that light house by the beach. First there will be four on 20 by 30 lots, and than there will be about a dozen on 20 by 20, for smaller households.
These are what the ones on the 20 by 30 lots will look like, at least from the outside.

Here's a closer look at one of them. I don't want to show the inside yet, becouse its not finish, but each of these house will have at least 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I might consider redesigning half of them so that they will have 4 bedrooms for larger families. The ones up higher on 20 by 20 lots will have 1 to 2 bedrooms.

I told you awhile back that I would show off Jason Blue's Department Store (The other consignment store.)

Here are some screenshots of the inside. Looks pretty fancy doesn't it?

Oh and its a two story department store! Fancy! I wonder if there's anything beyond the second floor. You'll have to play with Norton to find out.

This is first screenshots of the inside of one of Norton's famous landmark tombs.

Update 3/12/12: More Pictures, More Details - Please Comment!

Hello, Its time again for another update. Are you excited? I'm excited!

Again these pictures were taken inside Create A World instead of the regular game, because I didn't think I had finished enough to do another play testing session.

The map is progressing nicely. I added a few more dirt paths as well as another empty "reserved for your" use lot. Its connected to two dirt sidewalks on both ends and painted to look like the sidewalk passes through the lot. Its in between these houses. The new lot ought to be of use to anyone customizing the map, since most of the commercial lots will be locked to prevent people from breaking the hidden tombs. Also, I got started on the one and two bedroom starter homes, you should be able to see them off in the distance.

Here's a closer look at them. The one bedroom starter homes are one story and the two bedroom ones are two stories. I didn't finish designing the insides, but the outsides are Finished, unless you think I should do some more to differentiate them from the outside?

Here's a picture of Summer Getaway, the local campground. You could spend the night here with all those tents. I might have made it a base camp, but other sims don't seem to travel to them on the home map, so I made it a large park instead.

Its pretty in a creepy sort of way.

It looks especially creepy at night. I wonder if there's something going on here, something bad.

(by the way, I have to thank Aynat134 for making those tents available without having to use a mod, in addition to the apartment mailbox and food truck)
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/369917.page

Speaking of creepy, I got started on the house where Norton's vampires will live. These will be country western style vampires. They've lived in the town since the days when it was a mining town in the Sim West. The evil blood suckers will even have a steed that they will ride into town from time to time, called black death! Beware. I suspect the horse is also undead.

Believe it or not, this barn is actually a dance club!

Don't believe me? lets look inside.

Check out the bar

There's also going to be a small video arcade upstairs. I might also add a mechanical bull if I decide to update this map later for Showtime, after I'm done with the Showtime free version. It would go great in here.

More is yet to come this map still isn't finished. I've finished most of the community lots, but I've got to finish all the houses and the tombs. In addition I need to work on the cemetery and vampire lounge. Plus I think I should improve the terrain painting a bit. Maybe may the mountains look a bit better.

What do you think so far? Do you have any constructive criticisms?

Update 3/20/12 Vampire Lounge, Graveyard and Mine

Now things are getting really creepy. I've begun work on the cemetery, and my vampire lounge. I also added an abandoned mine (scenery object, not part of a lot). Oh what evil forces lurk withing these places?

Here's a picture of Norton's cemetery. The building right in front of it, that looks kind of like a house, is the cities vampire lounge. I tend to put them near my graveyards.

As you can see there will be a lot of stuff to collect, if your brave human sims decide to visit the cemetery. there will be ghosts here if you play with the saved game file I'm going to include with Norton. I haven't added the tomb stones yet. I'm not sure if I should add a couple extra ones, to make it look more like a cemetery, or just the ones for the cemetery ghosts. In addition to frame rate, I am a bit worried about where players will put their sims after the poor creatures pass away, especially if they're using my town for a legacy challenge. Than again with all the extra empty lots Norton will have, they could just build another cemetery.

Speaking of death. I've also begun work on the Vampire Lounge. I'm calling it the Blood Bank. I may change the name later. This ought to be an excellent place for your undead blood drinkers to hang out.

Norton at one point was supposed to be a mining town, so I added an abandoned mine. Its hard to see in this picture, but that nearby community lot is supposed to be empty. I thought about putting a tomb there, but I thought I should make it one of my "reserved for your use lots." Although I think that would be a nice place for a tomb, the town has enough of them already.

Here's what the area looks like up close. The abandoned mine is kind of hard to see, maybe I'll come back later and take a picture of the area in the day time. But I think you should still be able to make it out. It might also have been better if I took the picture from another angle since the mine is behind a small tree. Anyway, when you guys start customizing the town, do you have any idea what you might put here? Showtime is the one Expansion pack out now that Norton doesn't use, so maybe you could put one of your performance venues here? Than again, maybe it could be something else entirely.

Okay, so what do you think of this stuff? How's the cemetery and vampire lounge coming along? What do you think you'll put in that empty lot next to the abandoned mine?

Update 4/9/12 The Starter Houses

Time for another update. Sorry its a little late guys!

As you would guess by the title of the update, this one will focus on the starter house. Although we will also mention a few other things.

First off, as mentioned earlier, the starter homes come in one and two story varieties. The one we are about to show off first, is located near the newly completed junkyard.

Here's a picture of the inside of one of the one story starter homes. As you can see it only has one bedroom. The one and two bedroom starter houses are called Lil Logs, and they're in the style of a small log cabin. I might have added a fire place, but there wasn't that much room and they are expensive. There are also 3 bedroom starter house in Norton, on a lower elevation as I mentioned earlier, but they are a different style. Note: also as I mentioned earlier these sims will not come with the saved game file that I will make for the map. The sims in these pictures right now, are there for play testing purposes only.

The two story Lil Logs are very similar to the one story Lil Logs, but they have two bedrooms.

As you can see based on this picture, inside they are very similar to their one story counter parts as well.

The two story Lil Logs have a another bedroom on the second floor, but only one bathroom for the entire house. You could easily replace that small bed with a bunk bed, if you want to have more than three sims living in one of these, and not have to radically redesign the house. However, If you do that, I recommend that you add second bathroom on the top floor, as soon as you can afford it.

I decided it might be a good idea for me to show off the vampire lounge in more detail. So this is what the outside looks like in broad daylight, not the time when you'd expect to come across blood drinkers. Right now, I'm calling the place, "The Blood Bank." Its a working title, let me know if you come up with a what you think would be a better name for my vampire lounge.

This is what the first floor with the bar, table, fire place, musical instruments and a kitchen. As you can see by the stairs, even if you didn't see the outside of the "Blood Bank" it clearly has a second story as well as a basement that you will be able to gain access too, if you are able to get past the bouncer and enter the vip area. I wonder if there are any secrets places to explore. If this looks kind of like it might be someone's home, its supposed to.

Norton's vampire lounge is supposed to be a creepy mansion. Here's a shot of one of the bedrooms from the inside. This is the master bedroom by the way. There maybe some of special coffin beds for vampires on the property, but not in this room.

That's it for now, but more should be coming fairly soon. I hope to hear back from you guys on what you think of Norton so far. Its more than half way finished, and I now have most of the spawners in place. I might be finished with it by now, if it weren't the tombs. Next time, I'll show off the Ranch houses and the three bedroom, two bathroom starter houses!

Update 5/4/12 Finished the Ranch Houses

I just finished working on the Ranch houses. The Sims who live in these homes will all have horses (more accurately one horse) If you want to live in Norton have have horses, two of these country style homes on the range will be available when you first start out, but they won't come cheep, they are not starter homes. However there will also two empty 40 by 30 lots where you can build your own country homes complete with barns and stables for your horse, in addition to some empty 40 by 40 residential lots, if you want more sims or more horses.

As you can see, the most noticeable difference from the outside is that these homes are now surrounded by fences, but that is only the tip of the pile of hay.

Lets take a closer look at one of these homes, this is one of the two that will start out empty when you first start playing with the Saved game file I'm Making

In addition to the barn with the stables for the horse, there's a nice house for your sims to live in. This is a picture of the living room area.

This is your first picture of the kitchen. This house has the Kitchen and the dining area in the same room to save space. It also happened to look better when I did it this way, at least in this instance.

Here's your first glimpse of the master bedroom. Its downstairs near the front of the house. It has its own bathroom and there are two other bathrooms on the lot. In addition the house has two additional bedrooms on the second floor.

This is the second floor. I placed the washer and drier in this hallway area. It maybe somewhat unusual to have the laundry upstairs but I thought it looked better here.

There's also a wine cellar and nectar machine in the basement for those who like to make their own nectar. In fact there's going to be one in the basement of the ranch houses, excluding Darkness Ranch where my vampires are going to live.

What do you think? I'm sorry I won't be able to update as often as I used to, now that I'm working, but I'm almost finished. Once I finish the last of the houses, the only things I have left to do is the Horse Ranch and one or maybe two more tombs, in addition to a few final touches such as adding the right street lights and perhaps improving the terrain painting. It should be beta testing time by the end of the month, if not, early next month.

Feel free to leave your comments and feedback.

Update 6/3/12 New Screen shots, public Beta Coming Soon

Okay, Final another update. Sorry it took me so long, but Norton (the map at least) is almost ready for the public beta testing to begin. It shouldn't be too much longer now, all I have to do is finish beta testing the map myself one more time, add the street addresses, make a other few minor but important changes, and create the households for the saved game file. I can't make any promises since I'm running into some unavoidable delays, however, It really shouldn't be that much longer now. Here are some updated pictures of what Norton looks like now. The final version of the map shouldn't look too different. This will give you an idea as to what the final product, minus the Sims should look like. I'm not going to bother with any more commentary for now, since I really want to focus on finishing this thing, however, I don't think it will be necessary.

Well, what do you think? Would you like to live here?

Okay, I decided to add a few more pictures on my second post, and I numbered them to make things easier. Is anyone interested in guessing what any of those buildings are going to be when finished?

There are mountains, but there is a lot of flat land as well, but its at different elevations. The mansions, beach houses and the downtown urban area are going to be on the lowest ground, just above sea level. Most of the reserved for your use lots, are also located there, including some empty 50 by 40 residential lots. Up higher on the second level will be the upper middle class suburbs, than on the third level, will be some additional work places along with the ranches with with stables for horses, and on the fourth level, highest up on the mountain will be the starter homes.

I'm glad you like it so far. I hope you like the finished product.

Tl8au,

Its the largest map size, but a large portion of the map around the northern and western edges of the map is painted with camera non routing paint to hide the ocean on those sides of the map, because its not supposed to be an Island. So I have less land to work with than you might think. Still this might make it run better on machines a bit slower than mine. I hope you are able to play with it.

There's also going to be a saved game file, that will be downloaded separately, if you would like the world to be prepopulated with sims and some pets when you first start out.

BobbleBean,

Thanks! I'm glad that you both like it. I hope the final product lives up to your expectations, especially the saved game file that I'm going to make to go along with it.

Update 2/24/12

Just to let you know, I'm doing some more play testing and fixing the problems with the town. A new full fledged update should be coming soon complete with pictures. I just wanted to let you guys know that so far I'm not running into any problems that I'm unable to solve on my own, which is a good thing. Unfortunately I won't be able to finish the map before Showtime is released as I originally intended. However, both Norton and the saved game file that will go along with it, should be playable without it installed. I may or may not create a second updated version of the map and the saved game file specifically for people who have showtime. If I decided not to, I would really like to see how you guys will be updating Norton for Showtime after it is released, as well as customizing the map in general.

Another update and more pictures should be coming soon, I just wanted to let you guys know that Norton is not dead. However, I was really busy with other things, so I couldn't attend to this for awhile.
