I've realized Cider and MAC don't mix. Just installed Showtime, trying to enjoy it and keep crashing to desktop. Sick of this crap. Anyone hear from EA support about this, can't find a single fix other than, oh yeah, sorry.

I have more than enough juice to run this game.

iMac 27"
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3
Storage: 716.68GB free out of 999.35GB

YEAH. It's a BEAST. I SHOULD NOT BE CRASHING FOLKS! EVER! EVER! EVER! FIX CIDER!!!!

And here's the tech have no clue error box:

I have been having the exact same issue! I have been trying to fix it for over a week now, talking to multiple members of EA's support staff. None of them have a valid solution. I've tried everything. They need to come out with a fix soon! I've been paying one of my games for 3 years, and I do not want to have to stop now!

Problems I have been having since Pets.

With the internet off.

1. Freezing particularly in CAS. The longer you spend in CAS the more likely it will freeze. Can only visit CAS to change hair or clothes a few times per gaming session or it will freeze. Using “testingcheatsenabled true” seems to make the freezing worse.

2. Crashing to desktop when saving. I have tried to copy my sim families to a new saved game on a few occasions. When I go to save it crashes to desktop. Sometimes it will save once and then I play for a while and try to save it will crash. Have noticed that the file size is large between 200 and 300MB. So it might be the size of the file. I was using Riverview and had deleted five townie households and moved in five of my own Sim families. After this I tried only putting back three households still crashed. So I removed a lot of the store and premium content from my two inactive households. While keeping it in my active household and so far it hasn’t crashed and the file size is a bit under 200 MB. Whether it will start to crash when the file becomes larger?
I am not sure if this is a computer memory thing or not but would be like to know. I really love getting and using EP, SP and store content. It adds so much to my game but if it makes your game files so big that you have issues playing why would you. I am already worried if I change too much in my games it will make my save unplayable.

3. Exception raised error then crashing. I have been getting this occasionally for a while.

4. Changing pets in CAS. When I go into CAS to change features of a pet they always turn into creepy looking mutants and often the game will freeze. I don’t know if this is a graphics card issue.

With the internet on and logged in.

1. Error 12. I had never had it before but playing logged in I kept getting it.
2. Freezing particularly in CAS but also during gameplay.
3. Game moved very slowly and was quite sluggish.

It was rare for me to have to quit a game when playing logged in as it usually had some problem before that. I have never tried to simport because my game was having to many issues when I logged in.
I don’t use CC or mods.

Edited Apple crash report.

Edited Sims 3 crash report.

the game crashes yes and it seems it affects a ton of simmers. i do not have showtime it happens to me and i do not have showtime....that is why i suggest people wait for ea to fix and make patches before running out and buying a new expansion pack....showtime should have been with late night and the crashing is the reason i have not gotten the showtime expansion. when i get the crash problem fixed then possibly

I am so sick of the game crashing on my mac I have purchased every game expect one and once I added showtime it started to crash...with the same error codes...I refuse to buy anymore unless they fix it..I spend to much to have this issue that they (EA) could care less about...

I tested Showtime with only the basegame installed, and it crashed every hour or so. More often if I was on-line and hosting somebody's Sim.

When I did the same thing after Pets was new, I couldn't even play 15 minutes before crashing, but now the basegame plus Pets does run for an hour.

Strangely enough, having all the EPs and SPs and some store content installed now didn't make the crashing worse - it's still every hour or so.
But the point is, it shouldn't be crashing at all. My Mac is older, but it's a good machine:

Processor 3.06 ghZ Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 - 512 MB
Storage: 586.06 GB available out of 999.86 GB

So while it's an older machine, and 'only' a Core 2 Duo, I don't think it should be crashing like this.

Just adding my voice to having this issue as well.

Random crashing to the desktop.

Various issues in CAS; corrupted icons then crash, blacked out sims or animals, then crash, whiteout sims, then crash, black faces, then crash.

Crashing to the desktop while saving.

'Do you want to debug' message, then crash.

Bad access at 0000000000000f

Error 12

Blah blah blah blah.....
And on and on it goes.

Have tried everything.
So frustrated and infuriated.
Have stopped trying to play at all now for about six weeks, its just too aggravating.
Hundreds of pounds wasted.

I do think that Cider is to blame, it is so old now, must be 5/6 years and they probably have not changed it at all to keep up with everything else so its hardly surprising that it can't cope with newer macs and it did a really bad job when it was new and current.

Shameful!!

All Eps and most stuff packs.

I understand your frustration, but you're ranting at the wrong people here. Nobody here can fix your game, the most we can do is give you hints that *may or may not* help you.
But for that, we need to know what type of crash you are having, what the crash message is, what kind of computer you have, etc. That's why Bluebell Flora is asking people to post data to the thread she created.

EA will not help us with these issues, but if we can compile enough information to give them at least some pointers as to in which direction they should be looking, maybe they can come up with a fix.

This doesn't help any of us, but i'm also having the same problem. I don't have showtime, but I think my crashing started with the Pets expansion pack. I can play for about half an hour before it tells me that my game has 'unexpecdedly closed.' I'm getting sick of replaying the same game! For some reason though, if I save the game every 12 sim hours or so, it seems to go longer without crashing. It is annoying a pain-staking, but it is somewhat effective.
