Dissatisfied with the confirmations I was receiving on mixed gender triplets, I decided to create my own experiment, complete with video content. For those who are even more skeptical than I am, I suggest reading through all the documentation I have provided. pfksue was also kind enough to try this in her own game, so if you need secondary confirmation, it will no doubt come from her when she replies with her own results. She also tested this with other variables that I did not feel compelled to test as I was already overwhelmed by this project.

The Test:
To get mixed gender triplets/twins through using the "determine gender" + gender modifying food bug. Read the lower section on the stats of the sims used.

My test involved only giving the test mother three pieces of fruit that were contrary to what the doctor told her the gender was going to be. She ate nothing else during the entire pregnancy.

Every save game that was used to cull information from was saved from BEFORE they "tried for baby." This was to ensure that the pregnancy itself would be different from other pregnancies I was forcing.

Theory:
1) Take one pregnant sim and bring her to a capable, active, non-bugged doctor who can determine genders.
2) Once you find out the gender of your child from the doctor, do the complete opposite.

So if your doctor tells you that you are going to have a boy, you would typically force feed your preggo sim watermelons to attempt to force a girl birth instead.

Technical details:
I ran this experiment in a clean game with no mods whatsoever. The only content in-game at the time were downloads from the store.


Videos were taken with the in-game tool and then edited in Windows Movie Maker to increase speed and add text. I did not take sound with the videos, as it would have eaten into the file size, causing it to bloat. No other tampering or editing took place nor am I even clever enough to figure out a way I could do such a thing with such basic tools. I uploaded the videos to WeGame as I have had great experiences with their service not destroying my video quality on upload.



Data on test Sims:

The house I put them (Minihaus, located in Sunset Valley, 53 Maywood Lane) in was absolutely empty, sans a bed, a loo/tub, a stove, and some washing basins. I did not want to have any sort of distractions that may impede the purity of this test. There is nothing upstairs.

Free will was also turned off, to prevent the sims from doing anything besides what I dictated.

Neither of them had any traits. For the sake of this experiment, I had removed all of their traits to make breeding easier.

Both of them had fertility treatment. I was not interested in wasting my time on single births, when the wait to give birth is three
days.

The pregnant sim was not allowed to eat anything during her pregnancy besides the three fruits I fed her after the "determine gender" was performed.

I used testingcheatsenabled true to make "static" the needs of both test subjects.

The pregnant sim was also not allowed to watch any kids tele or listen to kids music. As she already had the fertility treatment, I thought it would be best to give her a chance to birth twins, just in case.

Male sim was cheated into level 9 medical field (Neurosurgeon), where I played him for a day or two to get him promoted (to level 10) and establish the relationship between the two sims. I did this to prevent any bugs that may occur from simply cheating him to the top.

Test sims were not married nor where they going steady. Their relationship as of this test was "romantic interests."

During the pregnant phase, I ignored all "wishes." Having a "successful pregnancy" does not, in my mind, calculate into this mixed gender bug at all so I did not bother to feed her food she was craving, nor did I allow her to have back massages or read pregnancy books.

All birthing took place at the hospital.

Extra notes:
Due to the basics we know about eating gender-influencing fruits during pregnancy, the influence also carries along with food that is already cooked with those ingredients. Please keep that in mind when you are feeding your preggo lady. Eating fruit is never a sure-fire way, in and of itself, as the results of gender influencing are cumulative in nature and not definitive.

In the experiment, I use cheats to keep my preggo sim fed. If you are not keen on using cheats, you may feed her quick meals or meals that can be confirmed to not contain any fruit (as to not take any chances) from the list available here.

If you are running the mod that removes all gender influence from foods, it is feasible to say that this bug would be impossible for you to recreate in your own game without removing the mod first.

AMG IT'S A VIDEO
After I did the first test, I realised I hate the in-game video capturing system of TS3. Not only are the avi files completely useless to me because I cannot load them into WMM, lossless (uncompressed) files are mostly unsalvageable once they get past a certain size. My first test ended up as a 18GB file that I basically could not play in any media player (VLC included.) Because it was unplayable, it could not be converted by any programme I downloaded. Later on, I got smart, turned down the settings and tried to record many smaller files to stitch together in WMM, but I still had to convert them all to a format that was practical. At this point in time, I am not interested in recording more than one attempt because the first two made me want to hurt someone. Lord knows, I probably messed up my registry installing and uninstalling different programmes and codecs. Luckily I made great use of system restore points.

Attempt Results:
I only attempted to do this twice, as my first video did not work out too well and by the time I had managed to make the second video, I was already burnt out on the entire thing. But basically my results were thus:

ATTEMPT ONE: Doctor determined the gender would be a boy, so I had her eat three watermelons. She ended up birthing twins, one boy and one girl.

ATTEMPT TWO (as seen in the video): Doctor determined the gender would be a girl, so I had her eat three apples. She ended up birthing two boys and one girl. They all came home in the same baby carrier proving they were actually born triplets.

In conclusion, take from this what you will. The video portion of this experiment broke my will to live, so badly that I don't really even know what to say anymore.

I also have a question. I usually like to use a new neighborhood to make a new family. When I want my sims to find out what the gender of their baby is supposed to be, there is nobody that can help her. Do you know of any maxis made sims that have the ability to do so?

I would like to say that I am pretty sure the person doing the "determining" has to be in the active household, as it is an action initiated by them.

Anyone is welcome to argue with me, as I do not usually have my sims converse with townies.

I'm glad you don't have to watch tv and listen to the radio. That was kind of a bummer because I lost the use of my girl for three days just so that she could have mixed twins or triplets.

It is always nice to be "absolutely sure."

Both parents did have fertility treatment, which in and of itself really kind of negates the need to watch kids tele/music unless you sincerely want triplets every birth.

Mhm. I'll have to try that then. I'll just use the cheat to make him reach the top of the medical career, instead of having to wait forever for it to happen. I was assuming that Jolina girl would be able to determine, considering I have played her before and she's pretty high up in the career track. But I guess she couldnt...

I don't think Jolina starts off in day-0 saves high enough in the career to determine gender. She will need to be at least level 5 iirc to determine genders.
