Ok, I'll keep it short. I made a family, for the express purpose of having the husband end the marriage and move to next door, and get married to Sherman Bagley. The marriage ended because of his gender preference. That was irrelevant anyway... So I use the moviemaker cheat to shift + right click on a sim from each household, which quickly switches me back and forth between my family. But now, my teen wants to sleep over at her father's, but the option to stay won't come up. She got caught by police, so I reset her to cancel that action. She's just eaten, and is now sleeping at her father's. He hasn't kicked her out yet, but he's going to bed. Since they're family, does she not need permission to ask? And if this is the case, why is she being caught after curfew?

Who asked? Did you get the girl to ask to stay over or the Dad? I've never had divorce or family break-ups so I don't know

The idea was to send the teen and toddlers over to the dad's house every weekend. On Monday after school, I sent the teen over. The option for her to ask didn't come up. I swapped to the dad's household and the option for him to ask didn't come up either

I lowered the relationship bar, let's see if starting from acquaintances helps... Edit; doesn't help >

It may not work because of the age difference. And the toddler wouldn't work because there's no way for the father to ask the child to stay the night, as that isn't an option for toddlers.
The only solution to this would be to have him move back in and then take a 60X60 lot and build double houses that look like they are next door neighbors. I've seen people do that if they want like a trailer park or the grandparents next door or whatever.

She's a teen, he's a YA...
And I was hoping to avoid having to do that I mean, the wife, teen, two toddlers, him and his hubsand... sure is a lot to handle.. and I was planning on having the woman remarry, and have another kid, and have the two guys adopt.
That's 9 people...not possible

Then it sounds like you'll just have to stick to day visits.

I don't think teens are allowed to "stay over" at anyone's house. Yes, he's her father, but as far as I know, teens can't spend the night anywhere but their own house. That might be why you're not getting that option.

I've had teens stay the night at my house before. Never tried to get my teens to stay with someone else, though.
Another thing, it has to be past a certain time before the option will come up.

Woah! So you can switch to a whole new household without going in to "edit town" or do you just change who is part of your active family???
Or do you just change who is in your active household. Please explain, lol.
