This thread isn't to talk about the sunshine and lollipops version of Sims. It's not for the players who strive to full fill lifetime wishes and work their way to mansions and have 100's of babies.
This thread is for those of us that play in alternate ways and what we want from EA.
Do you play homeless Sims that have to sleep in the park?
Do you want zombies to ravage your town?
Do you play evil insane Sims that love to cause havoc?
Do you love the drama of cheating spouses?
Do legacies make you want to bang your head on the desk out of boredom?
Are you tired of new, shiny luxury items for your Sims?
Well....you get the idea, come chat and add your ideas and wishes.
I'm hoping for an SP or store content called Modern Slum Living.
What do you want?

I want the game to function better. The way I play is based on the careers. When each EP comes out I see what careers have come with it. I then think about the type of people who would be attracted to that career or profession and build Sims around them. This includes the country they come from, the clothes they wear etc. I then start them at the beginning and build their house up. All the furniture and house design is also based on the profession. As they get better they move to a bigger house and the starter house I built with them is then available for the next Sim with that profession. I know this is all really pedantic but I love this level of gameplay. The only problem is the game is buggy so after a certain point I have to move them to another town. Luckily Sereniticat2 convinced me to try out Twallan's mods so I don't have overbloated save files so I've started from scratch in Riverview with a couple of solo policeman. I like to try to do things like each school building has a uniform, etc. It's fun this way for me....when it works. Edit: I would kill for your Modern Slum Living idea!

That's an interesting way to play. Right now I have an evil, genius inventor who delights going around town blowing up everything he can. His house is full of Steam punk items.
Thanks for the yea vote on a Slum pack. My homeless Sims need things too. They have no need for a shiny espresso machine.

I love the modern slum living idea. They would probably have to call it something else though, whatever the correct euphemism would be. It should be an EP. Definitely the Katy Perry backlash!
If your neighborhood gets corrupted you should check out this thread. It's about how too many spawners can corrupt a neighborhood even with no CC and just by placing and rotating EA lots and exchange lots :

I play like a mix of SimCity and TS3. I start a town from scratch, no houses or buildings. My Sims start by farming and selling the food to nearby towns (in my imagination). As they earn money, I build more houses so more Sims can move into town. As the population expands, I allow certain community lots like grocery store. When Sims start having kids, I build a school. Once the town is big enough, I build city hall and the founder becomes the mayor. After that, it is the governments job to build parks and recreational areas, water facility, public service buildings, orphanage, etc. Regular citizens can build the rest of the community lots, but everything must be owned by someone in the neighborhood or I cannot build it. I switch families a lot and make sure that there is no cheating money-wise. I have low income Sims steal to make ends meet and i will evict them if they run out of money. Some live in parks or campgrounds.
My game play style is pretty unique. I wish we had more options for how to manage money. I would love a banking system. I really want my Sims to be able to own more than 1 house and rent one of them out. I'd also like a college or something similar. Right now, I just pretend certain Sims go to college (which is really just weeks of skill building at the library) and then certain jobs open up to them. I also don't let my Sims go above certain levels in careers. Not everyone can be a CEO, ya know.

I have a few towns that I've created in CAW that have no buildings. I've downloaded a few from My Sims Realty that I liked and bulldozed the lots if they were there. It can be tedious, but I love having full control. My game is heavily modded, though. I don't think I could do all that I do without mods.
ETA - I put my insane Sims in an asylum. Those wackos!
Another thing I do is only hit random for traits. Although I think evil and insane come up way too often.

I really like making different zones in towns. I'm making over Hidden Springs at the moment, making the downtown area into a commercial zone updated for all the expansions. Near that will be a bunch of starter middle class townhomes and maybe a high rise or two. McMansions are going up just past that, with mansions in the more isolated hills. The forested, dirt road area will have the junkyard, criminal stuff, grungy little dive bars, and a bunch of shacks and trailer homes. Slum life stuff would be perfect for the forested area. More stuff like Loud, Fast, Clash! I love the TV on milk crates and the patched up sofa. It's details like that that you can't just add in with one of the torn fabric patterns. I'd also like a cheap bed with no headboard or footboard - just a mattress on a basic frame on wheels, like every bed I had growing up. Available in single and double. It was a major upgrade for my parents when they could finally afford a headboard and it looked kind of like the lowest end double bed the game has available. So, yeah, poor sim living, please!

I do the same thing with zoning. I like for my city to make sense and not just be spread out anywhere.

I don't know about THOSE things, but sometimes I like to kill off my sim family, each in a different way.

I would just like to play my sims 3 game.
With all the bugs, it makes it practically impossible.
Mostly it just gives me migraines trying to get things to work, even if I manage to get into the game to begin with.

Phoebesmom601, while this is not a biggy, I started a thread called "Tired of the many bugs in TR3 and feeling ignored?". Then I come on this forum today to see this thread called "Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat".
While my thread is about so many things that have been plaguing this game since the release of 'Vanilla' (the core game that came out in 2009), yours, according to the subject matter in the first post, seems about alternative ways to play the game.
In my thread, I (and many other Simmers) advocate very hard for EA to make changes regarding the likes of fixing the bugs, listening to what people want to change overall, consumer service, actively moderating that is badly needed on this forum, and so much more. In other word, the thread I authored is about people saying very much how disapointd they are at EA for not taking care of the The Sims 3 and doing pretty much what they want instead (which seems to revolve around making lots of profit while their consumer base is taking the proverbial back seat). That thread (mine), has been going very strong for quite some time.
So I'm asking you if you'd be willing to consider making a change to the title of your thread to better reflect what it is that you (and other Simmers) wish for. I won't even presume to suggest a title for you! This is a thread you authored and what you're asking for in it is quite legitimate and very much deserves the attention of Simmers as you suggest excellent ideas. So this request is nothing againsts your tread.
It's just that I feel the titles may be overstepping one-another. And by the way, I think it was purely coincidential as you may not have seen my thread (or its title) before.
I hope you understand,
My very best regards Phobesmom601,
Marz
EDIT: added something for clarity.

I choose to play The Sims 3 on a Windows 7 partition (BootCamp) on an iMac 27 inch, Intel Quad Core i5, 2.66MH, 8Gb Memory with a ATI Radeon HD 4850.

I always start my sims on a 10 x 10 plot then take all their money away. This makes its so much harder for them to survive BUT not hard enough.
I would like the option not to have to buy any plot to play the game. All gyms, local swimming pools, launderettes are free but should have a charge to use as in real life. i would like the option to be able to search bins for food/salvage. Also like the option to repair junk to reuse. (This would also be good for the eco trait). The only thing that should be free are the libraries
I would like many more challenges for the sims to face in order to gradually build their life and wealth. The game is far too easy to gain real wealth, therefore becomes boring (for me at least). If it was possible to have a button for easy, medium or hard play that would be good, but I don't know how feasable that would be.
