Known issues:
Occasional freezing. This is better than it used to be, but I appreciate that it is still annoying. I will see if I can improve this further. [b]I've discovered that the world runs a lot more smoothly if you are able to remove the CC, so anyone with freezing troubles should try this.[/b]

The world was meant to upload as a city, but instead uploaded as a suburb like SV. I tried to change it to a city but it didn't work for some reason.

[b]Sadly, there will not be any further updates to Metrotopia as my CAW files got corrupted.[/b]

[i]Disclaimer[/i] Lots made by myself and EA only. Some CC made by third-party Simmers and some Store content but nothing major.

Finally, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the thread with their ideas, requests and feedback. You have helped to make Metrotopia so much better and I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

[b]*The world does use several fog emitters both in Central Park and at City Hall, bringing the city to life with pigeons! The first time you make a new Metrotopia save you will only see fog, but the next time you load your save the emitters will revert to the pigeons.*[/b]

[b]*If you need help finding the statue to cure your Sim of curses, it is near the sea in the city section of Metrotopia.*[/b]

[b]*While playtesting, I noticed that Overwatch helped to keep things smooth in terms of lag, and I also sped the game up by resetting everything with Master Controller. (City Hall...Nraas...Master Controller...Town...Reset everything)* If you don't have these mods and don't have a problem with them, I would recommend getting these two. They can be found here: [/b]

I've been working on this for five months. After getting my new computer the other week, I also got Ambitions and Late Night to help me finish the world. However, after some trouble with Edit in Game I realised that parts of the world were too small, so I'm now rebuilding it; bigger and better than before.

There will be a residential area on the other side of the bridges, with a river and a beach. For now I'm just rebuilding the city section.

[b]Regarding CC:[/b]
A few houses use small to moderate amounts of CC, and there are a few custom textures that I've used, mainly for the building site. If you remove these items with custard I'm sure the world will still be fine; you'll just have some houses with slightly different windows/plants/other objects.

Which beach did you guys mean? The one in the residential section or the one at the end of the city?

I also use mods to remove paparazzi - its just not a part of citylife I care anything about and the celebrity thing with Late Night is waaaay overdone and annoying. Worst part is that it follows you into other games (even a tiny tropical island is plagued by paparazzi) - so yeah, I got a mod to stop that crap.

I love city life. I just don't love Late Night so much (except for subways, those rock).

[b]Note[/b] that there will not be any blank lots. If you want to build your own house, you will have to knock down an existing one. This is because I want my world to look 'full' when it appears in my videos.

I have three different starter homes- all for under $18,500.
I'm yet to build a laundromat- but plan to do so.
I needs to furnish some of the houses and fill the last empty lot by the beach.

There will be no lots left blank. I'm using this world for a machinima and I want it to look as 'full' as possible. The residential area looks complete on the outside... but lots of the houses still aren't furnished on the inside. If I decorate the inside of every house it'll take ages.

I myself say release a version that has the unfurnished houses/lots, then go back and complete them if you still feel willing to do so. I've seen people do that. Heck, Awesims did a world that was mostly entirely unfurnished house-wise, and I doubt anyone would accuse them of being lazy when looking at how the world's constructed! I myself often replace most of the buildings in the world with ones from my own collection, since I'm horribly picky. Whether it is a town or a city is a tough decision, especially when you have to involve 3rd party programs to make the distinction. I really wish EA would have that as an option BUILT INTO THE GAME. I wouldn't blame you for leaving it as a town. The same is true of your consideration of furnished vs. nonfurnished houses. I usually add my own lots to the worlds I use anyway. Either way, YOU should always create what and how YOU feel comfortable. It's ART!

I've furnished two more of the houses so far, and since there are more than one of each that makes 5 more complete homes to live in.

There a 3 starter homes at the moment, all bungalows, all under $18,500. I may build another if I find a suitable space.

There is only one blank lot right now. I want the world to be full as I'm using it in a machinima and besides it's easy to just bulldoze a lot and start from scratch.

There is now a laundromat, which I will reveal in the next update.

Metrotopia is about 93% complete.

I still need to add spawners, finish a few lots, add effects and decorate the surrounding hillsides.

I have used items from it in several houses, but I don't think it is 100% essential. I know that not having the EPs can cause the world to crash while loading, but I don't know about the Stuff Packs. I noticed about 1:18 that there's a undeveloped part of the map. If you don't have plans already, this could make an awesome place for a forest area, where you can have houses that can look over the city area or hermit-esque type places.

The hills surrounding the city are okay, but they may be better if parts were removed to allow an ocean view, especially from beach areas. Make them scenic! Maybe model in some different textures, or have a road go through them that allows for some park areas.

It may be good to try to vary your colors in modeling the ground a bit- for examples, maybe look at the EA worlds or worlds like Neverglade. I've heard people will layer by having textures at a lower opacity and run them over places that have tiling textures (like the EA shale pattern, which I don't think you used so this is just an example XD).

I've managed to try something like that myself (ground texture layering) when I tried making a world of my own, but my computer pretty much hates the program so any action I do takes half a minute to do. No fun.

Like I said, these are nitpicky things that probably only I notice- I'm giving a lot of feedback because I really like the way your world is shaping up, so don't take it the wrong way. That undeveloped area you see at 1:18 is going to have celebrity-type mansions overlooking the city. At the moment there are only two lots but if I find room I might try and fit another one in.

Regarding scenery, those hillsides will be non-routable, so I won't be placing any parks there. However, I'll consider what you said about the views from the beach lots and see if I can improve that in any way.

I've tried to vary the textures on the hillside a bit, but perhaps it's not very visible. I'm still working on the terrain painting in some places, although don't expect miracles in that department because painting is one of my weaknesses in CAW.

@shoni89P: Thanks. When Metrotopia's finished, I'll consider uploading the CAW files somewhere, but I'm not too sure yet.

But can I suggest something that will make it 1 million times better... the textures you’re using, the green grass is stunning, but I think the one little thing that makes this world look very... not real at all is how the green grass goes straight into the river... I probably mentioned this before, and feel free to conk me on the head if you've already tried this, but if you want areas that meet the water to look realistic, but don't want to put beach sand everywhere, maybe use a dirt or stone brush instead. I've seen some people use both: they'd put down the dirt first, then the stone so it looks like there's a transition from grass to stone.

Other tricks I've seen in my own tries at CAW is that EA and others sometimes use a darker green grass brush for little crevices and dips in a hill, then light green on the top of a hilly area- sort of like shading in shadows and adding highlights in a drawing. Might be something to play with if you're having sworn off terrain painting in general.

I'm a nerd, I swear- if I can actually get CAW to play nice in the future I'll probably be here too.

I CANNOT WAIT for this city to come out! I can't stand the layout of Bridgeport and I've been dying for a city with a decent residential zone outside of the city, so that you can have your sims sit on the patio of the house and look at the city lights from across the river or something. Well, lots of the residential shell buildings from my world were pre-built from Late Night taken from the lots and houses bin.

Before building that part of the world, I found out the sizes of all the lots I wanted to place, such as 40x40s, 20x30s, etc. Then, I placed these lots down in CAW and made the roads run between them, trying to give it a grid-like layout. I'm afraid you will need all EPs except Generations- I won't be getting that until this is finished. But Metrotopia is very Generations-compatible! A few minor problems:

- Routing errors in one of the tombs
- Several floating plants by the seafront crane
- One routing error near the beach I added recently
- Sims would refuse to enter the stadium

These have been fixed.

A few changes:

- I added routing to some of the steeper parts of the world, as one of my Sims would jog up the terrain instead of using the sidewalks
- I believe all Community Lots now have custom names
- I've added some fire hydrants and road grates
- The junkyard spawners which weren't on Community Lots were spawning objects that could be used but not salvaged so I removed them.

A bit of a bigger problem:

I was experiencing freezes and pauses while testing the world. They were making it almost unplayable, but I think these are fixed now.

Been playing for a good hour now, just really finding my way around, My comp is just your average run of the mill one, but Metrotopia is working like a charm. I haven't had any problems of stuttering or lagging, no problems what so ever.

Please remove ALL your CC (just temporarily) from your DCCache folder, then re-export the world again (with the houses, the missing CC will be replaced by standard items) and post it because some of your CC are also corrupted. People do have to delete the cc them self through the launcher, because with installing your old world sims3pack (the one that still has the cc) it installed all the cc. But really If you want my advise, just remove all your cc. You know it can run good now with this expansion but with the next it could not and then it corrupts your whole game. It happened a lot. Windows and other stuff, that don't work anymore. Stuff that even let your game crash if a house uses it. It's a drag believe me.

Ok, well I fixed my first problem, I just downloaded with Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome, but now it's in my launcher in the downloads section, and whenever I try downloading into the game, it says "failed". I am trying to make CC-free city versions of both the blank and non-blank Metrotopias. However, it isn't letting me do both, so for now I am going to release just the CC-free versions and see if I can make them cities later on.

If you have the world files still, you could test this by removing each second lot or pulling them all further away from each other and doing a test export. It fixes things for me when I remove some lots that are too close together.

It looks nice, only five months, grrr!!! it took me ten months to make my first one and I worked flat out. My current on has been going on for a few months but I've been on and off it a lot.

Known issues:
Occasional freezing. This is better than it used to be, but I appreciate that it is still annoying. I will see if I can improve this further.

The world was meant to upload as a city, but instead uploaded as a suburb like SV. I am working on this.

I've been working on this for five months. After getting my new computer the other week, I also got Ambitions and Late Night to help me finish the world. However, after some trouble with Edit in Game I realised that parts of the world were too small, so I'm now rebuilding it; bigger and better than before.

There will be a residential area on the other side of the bridges, with a river and a beach. For now I'm just rebuilding the city section.

However I think I know the source for the lag (in the normal CC-free version), you have placed many trees, and trees are a lag magnet especially on low graphic/memory computers. If you thin a little out in them some of the lag would improve.
Also skyscrapers tend to attract lags, but that might just be my computer that doesn't like them, because I seems to lag a little in Bridgeport. So they might be a factor for the lag as well.

For the freeze, are you having any emitter that is overlapping each other to many times or just have loads of them? I think mostly about the fog emitter in the city hall that you mention, it might be a reason, not saying it is.
Or if a road is broken, that might cause issues as well.

In my game the world seems to work fine, but I did not play any sims, I only looked around and so far no problems, I could move around smoothly. However saving the world took a bit of time than what it usually does, could be because of all the buildings, trees, or cuz its the first time I save. Still gonna test that out.


All in all I must say you have done an amazing job on this city, and I actually hate skyscrapers XD you have balanced it good. Having a area with houses for living only while the jobs, some few apartments and such are away from the houses, and placing the city and the small town on island gives it all an awesome view, and it got a beach! lol.

I will test the houses and the rest for CC, but you can see if you got CC in your game via the launcher I believe, but I will check tho.

The launcher has not picked up any CC from the normal CC-free world, however, when I installed the Blank CC-Free version I got quite some CC in >.< had to remove it, but even removing it didn't seem to break the game (again didn't play a sims) Also I do not have any stuff packs and it runs fine so far.

Do you have spawners in your world?

I manage to find the world again, you hadn't remove it from the mediafile so I I was able to located it via the Historic.

Alright so I looked at ALL the houses on the little island (I did skip some houses as they looked like the rest, I image you just copy and pasted the same house from your house-bin)
And I came across some things.

In Modest Family Abode price 140.606 in the bedroom with the double bed I found a Magic Vampire Gnome I have NEVER seen that kind before but I don't have any experience with gnomes or vampires, so I don't know if this is able to be obtained in the game.
Also at the front door you have a lot of gnomes I have not seen either, such as Napoleon and a Chinese kung fu dude. Also this house twin (the house beside it or above it depending which angle you look at) has the same gnome at the front door. But this house is the ONLY one where I found that vampire one. I would remove these gnomes o.O

You have a lot of houses that looks the same, same decorations same look, but players can just remove those if they wish.

Also on one lot you have a car in the yard, with no option to drive it out, spite I know that sims can just put the car in their pockets I still though it was odd to place a car in the yard

You like gnomes eh? Almost every house had a gnome or two XD

Also it looks like you have placed some objects at places they are not able to be placed using the moveobjects cheat. This MIGHT be a reason for the freezes if a sim active household or not are trying to access the item/s and then can't since it wasn't meant to be able to be there in the first place, so you might want to consider to either change those objects you did that too (unless you did it to every single one) or start over and not use moveobjects. I am not saying this is the reason tho, but it might be.

It seems like you have used some cheats, personally I would advice not to use cheats when creating a world as that might start to conflict with stuff in the world, but I have never created a world but I know that using cheats can cause issues and/or conflicts with some element in the game.

There is nameless house in the house island that does not show correctly (at least not for me) It appears completely white on a distance but if you go in to build on the house it will show correctly again. In Edit Town mode it looks all white and misplaced.

Also for each house I entered it took some time for my computer to show the items in the house, at first everything are just white squares. This is normal tho, some computer are a bit slow to animate the items in a house if the house is big, in my case it took way longer than normal, but I suspect that is due to your world being big with many tress

But else I like the world, tho I am planning on remove the houses and place my own, the only part I do not want to change is the city area, to me that is fine
I just don't like the houses.

That's strange about moveobjects, but you're right, it could be a cause. Next time I work on the update I will look into this.

It looked just like a sim grave stone when they die, just this one had no name on it, it just said "Remains"

As long as you keep the color from the outside of the houses you should get the desired look, but else re-make some of the houses aka move some walls, put different stuff in and so on.

I also have a very bad time with high rises on my current computer. I'm not sure why but generally have had to stay clear of worlds that contain them and have dropped out of testing. Still, many people will be able to play your world so don't worry too much about that. But if for some reason you get more incoming reports of lag, always take a look at the high rises and make sure there's nothing off about how they are configured.

@itsjulie- That's fantastic, I'm glad there are still people out there who love Metrotopia. I was in a screenshot thread a while ago and it made me so happy when I saw that someone's pictures had been taken in my world.

@DevroCat- that's strange. I don't really know what the problem could be I'm afraid, I'd suggest try saving in another world and see if you have the same problem. I tried to make Metrotopia a city and it worked in my game, but then it wouldn't let me upload the sims3pack that was a city so it is just a suburb world.

If users were playing these worlds in CAW, then what you are asking them to do would be possible, but we don't. Your world never changes outside of CAW, because USERS play your world on a new layer - we call Save Files - and our save files are basically nothing but clothing added on top of a body. We can cover up something in the world, but we cannot eliminate anything. Removing content in a save file never removes the programming or the fact the game still sees that content still where it was, while we see it gone in our save files. So technically all we are doing is adding another layer of clothing over the offending object, but never removing it. It is the equivalent of putting a bandaid on top of a cancerous mole. Without getting the mole removed properly and the area treated, we are still going to have a cancerous mole under that bandaid.

So just like only a creator could totally remove a cancerous mole, users can't penetrate the Seal formed in a world that is removed from CAW. We could see a doctor to remove a mole, likewise we might be able to find a mod to render the CC useless, but we can't remove it from your sealed world. Only by taking the world into CAW can the seal be penetrated and the CC removed. Even creators find that somewhat tedious and sometimes have to go down layers to the spot they added the content to remove it, as you obviously found out. Going down layers can mean having to redo all the layers you added after you added that content. You can get past the corruption in your world by going down to the layer before you used the offending content, but being human nature, most of us would rather toss out something then have to redo the whole thing.

This my friend is my main reason for objecting to a creators use of CC in a world, because the minute EA changes the programming, and that content is affected by the changes negatively, your entire world becomes useless. So unless Creators are willing to take their worlds back into CAW and constantly rebuild the world with every game changing update or EP, they really should leave the using of CC to the individuals that play the world on save files and not in CAW.

To prove what I say is true - play your game with the published world, and go remove some content, save the game. Quit.

Now go back into the game and start up the world - not your save file, but the world with a new save file and what do you see? Not a single change you applied to the world during your last save has in any manner changed the world itself. All offending content still in place. Your save file did nothing but put a bandaid over the bad content and rendered it invisible - but it is still there in that world and still doing what it did to start with, only you don't see it. Eventually your save is going to corrupt because of the conflicting information between the save file you are playing on and the original file that is the world itself.

The only way to avoid that kind of massive conflict is to avoid potential troublemakers - which as nice as CC is, we all know that changes in programming can render even the best made CC troublesome, game breaking, or bad because the game programming itself only recognizes OFFICIAL content to give new commands to. Like it or not that is the way programming works. So I constantly tell creators not to use CC if you are making a world to share - so what it is a wee bit less shiny in your eyes, at least you don't have to worry about it all imploding with every game change. Leave the CC use to the users, and your world will be around and useable for a long, long time to come, while the CC using Creators will be going through what you are going through now.

I am sorry to contradict you, but you obviously do not know about a tool named Custard. With that tool I managed to extract and delete all CCs included in the world file, install the CC-free world and play it. This city is remarkable, very big and with lots of lots.

I don't think it's a CC problem as that's included when you download the world.

All I can think of is that you need to manually patch your game due to possible incompatibilities, but I don't know how to do that. I think it'd be best for you to make a thread on this in Technical Discussions and see if someone can help you.
