Welcome Build-n-Share Weekly Challenge!

The Build-n-Share challenges will be posted Wednesday of each week and run through the following Wednesday. Results will be posted no later than one week after all entries have been submitted.

The benefits:
Each entry into the competition will receive an automatic rec (recommendation) and download on their entry lot. Most lots will also receive additional recs, as we now have six judges for our weekly competition! Because of an outstanding turnout of firms in our first several weeks, we have broken down the challenge into six categories: beginner, beginner mid-level, beginner/intermediate, intermediate, intermediate/advanced, and advanced. If you are a first-time participant, please let us know where you think you might fit into the categories. When in doubt, go a little lower, and your judge can always "bump" you if he or she sees you might be misplaced.

First place will be awarded at all levels. If there are at least eight entries in a category, up to four places will also be announced. In each category, first place will receive 3 recs, second place will receive 2 recs, third place will receive 2 recs, and fourth place will receive one rec. Winners may request recs on a particular build/s by providing links to the related lots once results are posted.

Weekly challenges also create an opportunity for community on the forum site. We get to know one another’s names, share news, builds, and positive words. This is a chance to get your name out there, and hopefully make a few friends along the way. As a participant in our challenge, you may also post new builds you are working on to our Builders' Showcase thread so group members may check them out. You can find that thread here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/49652.page

What makes this challenge different from all the other ones I've seen?
We have been hosting this weekly challenge since the first week the game was released. We have many levels of builders in our community and welcome them all. This group is truly a product of all its great members!

Within the first few challenges, our group was recognized by the gurus that be, who have helped the weekly challenges gain even more popularity be stickying both Build-n-Share threads. Since then, we have had at least one featured creation almost every week, and our list of featured members continues to grow.

With 2 successful collaborative neighborhoods (Gnomelandia and Summer of Love) just about completed, Build-n-Share hopes to bring more creative challenges and new neighborhood ideas to the community with the help of our dedicated participants who willingly contribute and help each week to make sure each challenge runs smoothly.

The rules:
All entries must be original work. Any competitor who submits another builder’s work will be disqualified and banned from any future Build-n-Share challenge. These competitors will also be removed from the Builders' Boulevard website as well as our Yahoo! Group 321 Builders’ Boulevard if they have chosen to join (membership to the site and the Yahoo! group are not required to enter a Build-n-Share challenge).

Any object that is purchased from the Sims 3 store may not be on our system, so please realize that when we judge, we may see a substituted item instead. You may use these objects, just please recognize this caveat of the store.

Please announce your official lot posting using the entry form below. Make sure to leave the "Official Entry" label big. If you need to reformat it, you can do this by highlighting the desired text and then selecting "Big" in the font box above. This will help us see the entries in a sea of posts with no pics to guide us.

Entries must be submitted by the deadline, 7 p.m. Wednesday evening (eastern time, USA).

A description of the three major level categories (which are now subdivided):

Beginner--I have a little experience, but I'm still figuring a lot of things out. I would not call myself an official "builder" at this point. This level includes Beginner, Beginner Mid-level, and Beginner/Intermediate.

Intermediate--I have been building for awhile. I know the basics and maybe a little more. I may have entered a weekly challenge or two for Sims 2, and I may even have won on occasion. This level includes Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced.

Advanced--I know the Sims, and the Sims knows me. My name is familiar to a lot of veteran players, and I've competed in and won some weekly challenges and maybe even been recognized in a community showcase or two. I know most of the cheats AND I know how to use them. This level includes Advanced.

Two additional opportunities:

Member Anjubee and I have started a new website and forum with the builder in-mind. We have just recently begun and are still adding some features, but we hope you'll join us anyway at http://www.buildersboulevard.com . The site offers an additional forum for advertising lots and a method of private messaging your favorite builders!

I have also created a Yahoo! Group for builders. It can be accessed at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/buildersboulevard/ . You do not have to be a member to enter. This group will be used primarily as an announcement center and for some of our more complex polls, and possibly, databases.

Week 13, Autumn Winters
Deadline: Sept. 2, 2009 at 7 p.m. Eastern time

Autumn Winters arrives at 7 p.m. sharp, just as you arranged over the phone. You finally have a face to put with the name. You notice her well put-together attire and wonder why she needs your help for the decorating.

Autumn is confident and sticks her hand out to greet you. “It’s so nice to finally meet you; I’ve heard so many great things about your work. I just can’t believe I managed to pin you down for my new home! It’s a true honor.”

You decide you like this charismatic woman even more.

“So you mentioned you are looking to build for next week?” You begin the usual conversation.

“Yes,” she laughs. “Always working on a deadline, it seems. I’m hoping this build won’t be too hard for you, though. My budget is a little more modest than some of the larger projects you’ve had recently, I think. What I would really like is a 1 or 2 bedroom home with a nice office. I tend to bring a lot of work home these days; have to keep up in these tough times!”

You hand Autumn a cup of water. She has barely taken a breath since she began talking!

She smiles, takes a quick sip, and continues. “And I want a place where I can entertain. A large kitchen and an open floorplan, at least for the main level of the home, would be a nice plus. I want a nice home to gather with friends and family, but also a home to impress my coworkers! I’d like clean lines and classic style, nothing too modern or too floral. My name reflects all my favorite colors: red, orange, yellow, gold, and brown.”

“Any other requests?” You ask, mostly to give yourself a pause to get everything down.

“Hmm…well, I saw the double-sided fireplace in your showroom. I’d really like that between my bedroom and the master bath…so luxurious! And a garage would be a bonus. Early hours mean lots of scraping in the mornings without one. I have a new car I want to protect…come see!”

She’s almost out the door before you’re out of your chair.

In the parking lot, she beams at you from the driver side door of a sporty red car.

“That’s about it, I think,” she says as she begins to open the car door to get inside. “Thank you SO much for your help! I can’t wait to see the home.”

Autumn pulls away in a flash; you go back to your desk to start drafting a plan.

Autumn's Budget: 30K
(You may also add a "sporty red car" free-of-charge after spending the 30K for the construction and decoration of this home.)

Please include the following info in your post:

Official Entry

Name:

Link to the posted asset:

Additional links (to pictures, etc.):

Experience level:

Lot Name:

Lot address, size, and final cost:

Details and Rational:

Credit to any simmers for custom content you used:

Please also make sure that your upload includes your name either in the title or the description. It is best to include this in "edit info" on the property in Edit Town mode before you upload or save to the library. The information you enter after you hit "Share" only shows up on the exchange and will not show up in the judge's game, so please make it easier on our poor judges by entering your name somewhere in the description before you hit the "Share" button. Additionally, please make sure to credit the creator of any custom content. And if you can fit in that it is for Build-n-Share, we would be very pleased.

Photos

We are going to continue to use our photo sticky, as it seems to work pretty well as a format for sharing (versus spreading information).

Please do not post photos in the challenge thread.

Please post pics of Build-n-Share works-in-progress and your final creations for this week here:

Hee hee. Thought we'd been too easy on the budget lately...but I think this one is "do-able."

So glad to have you back, SimEve. I think school has me fully in fall mode now, too. Can't wait for the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet!

Hey, Sunset. Sorry about that. I need to look up the title of it. It's the one with the "window" on two sides so you can see the fire from both sides. If you look on the picture for my build called The Carson, you'll see which one I mean. In the meantime, I'll dig up that name!

Hooray, Invisible! Glad people are digging it.

Alright, thanks addict!

EDIT: OOOH! I know what you mean! I thought you meant 2 separate fireplaces, okay, I'm good now.
