We have been made aware of an issue you may encounter while trying to save your game after installing The Sims 3 World Adventures or updating your game. The Sims 3 World Adventures and the Game Update have changed the way your save files are created, which can lead to an error during your gameplay when you save your game. If you encounter an error that says “Error Code 16,” please use “Save As” to save your game instead. This will allow you to create a new save file and circumvent this error.

If you are beginning an entirely new game or starting in a new neighborhood, you will NOT encounter this issue.

We are working to address this and will update you as soon as possible.

I keep getting an 'error upon startup, see Log for details' My game was working fine until I installed WA. Now it won't let me play Sims 3 at all. It comes up with a blue screen (that says the above error message) and then automatically closes the program. HELP!

I'm having the same problem here. I wonder how we're going to be fixed seeing as we can't even access the game launcher...Is there a way to uninstall the new patch?

I am not really good with computers or the web. In fact this is my first post. If I err in etiquette please excuse me. I am looking for help.

I can not download the patch. I get the pop up that offers update now but when I click it I get booted back to my desktop. The update won't download.

Any suggestions? I would appreciate your assistance.

Heya, I installed WA and started getting the Error Code 16, so I uninstalled both Sims3 and WA and reinstalled them fresh with no old saves and only Riverview for extra content. I can save now if I do the Save As and rename the file, but I can't go travelling to other countries. For some reason, when I come back from the countries, I sometimes get the Error 16 again.

Also, even though I'm on a freshly installed copy with new towns and characters, I can't save using the regular option. If I try, I get Error 16.

I put the game on my laptop (which is Vista), and I have no problems at all there. This computer is running Windows 7... not sure if it makes a difference? Hoping it can be fixed soon 'cause I really don't like playing it on the laptop..

Thanks for any help you can come up with to fix it!

My thinking is the patch that automatically downloaded tonight is if have World Adventures based on the "missing Expansion Pack" message and the new folder that has a file marked TRAVELdb.package.

Thanks EA for sending us a patch meant only for those with World Adventures before most of us could even legally purchase it anyway.

Actually -- I don't think the patch was meant for those with WA either. I have WA, and after I get an Error 16 message and try reloading the game, it keeps telling me it can't load the game because an expansion pack was removed. I'm fairly certain there are gremlins inside my computer that keep removing the expansion pack when my back is turned...

How delightfully frustrating. Id been eagerly anticipating this game, I bought it today, installed it, and everything was going beautifully. I visited china for 3 days, and then my vacation ended, sending my sim home instantly.

I get home, toy around with some of the new furniture pieces, la-de-dah... and then I go to save, and all hell breaks loose.

I cant save, a delightful error code 16... and no no.. I cannot SAVE AS... because after exiting the game, without saving. I come back to it to discover sunset valley is completley gone.

I click it anyway.

I end up in China, only my sim is not there. There is nothing to control. I cannot send my sim home to SAVE AS because there is no sim, and there is no sunset valley anymore. I can however scroll around and take in the scenery of china... I cant do anything else. Lovely!

Oddly enough, when I go to the main menu to edit my town, I can edit China, I can move sims in to china yet have no way back to sunset valley. Yet, I can edit sunset valley when I go to edit my hometown.

The glitch is just bizzare, and frustrating. I know my sunset valley is there.. somewhere lost... but I have no way to access it.

Riverview works without an issue...Yet I will not be takin my sims on vacation, because likely the error code 16 will occur again. Telling those that uninstalled, and reinstalled the game will resolve the issue permanatley is insulting, considering many of them have been working on their towns/game since its release in June.

Sunset Valley was my main town, the one I played most. For the glitch to effect that one town, just sucks.

Seriously, EA owes us all a big appology, and an immediate fix. I feel like they used us all for beta guinea pigs, and no... the $10 bonus bucks added to the expansion sucks, especially if its our 'unknown beta testers reward for putting up with the glitches'

Was this game even tested before its release? Seriously?! If so, you need a whole new crew of beta testers.

After installing the patch, my game was so laggy and jerky. Impossible to play, so I closed it for a couple of hours. Didn't see any of the new interactions for the kids.

Opened the game and every lot in Riverview was water. All the townies were looking for homes and the family I was playing didn't have a home and the father left the lot to go to an empty lot for the toliet. The toddler was up in the air over the water lot and the mom was under water (basement) trying to update an invisible computer.

I was laughing so hard that I started crying. Then I did cry. So I uninstalled, then installed the game and went back to 1.4 update. I have never had such a hard time to update and play a game in my life. Now I know EA was lying about the updates offering new features for everyone. I think this was just a ploy to get us to buy the new EP. No Thanks.

Yeah, I've been having major problems after installing the new updates. I had to quite without saving, and it said there was a problem while saving, so I just quit without saving. I tried to play today, but then it said my family could not be found, and that I may not have the correct expansion pack or something like that. So now I cannot access my family, and I have a feeling the only way I can play is if I get and install the WA expansion pack =(. Any ideas?

Okay so I played the game all day and got my main sim to rank 3 visa with shang simla...WOOT! Well the i realise that it is time for NCIS...WOOT #2. So i go to save and quit, not so woot. I get save error #13 and the game crashes. I walk away hoping that it did save. So I come back after and start the game up and it loads fine. Then I see it. On the menu screen where my family should be is an out lined pic. I click it and it takes me to shang simla where there are no family members at all. Anyone have this problem yet?

Aww...I'm sending you the biggest tightest hug that I can send via internet!!! I think it's awful how EA got it's pockets full with just first day sales yet soooooo many people can't play it nor their regular sims base game!! I've been on Facebook reading about this because I couldn't even access this site forums!

I am soooo glad I did not allow the update!! I wanted to come here and see if anyone was having any issues with the new update. Thank GOD I didn't install!!!!

I'm still fuming though. My son wants to buy me the ep this Friday and I told him to wait on that because it has been a terrible ep from just the first hour!!

I feel like so many of you have been robbed literally and I refuse to let EA rob my son! They owe us a serious explanation and that message that the Guru left saying they are aware of the 'save' issue...though I do appreciate a response and I do realize that he/she has higher up's that probably tell them how to respond to this problem...a problem with 'saving' is not the only issue.

I hope you get everything worked...all who have and/or having issues. I will keep checking the forums...I'm a regular anyway but not usually to Tech..I usually visit General discussion. And for the person who came to this thread to state how overjoyed she is with her game play and having NO problem...I think that stinks. Why would you feel it's needed to come and rub in peoples faces your contentment when others are in game play pain. Tacky...seriously! Then she gives 'advice' that she could have kept to herself because she has NO problems and people have already tried it. She wanted respect and response to her advice of a solution after seriously boasting and rubbing in peoples that she has had no problems.

Ok...I have vented! I do know that if this is not resolved by Friday morning...I will NOT get the WA and Sims3 base game may be my last EA owned game! Go to facebook and see what they are writing about over there. Some of it's is just not pretty!!

Oh...maybe you can post how to go back to the 1.4 patch. I've seen several inquires and there are so many that don't know how to do that...myself include. Just a suggestion.

Wow ive been looking all over to see if anyone has this problem... When i go to cas all the traits are blank. I can't choose anything not even by using random...wth! I dont know what to do i just want to play World Adventures... any ideas???

My game crashes upon loading now. I can't even play it long enough to discover that I can't save my games anymore.

I uninstalled the expansion, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to uninstall that patch. I looked through every one of the game files, and don't see the patch as a file anywhere. I guess I'll wait a few days before totally uninstalling my entire game, to see if EA comes out with a patch for the patch.

How do you uninstall this patch?

Not to sure where I should throw this problem out at but here it goes... my game installed fine and did all the updates and so forth. I am not getting any error messages but several weeks ago I started having trouble with installing custom content. Now I download from the Sims3 site so I dont think it is a problem with the objects because as I said it is all content from the Sims3 site mostly from the store. I uninstalled the game today because I bought the expansion, cleaned up my pc and reinstalled adding the expansion. Then I loged into my page and went to get all the content that I had puchased when I first got the game decided to leave out anything from the exchange just to make sure that it wasnt too much content for the game only the few puchased objects that I had and riverview about 23 downloads total. Now I had alittle trouble at first, everytime I clicked on something to download it to my laucher the launcher would pop up but nothing would download, after hours I finally got the objects to the launcher but not one object will install. I click and click and nothing happens. I can see that it isnt my mouse because everything else I click on works. so i went and downloaded that easyinfo tool and checked out my pc, I knew it wasnt that because I had no problem when I first got this game. I get no messages or anything that would tell me that there is a problem accuring so I just cant figure it out. Before to day I at least had some of my purchased content and the extra neighborhood and now I have none of it. Its there it's downloading to the laucher but wont install, I can click install and see the install button move with my mouse but no install. I am so unhappy right now. I don't even think I'll be able to sleep tonight. I have tryed and redone it several times today now I just want to cry and go back to playing my sims2 but I have to install again now. Really sad because I bought this new pc just so i could play the sims3. God I hope someone can tell me what the problem is. And if not where do we send the games to get our money back? I spent over $100. on the games and the books.

I've managed to fix some problems here and there for myself, so see if this works for you.

IF your game is getting stuck at the loading screen with a full bar...

IF your game seems to take an impossibly long time to load...

then try the following

Go into your Mods/Packages folder, and remove/move all files that have a name similar to "0x0a2beccc32f747b4b61006ffa7fbb7f6". If you arrange the icons by name, you'll see a big block of them. Move them all somewhere else, or if you're feeling adventurous, go ahead and delete them. They are any content you've downloaded and installed through the Sims 3 Launcher. Anything you manually installed should be okay.

Now, what this would do theoretically is remove your official Sims 3 custom content, downloaded from this site. However, for some bizarre reason, after moving them, I was still able to access all the content in the game. So go ahead and do whatever you like, just get them out of the Mods folder.

Second of all, and as I'm sure most will know anyway, remove Awesomod if you have it and pray they release a compatible version soon. Remove both the 'Awesome' and configuration files from the Packages folder.

Lastly, go into My Documents -> Electronic Arts -> Sims 3 and delete any file that ends in the word 'Cache'.

Boot up the game, post results.

This DOES NOT fix the Error Code 16 nonsense. I was able to Save As... just fine.

I had this problem too. I can't remember exactly what I did, but either try reinstalling The Sims again (JUST the base game, then try the launcher, then add WA). Or, reinstall the EA Download Manager. That thing just loves to cause problems.
