However, not long after I posted the contest, the set went on sale at the store, and many people snatched it up then (I don't blame them!). Now, I'd like to offer the BahHaus set [b]or[/b] any equivalent set(s)/combination of items up to 1350 points. I hope this change will make the contest more appealing for those who already have the set while still providing it for those who still want it.[/i]

For this contest, I would like to challenge you to build a great [u]single-story[/u] family home. There are some amazing multi-story dwellings out there, but I find it's more difficult to find good single-level homes, especially those large enough to house a family. The winner of this contest will receive the [url=http://store.thesims3.com/setsProductDetails.html?categoryId=&scategoryId=12336&index=0&productId=OFB-SIM3:19504&pcategoryId=12859&ppcategoryId=12335]BahHaus store set[/url] or any set(s)/combination of items of equivalent value (up to 1350 points)!

[size=18][b]Contest Specifics:[/b][/size]

1. Your home should have a [u]minimum[/u] of 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, living room, kitchen, and dining room. Beyond that, I leave it up to you in terms of additional spaces you might want to include.

2. There should be a decent amount of outdoor space; at least a backyard area that can provide play options for children and entertainment options for adults.

3. Lot size no larger than 40x40 please.

4. The home [u]must[/u] be a single story. By that, I mean that sims should not need to take flights of stairs (or elevators) up or down to different levels [u]within[/u] the home (and garage). If you want to extend the height of the home for architectural purposes, that's fine, just so long as sims are not climbing stairs to another level [u]in the home[/u]. If you want to build a multi-level structure outside of the home (such as a raised deck for entertaining or stairs up into the home because it's elevated), that's fine. Note that if you have built your house on a foundation with an attached garage, stairs from the garage to the house are fine, since you cannot build a garage on a foundation.

5. The lot should be fully landscaped, and the home finished and fully furnished/decorated. I leave types and styles entirely up to you.

6. Make sure there are [u]no[/u] sims included with the lot.

7. [u]No[/u] custom content please (including patterns). Content from any of the expansions, stuff packs, and the store is fine.

8. Please post pictures of your finished home on this thread. I'd like to see 2-3 exterior shots and 4-5 interior shots. If you want to link to additional pictures or a slideshow, that's fine, but please don't post more than the 8 pictures I mentioned on the thread itself. Please choose the areas you're most proud of or where you've done something interesting/unique to highlight in your photos. Please also describe the home's size, cost, and amenities.

9. Please post a link to download your home.

10. You must enter your own build, not someone else's. That includes EA homes; I'm not interested in a renovation or remodel.

11. One entry per person please. You're welcome to show off any and all builds you have that fit the contest requirements, but please choose [b]one[/b] for consideration.

12. Please list the set(s)/item(s) you would like if you are the winner. I'm a big fan of interesting architecture, and I also love well designed interiors.

Make sure that you balance design with functionality; I want a lot that plays well and easily, not one where sims can't use objects and experience routing failures.

I am always impressed by a good water feature.

Sometimes less is more; I can appreciate subtlety or a minimalist approach if it's well executed and makes sense for the space.

Take care with your pictures. I have to admit that poor pictures will likely reduce your chances of winning. If you take pictures in build mode, please make sure your gridlines are off (by going into terrain paint). Actually, I highly recommend taking the pictures in live mode with a sim on the lot, so that you can use camera mode (TAB) to get the best perspectives for your shots. Don't forget to remove the sim from your lot before uploading though!

Please verify that your lot does not include custom content before you enter it into the contest. There is an easy to use tool available for this purpose (Google Sims 3 Pack Cleaner). Lots with CC will be disqualified.

How about a multilevel garage?

I like to build a basement for workout equipment, inventor's bench, chemistry set and/or sculptor's station. Since we can't build basements on the main house can we add basements or second floors to detached garages (which would be a structure outside the home)?

No CC of any kind, including patterns. I'm sorry; I appreciate a great pattern as much as anyone, but I just won't bring CC of any kind into my game anymore.

Tricky question about the basement garage. I really don't want any separate levels in main living structures. I tend to consider the garage as a main living structure, even if it is detached. Really, the only kind of stairs I envisioned allowing were those required due to elevation, i.e. home on a hillside or for outdoor use, i.e. stairs up to a pool area or raised deck. Another question I could see coming up is whether sunken living rooms and such are okay; they are, as the sim wouldn't actually be going up or down a level.

I have no experience with the Mac at all, sorry, but I am sure there are many people out there who do. If no one is able to answer your question on this thread, I'd recommend posting a separate thread with the question.

This house is modeled after a typical American Suburban Ranch Home from around 1960. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen open to the family room, a living room, a formal dining room and a 2 car garage with washer and dryer. Its purchase price is aprox 160,000 simoleans.

I never noticed this either. I don't think I will ever know everything about building. Have you ever checked out all the options for the fog emitter? I used it to make a waterfall once.

Thanks, I'm really liking it too.

Here's a better look at it. Because it's enclosed in walls it is considered to be a separate room. But because it has the pergola roof it is considered to be outside. Both my test sims love the outdoors so often eat out there. When they do they get the moodlet for being outdoors.

The front veranda originally had arches too but the first thing I discovered testing was I couldn't set the front door as the front door because it was not an exterior door. So I removed the walls and arches and added columns.

Since then I think I've figured a way to get the arches in front and have the front door as an exterior door but I kind of like the more open look to the columns in the front.

No, that's the beautiful thing about the mod - it doesn't travel outside your game. LH, that's what is so great about this mod. You use it to place the fog emitter and set the effects but it does not transfer with the lot. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand again No, I haven't gotten all of my stamps yet on SimPort I got to a great start, but RL kind of got in the way :/ My house has been in such a shambles because our hot water heater decided to give out and dump all of it's contents into the laundryroom, pantry and gameroom. We've had construction people in and out of the house drying everything out, moving out furniture, ripping out flooring and drywall, painting, installing new floors, doors, drywall....ugh! Anyways....sorry for the rant, lol. I definitely plan on going after the rest of my stamps hopefully after the holiday weekend

EDIT : I have corrected a few problems with my original upload :
- cleaned up the laundry and leftover food that my tester sims left behind
- changed the bougainvillea on the right side of the front door that would rise up above the pergola when the lot was placed
- painted the kitchen and laundry room cabinets a cream color (I though the wood was too dark)
- rearranged and redecorated the nursery/girls bedroom room and the boys bedroom.

It costs $162,822 plus the cost of the lot. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, entry hall, office, living room, dining room / kitchen, laundry and a single car garage. There are 2 pergola covered verandas one in front and one in back. In the back is also a perfect garden, kids play area, a pool, pool house with hot tub and workout bench, a bar-b-que and room for more outside activities.

Besides the perfect garden, the plumbing and electronics have been upgraded and many pictures painted. Some of these shots don't have all the paintings that come with the house. Excess ones can be sold.

Oh my gosh, I feel your pain! We've gone through water damage 3x in our household, and the last time, it was from our 2nd floor jacuzzi tub that leaked down onto the 1st floor. I decided that the Front water displays would not have fountains/water jets so they have zenlike appearance and sims can see out the front windows to the street clearly. The ponds also look as if the swimming pool goes under the home.

Before uploading your lot, check it with [url=http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=390235]Custard[/url]. This tool will open your sims3pack file and show you its contents. A lot that is CC free will have one package that is for the lot itself and then some thumbnails. If there are additional packages, they are CC that have been included in your file.

How did the custom content get there? In my experience, some CC is "sticky." If you ever placed it on your lot, it can remain as part of the file, even if you subsequently deleted it. Obviously, if you deleted it, there is no easy way to get rid of it from the lot in game. I recommend using the [url=http://www.modthesims.info/d/364038]Sims 3 Pack Multi Extractor[/url] to extract all of the packages from your lot file. Then you can use [url=http://dino.drealm.info/den/denforum/index.php?board=19.0]S3PE[/url] to open each package and get information to identify the CC. Once you know the CC, you can uninstall it via the launcher and then re-export your lot. You can always reinstall the CC afterward if it is something you don't want to lose for good.

There is an easier way to re-export the lot CC free, but it's only an option if you didn't use store content - and that is to check the option to run the game without custom content and then re-exporting your lot in that mode. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a game room, a tv room off of the kitchen, a 2 story high living room and dining room, 3 fireplaces all upgraded to fireproof, a laundry room, an outdoor excersise area and lots of outdoor courtyards including a safe play area for the children.

My intent on this home was to bring the indoors out and the outdoors in. I visualized it being located in an area with a mild climate year round, like San Diego.

In the spirit of the contest, I decided to expand the build so that it would have 3+ bedrooms, so I've got two structures in my build. I've mostly been working on the shared courtyard at this point, going for a modern Asian feel. I'd love to get your feedback.

I extracted the packages from the sims3pack file, but S3PE won't open them (presumably because they are corrupt), so it's difficult to determine what exactly they are. If you don't have a ton of CC, one thing you could try is to uninstall all the CC you do have, re-export, and then re-install. Of course, if you have loads of CC, that's a good deal of work. However, it does appear that whatever these packages are, they have issues, and if it were me, I would want to get them out of my game. Hope you'll be able to work it out. I figured out what that nagging feeling was that I had forgotten something: I forgot to run it through Custard to double check for custom patterns. I knew there was no CC, but wanted to check the patterns. Well, I found one pattern in there. I have deleted it and saved the package again but right now my studio won't open for me, to delete the first upload and upload again without the pattern.

As soon as I get that accomplished, I will post the download link for you.

Thanks. I appreciate the offer and I was just about to go that route, but I've got it figured out. I just went through the house piece by piece until I found the pattern that insisted on attaching itself and removed it before I saved the lot. So now it is finally on the Exchange. What was weird was that the Exchange had no problem allowing me to upload the file with the pattern in it, but if I cleaned it with Custard and removed the pattern, THEN it would not upload. Strange, huh?

Tricky question about the basement garage. I really don't want any separate levels in main living structures. I tend to consider the garage as a main living structure, even if it is detached. Really, the only kind of stairs I envisioned allowing were those required due to elevation, i.e. home on a hillside or for outdoor use, i.e. stairs up to a pool area or raised deck. Another question I could see coming up is whether sunken living rooms and such are okay; they are, as the sim wouldn't actually be going up or down a level.

I have no experience with the Mac at all, sorry, but I am sure there are many people out there who do. If no one is able to answer your question on this thread, I'd recommend posting a separate thread with the question.

That does look odd, Mal. I've never seen "store" packs in a lot file before either. One thing I can suggest is to use the Sims3 Pack Multi-Installer tool to extract the contents of the file. Then you can use S3PE to open the individual packages and try to get more information on them so that you can figure out which CC to uninstall. BryonyRae - It still will not upload to the exchange. Very frustrating!!! There is no cc in the build and Ive re re re share/upload thru the game, but still lists same error in the laucher. (Transfer error, upload failure or slow upload and then red circle with cross.)

You don't necessarily need to use Mediafire if there is another upload site you prefer; just so long as you can upload the file somewhere where I can pick it up. There are a lot of web sites out there you can use, and they are mostly free - Mediafire is free for example.

Have a question, beause of this pattern, can I still list the build as No CC? What is the difference between CC and third party content? Also how can I delete the pattern from the entire game? Sorry for asking so many question, but I might as well find out sooner rather than later, and I genuinly appreciate help and feedback.

Anyhoo, I wont abandon the thread, shall be back to checkout new entrants builds, which Im looking forward to seeing more fantastic builds!!!

Ah, wish you'd reconsider, Mal. It really shouldn't be too difficult to remove the pattern, especially if it's the only one you've got installed. Just go to your launcher, click on the Installed Content button, and then on the pattern (checkered) tab. All the custom patterns you have installed should show under that tab. You can check a pattern (little box on the left) and then click on the Uninstall button to remove it from your game.

As to your question, I would list the build as no CC except patterns. It's a distinction, but it should be noted because many people do not want anything non-EA in their game, but some people don't mind patterns. Patterns made outside of the game, even via CAP, are considered non-EA and thus CC. Yes I usually save on a regular basis, but when I build and have no Sims running around, I tend to forget. That's what the girl I built a house for kept saying, but it took me 4 days and many hours to finish. Okay, it was also massive and a little more complex than "Okay, time to throw a room on, where else can I squeeze a door in?"

Legacies... I tell ya. When they just start popping out babies like there is no tomorrow, sometimes you just don't get a chance to build something proper.

To keep things related, this house is not going to take me anywhere close to four days to finish. I've done all the landscaping, all the building, and about a third of the decorating/furnishing. Bedrooms, one bathroom, and a few embellishments here and there and I can play test it with my new buddy, Beta House. Play testing won't take long, since I haven't used many cheats to place furniture, just flowers and garden lights.

And rocks. Because everybody needs a nice boulder here and there.

I am done, house is tested, and ready to upload. But later. Going to dinner now. ByronyRae, I have tried roughly 10 times to get Custard to work on my laptop, but it simply WON'T, so I can't double-check for CC for you. Just a heads-up for later when I get back and upload the house and stuff.

The home continues its wood theme throughout with log pillars in the kitchen and dining room, hardwood floors, and wood patio decking. The dirty laundry and leftover food left behind by my tester sims will no longer come with the lot. I painted the kitchen and laundry room cabinets a cream color (I thought the wood was too dark). I redecorated the nursery/girls room and the boy's room. They were only slight changes to decor. I have changed the pictures in my original post to this thread and to my [url=http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/525233.page]picture thread[/url] for this lot.

I would like to replace the original version of this lot with this new version for the competition, if possible. If not I understand.
