I don't think that the problem of people buying a stuff pack or an expansion pack not knowing (or refusing to believe) that you need the base game is new or even unique to SIMS.
All of my CIV expansions have "Must have CIV IV to play" on them just like SIMs.
I'm with Jarsie on that too. You can't control for stupid.

You need to remember how many collectors have said this will be the one SP they won't collect. Many people here, like me, have bought every things Sims imaginable that EA has thrown out there whether it be EPs, SPs or store sets who are saying no to this SP.
And there are many "KatyKats" that have never heard of The Sims3, nor play it, nor want to buy the base game just to dress a few pixels i her clothing. They probably would rather spend that money on look a like clothing for themselves.
I think the release of the Diesel SP announcement might even make sales on KPST lower then expected since many undecided people will look at the difference in what you can use the packs for, the fact that Diesel has more clothing then KPST, especially for guys and there is not an endorsement fee attached and decide to spend money on the July SP instead of getting KPST.
The Diesal Stuff Pack has less content overall then KPST"S hence the normal price. There is probebly more clothing then objects in DSP but either way I win because I can get a new stuff pack in June and a new stuff pack in July. I wonder what sp 8 will be.

As Stormwench and many others have said before there was 71 items in HELS and it was still $20. I want to see the "dozens and dozens" of content that EA swears that they have put into this game. You don't necessarily win, you're just happy. As I see it that $10 more that you spent on KPST could have been half of the diesel or whatever other SP that EA comes out with.(And before any of you say it I have the funds to buy KPST or the whole TS3 franchise so there is no problem there.)

Really, don't believe the "extra objects" statement until you see it with your own eyes. It was likely just a marketing ploy used to calm reactions to the price.

I thought that was what he meant by "either way I win". "Either way I get something I like, so I win"...maybe?
That's how I feel right now anyway. I like what I've seen from both of these SPs so far.

You can be happy and not win. Especially after you said in another thread that you were not really looking forward to the diesel pack coming out in July.

That's true. I guess it also depends on how you define "I win" as well.
He did say he wasn't looking forward to the Diesel pack...did you change your mind CLP?

Lets face it, KPST does not have enough, unique items (5 dresses with different stencils are not 5 new items and so on and so on) to warrant $10, or more if you are in the UK and some other countries.
To day they have said that they 'n now confirm that KPST was a promotional bonus SP and that Diesel was the planned SP6' [sic]. That makes it pretty clear that from their 'promotional endorsement' there is no question that KP is getting paid from EA for her endorsement. Endorsements by definition are not free things. Its further obvious that EA entered into an endorsement contract for the first time with a celeb and was not sure whether they should risk their own profits and that is why this SP is more expensive.
Its pretty clear that is EA charged $10 more for the game that was in the Showtime box with KP's face and name on it that had the exact same contents in it that the Limited and regular Showtime version had then that extra $10 dollars was for KP's endorsement of that EP. No one believes that the few downloads they got with the KPC edition were anywhere near worth $10.
Yes, the item count in KPST is a bit higher then TL, but much of that count is simply other things in that same pack that are just different colors or use different stencils. I am sure the Live chat will make a big deal out of wallpaper and patterns that never have been counted as unique items before as items that count towards 'dozens and dozens' more content.
Even you have said, over an over again, that if you buy extra things like the ice cream machine and the gumball machine and so on that will help KPST be something usable - to other people. Why should paying extra on top of paying extra be the answer? You have to buy extra to make a 'stuff pack' work because SP's never have functional game play in it (according to Jennifer) so why is this SP more expensive then any other one except to pay KP? No reason at all because they are having to pay KP. If a few more objects really did cost the team more money to make, why was TL only 19.99 when it had much more then other SPs? Mainly because KP did not have her face and tail end painted on the box.

I changed my mind once I saw the furniture.
Also remember everyone the 2nd chat hasn't come out yet so once we see it they may reveal there is more then 71 objects in sweet treats.

I am a parent, I know full well that it's "supposedly" rated T for teen, and my twelve year old has been allowed to play the sims since he was 10.
You know why? This game may be "rated" T for Teen, but EA appear to be aiming it at kindergarten children. Interactions? Dumbed Down. In depth Gameplay? Dumbed Down. The entire series? Dumbed Down.
There is no longer anything even "Teen" or remotely even "Young Adult" about the sims 3. It's become a game directed at five year olds.
OP, while I am all for agreeing that EA do indeed swindle their customers, your entire initial post was very much a dramatic overreaction.
Edited because I can't spell.
Made it to page two with my reading of this thread, found Pary's post and said "Yep!".

7 to 12 years old shouldn't even be listening to her music.
Have you heard her lyrics? Not appropriate for children at all.

How are they "TRICKING!!!!" them? It's their own decision on whether to buy it or not, and it clearly isn't aimed at 7-12 year olds, as this is a T-rated game.

HollowGuy wrote:Hi,
I just wanted to exclaim how disgrunted I am that EA are IMMORALLY tricking 7-12 year olds into buying their T-rated products via this Katy Perry promotion. Call me a skeptic all you want, but I don't believe for one second that these guys had good intentions in mind when they decided to put Katy Perry on the front cover of their products like this. Any self-entitled Katy Perry fan would purchase this in a jiffy, and I find that very worrying. Not necessarily because the game is inappropriate for their age group, rather it's because they don't know how much of a bad deal they're getting!
Not only are they completely oblivious to the fact that the vanilla edition is REQUIRED for the product to function (costing them an additional $40), but this SP in particular is $10 more expensive (and probably 10x worse) than the norm!
This is just PURE EVIL and I will NOT support a company that shamelessly swindles such an innocent and, unfortunately, oblivious age group!!
Lol... coveat emptor (may the buyer beware). It's rated T for teen so if children under that age group are buying it that's the fault of their parents not EA. Also, not all of Katy Perry's fans are pre-teen girls. Could it be that EA had Katy Perry endorse their products because they thought it might help their sales? Katy Perry is fairly popular last I checked.
It says right there on the box that you need the base game to use the stuff pack. If anyone fails to read that on the box, that again is their own fault.
You can debate the merits of their marketing strategy I suppose, half the threads in this forum already do. But immoral? Seriously? They're not using false or deceptive advertising, they're not trying to fool people into thinking they're getting something other than what's really in the box. It's the job of parents to decide what their children do or do not buy and play, not the job of EA or any other software company. Methinks you're overreacting just a little.
It's the job of consumers to do their own research on a product and decide whether or not it's worth their money. So long as the producer of the product isn't outright using false or deceptive advertising, you can't blame them for what you get. (Ever occur to you that people are smart enough to figure out what they're getting, and decide for themselves whether or not it's worth the money? And if that's not the case, that's their own fault, assuming the producer wasn't outright lying to them.)
Fun little story; someone called a technical support line and complained he wasn't able to use his modem to get onto the internet. Turns out he didn't own a computer to hook the modem up to. He was angry that the advertising claimed that the modem was advertised as "all you need to access the internet!" and that the advertising was deceptive. Would you say this person should have educated himself better before making himself look like an idiot, or that the company that sold him the modem without telling him he also needed a computer (though I imagine the packaging on the modem probably indicated something to that effect) was immoral for tricking him into buying their product?

The only reason Deisel has a "normal" price while KPST doesnt is because of her endorsement. The Sweet Treats stuff pack would cost the same as Deisel if it werent for the fact that Katy Perry's face is plastered all over it.
