No, they aren't worth it with the current expansion packs. However, they magic with this set will increase and become major objects with the release o fSuper Natural.

It really depends on how you play your game. For me, they were totally worth it - of course, I bought the whole set, so I got the premium items alongside the clothing and stuff. I like the cauldron because you can conjure rare items as well as use it to make potions. It does cost your Sims energy to use it, so be careful!
As for the crystal ball, it adds some much-needed uncertainly and challenge to your sims' lives. Bad fortunes can result in loss of friendships, loss of funds, and general bad luck. Good fortunes can attract the opposite - good luck! Plus your Sim can tell other Sims' fortunes.
Supposedly some additional game play is coming to these items in Supernatural, so they may be even more worthwhile to have.
On the other hand, Supernatural may also include similar objects, so you may want to look into that before you spend money.
Good luck with your decision!

There isn't anything in Supernatural like these objects. In fact, they will only get better with the new EP!

Well, speaking just for myself, the Voodoo Doll is the most fun and the item my sims use more than any other in the set.

However, when I get Supernatural, I intend to have a sim in the Fortune Teller career, which will make the crystal ball all kinds of fun.

The Voodoo Doll is one of my favorite objects for tormenting Sims. It's the same joy I get from removing a pool ladder, only less lethal (and repeatable.) When the next EP comes out, the new "Transform" interaction is going to take griefing Fairies and Werewolves to a Supernatural level.

I cannot comment on the quality of the objects. I'm sure that they are just peachy if you like magic in your game (I do not, though Reni doesn't mind it, as an example). From a value standpoint, however, I cannot fathom how $4-to-$6, depending upon bundles and whatnot, for a single item, let alone $8-to-$12 for two, can be viewed as 'worth it'. It isn't. It never will be. It's a luxury to end all luxuries.

The trick isn't whether the value is sound. You can buy full games on sale for the cost of those two individual items, books, decent meals and so forth. It's whether you are willing to overlook that lack of value where these items are concerned, as most of us face a scenario at some point, regularly, where we recognize that a purchase may not be wise, perhaps even borderline stupid, but we just want to have a bit of fun. I may be mistaking the tone in your post; but it suggests to me that you are already of the mindset that it may be a lack of value that you cannot overlook, and such thoughts tend to be extremely difficult to shake. I would suggest that, unless the items blow you away, you will come out disappointed that you spent as many points as you did for what you will end up getting; and so you may be better off saving those points for something else.

I bought the whole set and don't really use any of it. I have been using the voodoo doll just recently for my Gold Digger to curse her hubby in hopes of encouraging an accident but that's it.

I did use it alot for a gypsy family when I first got it though and that was kind of fun. I'll probably use them more once SN comes out.

I agree with Reni--if you're talking about Value, then yes: Premium Content is ridiculously overpriced--I don't care how nifty the item is--it's too expensive for 1 or 2 items. Wait for it to go on sale/a DD, or save up a few more hundred SP to get the whole Set--or save money to get the Supernatural EP, which I am sure is going to be AWESOME!!

But are the Magic items fun? Oh yeah--I really like them! I like anything that adds magic to the game! I just wish we could do MORE with them, for the amont that they cost I was expecting MORE, like:
-Cauldron: bottle the potions in the cauldron; make our OWN potion combinations; have multiple magicians use it at the same time; cook with it
-Crystal Ball: Charge sims/customers for fortunes told--kind of like Playing for Tips
-Book o Spells: enchant any object to have a spell/curse put on it (mostly for pranking--muwah ha ha :twisted

I haven't use the voodoo doll yet.

I was extremely lucky to be gifted the magic set by an extremely generous simmer and I have to say that I really enjoy all the objects. I have a gypsy/witchy sim who lives in the swamps of Twinbrook and she keeps the sims in town on edge with her spells.

My favorite is the voodoo doll too and it sounds like it is going to get even better with the EP.

I know...

I just get mad at EA--like with the Cowplant. Like...can't you do MORE with this stuff!? I use mods to make my EA stuff better. I wish we had more interactions to play with--after a few tries it starts to get Very repetitive, so I use them nowadays mostly for decor than actual gameplay.

I'm saving the voodoo doll for later so I don't get burned out/too bored too quickly.

I don't own the crystal ball so I can't comment on that. I own the spell book, cauldron and voodoo doll. I will say as well, that value for money very much depends on perspective/gameplay/style/ect. There are a lot of varying things that can change opinions. They are fairly expensive for each item, but for me, personally, they were worth it and will become even moreso when Supernatural (yay I have it pre-ordered) comes out.

Spell Book:
Personally I find the spell book kind of boring after a while. It's gorgeous décor for sure, especially in the homes of my witchy sims (Charmed fans anyone? I downloaded the manor house and have a legacy family living in it so I can have the aforementioned PC items in their attic ) and I do use it occasionally.

Cauldron:
The cauldron I use FAR more often; it can conjure random rare items and gems and insects and everything. It's pretty useful to me, because I love decorating sims' homes with display cases full of rare stuff (coupled with WA I can have a blast with that; antiques, relics, ect).

Voodoo Doll:
The voodoo doll is an item that I haven't used that much yet; the only thing I did with it was use it on a spouse to max their moods (the only nice option for the doll but I understand it's not intended to be nice usually lol). I have yet to experiment with it on sims my sim doesn't like but I assume that will be fun.

Yeah...
The only problem with it as decor is that it's freaking EXPENSIVE in-game! You're adding a good 50-100,000 more to whatever lot you put it on--that annoys the heck out of me. I'm still looking for a mod to make it cheaper in-game.

I think you just solved my problem for me!
I've been trying to get some will o wisps and I just CANNOT get my hands on one for my wizard's castle--simweeks are just going by and the Graveyard in Bridgeport's just not spitting out any butterflies!

I'm breaking out the cauldeon! Crunch time!

Thanks every one for your input!! I have pre ordered the supernatural Ep. i do like magic items and use mods in my game. I do have the voodoo doll but i want the rest. Its just hard for me to spend the points on 1 item when 600 pts could get me so many other things! but if the crystal ball and cauldron will have more interactions with super natural then i think i will have to bite the bullet and get them. i am very excited for the new ep.
