i do have the nude patch but i dont have this exact issue...
when the download finishes my screen shaded out and i hear a bing sound; when windows vista opens the user account control...i assumed to allow the patch to install....but nothing poped up...it went away...and the launcher opened again and said "there is a new patch. whould you like tp update?" but i just did....... O_o
and to make things worse...i didnt save the original files. >_<

- The patcher breaks if you have the no censor patch.

The game will kick you out on the loading screen with if you have the face hack installed (the one to adjust the slider range) - presumably the body one will also have this effect.

I am monitoring the patch posts as they come up. There seem to be a few commonalities; not all conditions need to be met to provoke an error:

*No EADM installed/non-current version of EADM.
*Mods/hacks installed.
*Non-standard install location.

It's for the convience (spelling?) so you just speed through one activity, such as cooking a meal and then go back to speed 1 so you can control your sim again. Give your Sim a task like a bath or shower, then use Speed 4 and it'll fast-forward until they're finished bathing.

Think of it like a DVD chapter-skip, rather than a fast-forward.

EA didn't make the mods, it's not their fault. The creators of the mods will need to update them to get them to work with the newest version. It has always been like that since sims1 hacks.

i had the problem with the launcher closing on accepting the patch.

I managed to get it to work by running as admin and putting on xp service pack 2 compatiblity even though im running vista 64 and then changing it back to normal after it installed

I restarted and then when i went on the sims game launcher the little update message did not come up, so i went on the little 'game updates tab, and it tells me that the game is up to date.

So... hopefully this means the patch is installed, not that my launcher just forgot about it.

I am not sure what you mean by 'searching your system'; the patcher will check the installation of your game and the registry to ensure that it can install correctly.

Some mods once removed, mess up the game all by themselves. I believe the non-blur is one of those. If that is the case then unfortunately you may need to make a backup of your game, and then reinstall the game.

Also for many users the patch is working fine, there is really just a handful that it is not working from what I have seen. In fact many of the problems are solvable. It is like this with all patches, from many games not just EA games.

It has only been available for a short time, no my nods weren't the issue, yes I am glad it didnt install, no it isn't only a handful of people, yes the thread about crashes is still there (sorry to admin), yes it was locked so people can't continue to report the crashes. Oh and I couldn't find it because of the amont of people on here who just write and start new posts without looking for one already exosting, and if you read everything you can on this, as in what others are saying, you will see a lot of people are having crashes. Well I am sorry you are having problems, but this does happen with lots of games after they have been patched as I'm sure you know. I realize you have a technical site, I've seen you post it on the forums a few times, and I'm glad you are trying to help others as the community here is trying too. I say a handful because their are millions of people who have sims3 and most do not even go on the forums unless they have a problem. I have yet to see that many posts about patch problems.

Yeah,right.I did that and it says I don't have enough hard drive space.Click ok,then it shows Downloading 0 / 18716088 showing progress bar with no no progress.

To be honest I would rather have my mods than this patch as the patch doesn't address the issues I have with the game. Mainly the borked spawning.

Case 1. Old man gives birth to a child a day before he dies.

Case 2. New girl I made in CAS for my sim to marry had a baby in two sim days, no pregnancy and no man anywhere, she was building a relationship with my sim.

Now that needs a patch.

I'm afraid the mods do more for the game than the patch is so if I can't have both without crashes then I'll just keep waiting till the community fixes these things. Why wouldn't it work with mods, unless the coding is different to the base game, all the mods are using the same code as the base game?

And sorry, I'm just getting irritated by the amount of threads on this, because people don't look first and by the amount of people who ask a question after it has already been answered on a thread, grrr. Didn't mena to pull your hair lmao

I can understand your frustrations, my hair is still in place split ends and all. The mods are not made from EA, but the moders of the sim community. Unfortunately, many times this means a newer version of the game is not compatible with the mods/hacks. Moders usually will have to update their hacks/mods to make it compatible with the newest version of the game. In fact they update their mods/hacks a lot, so it's always good to check back where you got the mod from now and then.

I know of the issues with the spawning babies, I do think this is simply how story progression was designed, though badly it seems to be that way.

Hopefully this all gets situated soon. Oh and it seems that most mods will work fine (default replacements and basic xml hacks) but some core mods may have to be updated, the update updates a few scripts etc that core mods edit (Awesomemod and similar hacks). Had to turn off UAC, restart and then open the Launcher. Thanks for the reminder JasmoVT.
The update appeared to go through as it was intended.


BTW, I also have to run the launcher as Admin (setting EADM to run as admin didn't fix the update issue) to get items to download/install from Exchange.

It had something to do with the shaders package, due to possible custom content.
Here's what i did, it may help:

Go into the actualy game disk and extract the shaders_Win32.precomp, found in game/bin. Replace it into the ganme/bin in the normal C drive.
You may need to move all the files in mods/packages out just in case, you can put them back later.

This got the patch working for me. However, as soon as the game started loading up, it crashed. To fix it, i removed the facialhack.package from mods/packages.

Anyway, I'm having the same problem remarked upon by some of the earliest posters. The only custom content I have is items from the exchange (no gameplay/blur changes or whatnot). Basically the launcher can see there's a patch but if I tell it I want to download it, nothing happens, the launcher vanishes and I may as well not have run it in the first place.

I do run on vista though and have had problems all over the place with downloading/installing anything that involves both the browser and the launcher. Once multiple applications get involved I start seeing problems especially with Firefox and for some reason the Sims launcher is always defaulting to using IE even though Firefox is my default.

So I'm not surprised that I'm having problems installing the patch because once again the launcher is using some other application to do its dirty work.

I'm going to try the UAC thing even though I really don't want to mess with my user access stuff. I've never installed any third party mods, and have only added Riverside, and some friends' sims through the Exchange

I had installed, both initially and on the re-install to the default location
(C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) and have admin rights on this machine.
I am running on a WinXP (SP2) machine
3.0GHz duel core processor, 2GB RAM, GForce 9600GT graphics card

I currently have 64GB of space on my C drive, and have attempted both before and after reboots, after deleting temp files etc, and with and without firewall running.

Other than this update issue the game runs ok for me.

I am monitoring the patch posts as they come up. There seem to be a few commonalities; not all conditions need to be met to provoke an error:

*No EADM installed/non-current version of EADM.
*Mods/hacks installed.
*Non-standard install location.

Give your Sim a task like a bath or shower, then use Speed 4 and it'll fast-forward until they're finished bathing.

Think of it like a DVD chapter-skip, rather than a fast-forward.

However, the other issue.. the jerkiness, has nothing to do with my machine. I know everyone says that. But it's not. And if it was, then it would be jerky on speed 3, too, not just Speed 2. The slowing down of the game, with the patch would cause the jerkiness. If I had it on Speed 3, it would run smooth. They were just moving WAY too fast. I unistalled and reinstalled and it all works just fine. I don't need the patch,so I'm just going to wait until they actually have one that might do me some good. 1.Moved the "packages" folder that is within the "mods" folder to my desktop. It had all the patterns, skin files and hacks - i.e custom content.

2. I was using the censor remover that overwrote files (the one called "Shaders_win32.precomp") so I deleted it - luckily I kept the original so I put that back where it belonged.

3. Moved the "resource config" file to the desktop

Installed the patch - held my breath and crossed my fingers.

Started up the vanilla game - even watched the startup screen again. Once it got to the family I was playing I quit the game.

Went and got the no censor package this time from MTS2 - the one called "No Mosaic"

Put the package folder back in the mods folder and the resource config file back where it should be

Started up my game again.

I'm either brilliant or lucky because my game is still playing in the background as I type this.

Now I'm off to see if the patch did any good.....

Remove it and then try to patch the game and see if it works. Remember EA is not responsible for third party additions. Any additions that you add to the game that was made by a third party and if a patch is needed the maker of that addition is responsible for a fix and this where the situation gets sticky. When people add third party additions or upgrades and the game goes haywire some people think EA is responsible when they really is not. I don't use third party patches to fix my game because I don't know if down the road if a problem will turn up somewhere else amd also my game runs without flaws. As in the notes some computers even with a patch may still experience some problems. i had the problem with the launcher closing on accepting the patch.

I managed to get it to work by running as admin and putting on xp service pack 2 compatiblity even though im running vista 64 and then changing it back to normal after it installed

Mine patched fine but I'm getting closing of launcher AFTER the patch. IE related issue somehow? I know it'll upload a few recolors then just shut down, no error or anything. Repeatedly this does it, eventually I may get it all uploaded but it keeps crashing back to my desktop. Are the files I was last uploading each time before a crash good files still or are they corrupt now? How could I check them all since I"m not sure if ANY are corrupted/affected?

I'm not mad, just frustrated with the repetition of it all ([prepatch]cd issues/launcher crashing/[prepatch]when putting up wallpaper, highlighted wall sections stay lit sometimes/[prepatch]lag if something is in hand while dragging screen/[prepatch]downloads not downloading past 1 kb & not installing/[prepatch]game not launching from one cdrom but backup works/[prepatch]have seen grass areas on the road when zooming in & out/launcher now logging me out & rejecting a recolor or 2 saying I'm not logged in). This is the longest list of issues ever with any sims games for me but I am not angry & I have fixed a few of those issues or found a workaround. Just don't want the wrong idea to be taken through my text here But I am pretty disappointed in the situation & hope to get it resolved soon.

Thank you!! I was searching everywhere on HOW to fix the issue (I never thought about looking in the disc, haha) and replaced the Shaders_32.precomp file and everything is working again! Too much of a hassle to uninstall and re-install esp w/ all the custom content and styles.

then there was this patch and I read that it fixes a numbers of Crashes,and I though this might fix my problem,so I installed the patch without any problem,when I begin playing I noticed that the third speed is faster and I though that my problem was fixed,then after a 2 hours playing the game crashed again.

i had the problem with the launcher closing on accepting the patch.

I managed to get it to work by running as admin and putting on xp service pack 2 compatiblity even though im running vista 64 and then changing it back to normal after it installed

Mine patched fine but I'm getting closing of launcher AFTER the patch. IE related issue somehow? I know it'll upload a few recolors then just shut down, no error or anything. Repeatedly this does it, eventually I may get it all uploaded but it keeps crashing back to my desktop. Are the files I was last uploading each time before a crash good files still or are they corrupt now? How could I check them all since I"m not sure if ANY are corrupted/affected?

I'm not mad, just frustrated with the repetition of it all ([prepatch]cd issues/launcher crashing/[prepatch]when putting up wallpaper, highlighted wall sections stay lit sometimes/[prepatch]lag if something is in hand while dragging screen/[prepatch]downloads not downloading past 1 kb & not installing/[prepatch]game not launching from one cdrom but backup works/[prepatch]have seen grass areas on the road when zooming in & out/launcher now logging me out & rejecting a recolor or 2 saying I'm not logged in). This is the longest list of issues ever with any sims games for me but I am not angry & I have fixed a few of those issues or found a workaround. Just don't want the wrong idea to be taken through my text here But I am pretty disappointed in the situation & hope to get it resolved soon.

Once I got the patch downloaded properly the update failed on the Shaders file. Oops, forgot I had that in there. Replaced it with my backup and told it to patch again, which it did without having to download anything and worked just fine.

Speed 3 seems to be a bit faster, but wasn't unnecessarily slow before the patch. I don't think I was having any other problems that this patch fixed.

One guy I helped get CAS running without shutting down his computer by using a frame rate limiter reports that the patch did not fix the problem. I do not know at this time if his patch was totally successful; I'll report back on that later. He's still using the frame rate limiter now.

Please note that any time you change any game file it's likely that a patch won't be able to complete. It's been this way for 20 years and isn't likely to change any time soon. Files you add may or may not cause problems, but you should check with the site where you got them to make sure you don't need an update.

I have to report that despite problems getting it started, the patch process was relatively easy and painless and seems to have worked.

Same. Wish me luck. I was getting the 'dfc-gorilla error Invalid file found' despite having no hacks at 11% install of the patch. I did have my own music files in the game (forgot about those at first), but removing them didn't help. Wiped the entire game from my system using the directions posted by staff, so we'll see what happens when I re-install.

I guess I'm lucky too. Patch dowloaded with no problem and game is running fine. No cc in my game. Only downloads from the ea store. I created a sim in CAS and uploaded him to the exchange with no problem. I played the game for a short while after I put in the patch and the radio was playing music fine. The speeds are faster now. I feel so bad for all the trouble some of you are having and hope it all gets resolved soon.

I am not sure what you mean by 'searching your system'; the patcher will check the installation of your game and the registry to ensure that it can install correctly.

I manually uninstalled the game, reinstalled, and the patch finally worked. I'm afraid to add my backed up files into my game now, though everything seems to be working fine now. 5.5 hours later, and I'm playing again without problems (so far). Whew. Finally.

Launcher tells me there's an update available, goes to start the download and then says I don't have enough disk space.

Which is funny, because I'd have thought a ~20MB patch would fit into a ~4.5GB of free space.

when I reinstalled to the D:/ drive but kept the Sims3 directory same as it would've been in C:/, the patch installed fine. Haven't played the game yet, but I was more concerned with the patch than the game.

I believe the user is referring to Mod The Sims. Its a website that have some really cool mods for the Sims 2 AND 3. When you find users talking about nude patches and the like, they are probably referring to Mod the Sims website or some other mod site where they got the nude patch.

c'mon this is assinine...there is no excuse for it not patching it because of a modified file...it should just patch over it at least.

I've NEVER had a game fail to patch because of a mod'd file..if the patch had anything to do with that file it just REPLACED it...and if it didn't (like this has nothing to do with the blur) then it didn't matter...

The invalid file found error looks like a mod was used and it altered a file that the patch is looking for and by not finding the file it crashes or refuses to go further with the installation. You have to remove the mod or worst scenario reinstall. I suggest you back up up your save location before reinstalling so you won't lose your progress and if you want to use the same mods just reinstall after installing the patch. I guess what's somewhat unclear (to me) is whether or not this is a new town, or if you already have an active family selected.

On that page you can also find a link to help show how to back up your files before reinstalling. (Thinking of you, salrae62) because Dani is right... it sure does help to backup files before trying to fix issues, just in case everything needs to be reinstalled.

However it should be noted that I *think* there's a typo on that page... I think you should "copy" the folder, not "cut" it. LOL

I have a slightly different method myself. I go to Start/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. I right-click-and-drag the "The Sims 3" folder to a completely different drive into a folder I named "backup" and select "copy here" when I let go of the right mouse button. (That's for Windows, not Mac) Yes, it can be a large file to copy.. but it should have all your saved games and files you could want to restore later. OMG, you are so amazing ( at least in my eyes, LOL) Yes, that is exactly the one that is [b]missing[/b] from my game. This happened after I un-installed and then re-installed trying to fix the problems from the patch. It goes to the neighborhood screenshot that you showed with the tutorials as if this was my first time playing but the only difference is the button to [b]choose a household [/b]is [b]missing[/b] all together.

Totally cool by me if you do that ^^ However the one you got is best since it shows the actual button missing - wow. If you have a program to edit it with, you should be able to use the selection marquee tool and then go to Edit/Crop to make yours smaller.

As for the screenshots... do whatever you did to get that one. LOL! The only difference between yours & mine is that I edited it with Photoshop. (You can use MS Paint or any number of other image editing software.) If you want to use the one I made, you can also right-click it on the page and "save as". Totally cool by me if you do that ^^ However the one you got is best since it shows the actual button missing - wow. If you have a program to edit it with, you should be able to use the selection marquee tool and then go to Edit/Crop to make yours smaller.

Well... hmm... I'm sorry but that's about the most help I can be I'm afraid. I wish ya lots-O-luck. Post again if you manage to get it fixed. Maybe you can help someone else with the same problem by posting your story.

My apologies, Papi. It wasn't intended to be a secret, I was just focused on her main issue of a missing button. It was sort of a large post & didn't want to fill the screen much more than I had to at the time.

For anyone interested in how to make a screenshot, there are many different ways you can do this. A simple way inside the game is to use the little camera icon on the console (or press C). Those images are put two places at once: uploaded to the launcher/download manager and also to the following path on your computer: Start/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Screenshots. Those images can be copied to any location on your hard drive and edited with any image editing software you have. However, (as in the case of clever leosgrl88 ) sometimes you aren't able to use the camera feature if you are unable to get the game to launch fully. In those cases you need to use your computer's screencapture technique. This can vary depending on your machine. On some machines it's as simple as pressing the home/prt sc (print screen) key. However on other machines you need to hold down the function key (fn) while pressing print screen. (In rare occasions the f12 key also works... it depends on your machine and what program you're currently using... be careful with f12 because ya never know what other function it may have... so always try the others first.) NOW... with all of these processes, the next step is to open an image editing program and pressing ctrl+v (or selecting Edit/paste). Then you save your document. (and it can be edited that way too) The thing to remember with this form of getting screencaptures is that your system can only hold one image at a time. It's basically like text copy&paste but with images instead. So if you're inside a program such as TS3 and you want multiple screencaptures, you have to grab a SS, minimize the program & past into a new file, save, reopen the program, grab a SS, minimize, save... etc. Can be a tedious process like that. But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. LOL!

I hope this helps anyone that may have wanted the info. I'm sorry I didn't go into the details earlier, Papi.

And leosgrl88, yeah if that's a registry issue there are tutorials all over the web on how to clean your registry. I would try to explain it, but my gosh it would be a huge post and I would feel horrible if someone messed up their registry on account of me. Manual registry cleaning can get a bit tricky. I would suggest trying to reinstall the game again first. (That's what I would do anyway) And if that doesn't work... try searching the TS3 forum for registry issues. Surely there are threads & links on it to be found. If not.. then search registry cleaning on the web. There are free registry cleaners out there. But hopefully somewhere on the forums is a list of the registry files that people have had troubles with & how to replace them using your TS3 disc. Maybe LOL

The invalid file found error looks like a mod was used and it altered a file that the patch is looking for and by not finding the file it crashes or refuses to go further with the installation. You have to remove the mod or worst scenario reinstall. I suggest you back up up your save location before reinstalling so you won't lose your progress and if you want to use the same mods just reinstall after installing the patch. But keep in mind that you may have to do this after every official patch from EA comes out.[/quote][/quote]

thanks - I guess I didn't explain myself clearly. What I'm trying to say is that I already downloaded the patch thru the launcher, and it still didn't fix the story progression toggle. It did not, however, create crashing/other problems described by other people on this thread. Do you think a direct download might fix the SP toggle, when the patch thru the launcher did not? Then rename the original file backup as Shaders_Win32.Precomp. Go back and then install the patch. This worked for me and should for you, but for this particular problem only.

No, it shouldn't but when you install a third party patch you are bound to have problems when a official patch comes out and it is not the companies responsibility to fix a program that a third party patch was used on until that program is restored to it's natural state. and arxwphile, too. No! It's not just you! It's not third party mods. I've tried doing the launcher shortcut (twice), the workaround (never worked), the patch, and reinstalling. NONE OF IT WORKS. my e-mails to tech support are ignored or I get preprinted answers that don't have anything to do with the question I asked; when I post that I won't use mods/third party patches, I get flamed.

I'm sooo disappointed in EA. I've loved all the Simgames from the beginning, but this experience has just been terrible. I wish EA PR would **** it up and just announce that they haven't figured out how to fix it, and they're still working on it, and ask us to be patient. Ignoring us is making a lot of us very unhappy. I have that same version (a direct download from the EA Store online) installed on a Windows Vista OS on my laptop and I don't have a problem running the game, my speeds are just a little slow, but are otherwise fine. My issue is the Launcher, it crashes before it even opens, so I cannot even download the patch and I'd really like to as well. And I have an updated version of the EADM, but I cannot find the patch there!


I am keeping my fingers crossed that they'll have a fix soon. Until then I'm going to keep looking for answers. Good Luck!

I do have Sims 2 still in my hard drive. However, I don't see how that would prevent the patch for Sims 3.

EDIT: Does anyone even know what the error code means? What is an I/O error and what does attribute modification mean? Like mcollazo, I do not have any additional content added to my game, other than Riverview. I haven't even downloaded my free car yet. Also, the only suggestion on here that I haven't tried is running my Vista in xp service pack 2 compatibility mode. How do I do that?


EDIT #2: OK, I figured out how to run in xp service pack 2 compatibility mode, but it didn't do me any good. I opened the Launcher, clicked on update, the entire update downloaded, then the Launcher reopened and asked again if I wanted to update. No installation window appeared or anything. Go to start, and in Start Search type regedit > Hkey_Local_Machine\softwre\sims\ The sims 3
One of them is SKU. Double click on SKU and change Value Data from 1 to 2.
If its another value other than 1 try putting it to 1.. If this doesn't work.. put it back to how it originally was.. 1. Click Start or press the Windows key and R, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.

2. Click on Startup.

3. Select disable All.

4. Click on Services.

5. Check the box that says Hide All Microsoft Services, then Disable All.

6. Apply, then restart your system.

Attempt to reapply the patch. This will eliminate most of what might be interfering with the patch running properly on a software level. Once you're done, repeat the above procedure, using the Enable All buttons to turn services and startup items back on. If the patch has already been applied, you may want to back up your files, remove and reinstall the game.
