Here is a modern touch that i have seen done before. And how you do it.

BUILD 3 STAIRS:

DELETE STAIRS LEVEL BASE (I DO A 3 X 3 SPOT):

THEN BUILD 6 STAIRS:

DELETE STAIRS LEVEL BASE (I DO A 3 X 3 SPOT):

BUILD TWO 4 STORY TALL TOWERS AND A 4 STORY BUILDING (YOUR HOUSE)

*****CONSTRAINFLOORELEVATION FALSE********

(THE FLOORS ARE COLORED FOR EASE OF EXPLANATION)

<THREE STAIR TOWER> LEVEL RED FLOOR (DO NOT LEVEL OTHER TOWER):

<SIX STAIR TOWER> LEVEL BLUE FLOOR (AGAIN DO NOT LEVEL OTHER TOWER):

PAINT AND DECORATE!

Cool. This reminds me of the link deathsoldier posted about multi-level staircases. It also used the "tower" concept to execute the constrainfloors technique. I can't find it, of course, because I can't figure out the search function on the new forums. It never brings up what I'm looking for. Like it doesn't exist...It was good, too. Would like to add it here.

Just look at any of my modern home builds the Sharp House is a good example of what Multi Split levels can do for a 1 story home.

This doesn't apply for modern only.
It's what I've done with my spanish mansion for getting a higher first floor and to get the look correct with the original.
