Every so often my game keeps lagging. I'll get intervals where everything pauses for a few seconds, I'll still see animations of things like ZZZ's when sleeping or TV/Radio sounds, and then it'll catch up.

I'm also getting random crashes to desktop, mostly when in build/buy mode. The game will freeze up for a few seconds and then the window will turn white with a popup telling me that Sims 3 has stopped working.

I tried using a program called Large Address Aware after reading something about Sims 3 being a 32 bit program and not working too well on a 64 bit OS. I'm using quite a few mods, mostly for adjusting curtains, windows, and mass-storage of books and food items, and I'm also using quite a number of NRAAS mods including MasterController and StoryProgression. I'll post the mods and DxDiag in separate responses.

hi geekgirl101

so please post dxdiag.

you sound confident with computers but just want to confirm u are good about keeping mods up to date, clean cache files and additionally have u installed MTS dashboard and if so have u used it to confirm u dont have any conflicts with mods..

also do u have nraas overwatch installed? and is your SP the regular mod or do u have TEST version installed?

also since sometime after the release of the Pet patch the game's programming changed allowing it to access up 4gb...i personally dont think large address aware is necessary. i too have a 64 bit and its not an issue.

Yes, no errors or conflicts found in any of the files and they're all up to date. Just emptied the cache files now to see how it reacts.

Yep, I have overwatch. SP is the normal Base-Mod, not the test version.

wow geekgirl101 your mod list is almost worse then mine...almost!

first ur graphic card driver needs updating...and this may be the what gives u the biggest relief..so go to your computer site..not card for update...

also still interested in knowing which SP u have installed. the original is known to cause some lag and your processor is little low...2.5 and higher is better, that said does your turbo boost work?

also do u use dashboard...with this many mods it is always wise to check for conflicts

all sounds good, thanks,

so after u update drivers i suggest u pull SP and run a vanilla game and see if yuo have the same amount of lag...

my guess is that u wont...if u dont then try the test instead...please of course read all stuff on it...but folks are reporting great things about ..most importantly that the lagging issue is gone

IMPORTANT - before u pull SP reset all worlds that are important to u before pulling mod.. go to cityhall/nraas/ reset all. and when u return to playing SP again reset at the start again

oh one last thing i forgot to ask are u playing a really old game or legacy ...some lag just cant be fixed ..old games are one

ok, I did a quick driver update and about to start resetting my worlds and pulling SP out to see if a new world lags. Resetting the cache didn't seem to make any difference, game was still lagging.

The only world I've been playing so far is a fairly new one since all the others crashed and were no longer playable. Don't think it classes as a Legacy since I have a couple of custom-made characters in the world. I'm playing the Goddard family which is one of the premade families.

As far as I'm aware the turbo boost works just fine. I haven't used it since I've never seemed to have a need for it.

great..hopefully the update is all that u need...though do consider using the tested SP over old

good luck and post back if u still have any problems...

You're right, the non-test version of SP does seem to be the culprit for the regular lagging. However the crashing in buy mode is still there, mostly whenever I try to change the colour of something.

glad to hear about test SP..sounds like another satisfied user of a twallan mod!

re buy/build - first to some degree this mode is just a bit glitchy ..question is how often are u crashing...

first make sure your system is cleaned of dust..this can seriously affects performance ..i started cleaning my regularly and this has reduced crashing to rarely when in buy/build..

ive also seen other post that when they do major building they do it in a cleaned out vanilla world

also make sure that u r keeping the system cool..

next turn off in game advertisement (do that in in-game option) and dont say logged in when playing...only turn on in game stuff when needed..EA has admitted to these options being buggy

Definitely no dust in there, and this baby is very good at staying cool. Very rarely does it ever get warm (unlike my previous laptop which went so hot you could fry eggs on the keyboard.)

I'll try your suggestion to avoid logging on. It always asks to log me in to post ingame events like birthdays, promotions etc.

Well staying logged off didn't help. Again in buy mode whilst using the create a style selector it crashed. Seems to happen when trying to move the camera whilst using the create a style tool.

btw ceejay402, I do feel a little insulted about you saying my processor is a bit low. I bought this machine only last year and was rated as one of the top affordable gaming laptops. It's fully capable of running several online gaming clients at once with no lag. Surely Sims does not require a super computer to play it?

Also, as I mentioned in the new topic after I couldn't find this one, the lag is back and sometimes it's completely frozen and requires killing it in task manager. I checked nRaas website for any more updates and he's just bumped up the SP TEST version to normal version. Didn't see any other mod updates.

It may be of note to you that the Sims 3 executable files are already large address aware so there is no need for a special program. See the link below and take note of the bold text that says, "If your game is patched to 1.17/2.12/3.8/4.5/5.2/6.0 or newer, the necessary files are already large address aware so there is no reason to follow the instructions on this page."
