Alternate Play Style? Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat

This thread isn't to talk about the sunshine and lollipops version of Sims. It's not for the players who strive to full fill lifetime wishes and work their way to mansions and have 100's of babies.

This thread is for those of us that play in alternate ways and what we want from EA.

Do you play homeless Sims that have to sleep in the park?
Do you want zombies to ravage your town?
Do you play evil insane Sims that love to cause havoc?
Do you love the drama of cheating spouses?
Do legacies make you want to bang your head on the desk out of boredom?
Are you tired of new, shiny luxury items for your Sims?

Well....you get the idea, come chat and add your ideas and wishes.

I'm hoping for an SP or store content called Modern Slum Living.

What do you want?

Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat

I want the game to function better.

The way I play is based on the careers. When each EP comes out I see what careers have come with it. I then think about the type of people who would be attracted to that career or profession and build Sims around them. This includes the country they come from, the clothes they wear etc.

I then start them at the beginning and build their house up. All the furniture and house design is also based on the profession. As they get better they move to a bigger house and the starter house I built with them is then available for the next Sim with that profession.

I know this is all really pedantic but I love this level of gameplay. The only problem is the game is buggy so after a certain point I have to move them to another town. Luckily Sereniticat2 convinced me to try out Twallan's mods so I don't have overbloated save files so I've started from scratch in Riverview with a couple of solo policeman.

I like to try to do things like each school building has a uniform, etc. It's fun this way for me....when it works.

Edit: I would kill for your Modern Slum Living idea!

That's an interesting way to play. Right now I have an evil, genius inventor who delights going around town blowing up everything he can. His house is full of Steam punk items.

Thanks for the yea vote on a Slum pack. My homeless Sims need things too. They have no need for a shiny espresso machine.

I love the modern slum living idea. They would probably have to call it something else though, whatever the correct euphemism would be. It should be an EP. Definitely the Katy Perry backlash!

If your neighborhood gets corrupted you should check out this thread. It's about how too many spawners can corrupt a neighborhood even with no CC and just by placing and rotating EA lots and exchange lots :

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/523406.page

Re:Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat

I play like a mix of SimCity and TS3. I start a town from scratch, no houses or buildings. My Sims start by farming and selling the food to nearby towns (in my imagination). As they earn money, I build more houses so more Sims can move into town. As the population expands, I allow certain community lots like grocery store. When Sims start having kids, I build a school. Once the town is big enough, I build city hall and the founder becomes the mayor. After that, it is the governments job to build parks and recreational areas, water facility, public service buildings, orphanage, etc. Regular citizens can build the rest of the community lots, but everything must be owned by someone in the neighborhood or I cannot build it. I switch families a lot and make sure that there is no cheating money-wise. I have low income Sims steal to make ends meet and i will evict them if they run out of money. Some live in parks or campgrounds.

My game play style is pretty unique. I wish we had more options for how to manage money. I would love a banking system. I really want my Sims to be able to own more than 1 house and rent one of them out. I'd also like a college or something similar. Right now, I just pretend certain Sims go to college (which is really just weeks of skill building at the library) and then certain jobs open up to them. I also don't let my Sims go above certain levels in careers. Not everyone can be a CEO, ya know.

I have a few towns that I've created in CAW that have no buildings. I've downloaded a few from My Sims Realty that I liked and bulldozed the lots if they were there. It can be tedious, but I love having full control. My game is heavily modded, though. I don't think I could do all that I do without mods.

ETA - I put my insane Sims in an asylum. Those wackos!

Another thing I do is only hit random for traits. Although I think evil and insane come up way too often.

I really like making different zones in towns. I'm making over Hidden Springs at the moment, making the downtown area into a commercial zone updated for all the expansions. Near that will be a bunch of starter middle class townhomes and maybe a high rise or two. McMansions are going up just past that, with mansions in the more isolated hills. The forested, dirt road area will have the junkyard, criminal stuff, grungy little dive bars, and a bunch of shacks and trailer homes. Slum life stuff would be perfect for the forested area. More stuff like Loud, Fast, Clash! I love the TV on milk crates and the patched up sofa. It's details like that that you can't just add in with one of the torn fabric patterns. I'd also like a cheap bed with no headboard or footboard - just a mattress on a basic frame on wheels, like every bed I had growing up. Available in single and double. It was a major upgrade for my parents when they could finally afford a headboard and it looked kind of like the lowest end double bed the game has available. So, yeah, poor sim living, please!

Re:Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat

Phoebesmom601, while this is not a biggy, I started a thread called "Tired of the many bugs in TR3 and feeling ignored?". Then I come on this forum today to see this thread called "Feeling Alienated And Ignored? Come Chat".

While my thread is about so many things that have been plaguing this game since the release of 'Vanilla' (the core game that came out in 2009), yours, according to the subject matter in the first post, seems about alternative ways to play the game.

In my thread, I (and many other Simmers) advocate very hard for EA to make changes regarding the likes of fixing the bugs, listening to what people want to change overall, consumer service, actively moderating that is badly needed on this forum, and so much more. In other word, the thread I authored is about people saying very much how disapointd they are at EA for not taking care of the The Sims 3 and doing pretty much what they want instead (which seems to revolve around making lots of profit while their consumer base is taking the proverbial back seat). That thread (mine), has been going very strong for quite some time.

So I'm asking you if you'd be willing to consider making a change to the title of your thread to better reflect what it is that you (and other Simmers) wish for. I won't even presume to suggest a title for you! This is a thread you authored and what you're asking for in it is quite legitimate and very much deserves the attention of Simmers as you suggest excellent ideas. So this request is nothing againsts your tread.

It's just that I feel the titles may be overstepping one-another. And by the way, I think it was purely coincidential as you may not have seen my thread (or its title) before.

I hope you understand,

My very best regards Phobesmom601,

Marz

EDIT: added something for clarity.

I always start my sims on a 10 x 10 plot then take all their money away. This makes its so much harder for them to survive BUT not hard enough.

I would like the option not to have to buy any plot to play the game. All gyms, local swimming pools, launderettes are free but should have a charge to use as in real life. i would like the option to be able to search bins for food/salvage. Also like the option to repair junk to reuse. (This would also be good for the eco trait). The only thing that should be free are the libraries

I would like many more challenges for the sims to face in order to gradually build their life and wealth. The game is far too easy to gain real wealth, therefore becomes boring (for me at least). If it was possible to have a button for easy, medium or hard play that would be good, but I don't know how feasable that would be.

I'm glad you made this thread Phoebesmom,

I have seen the other thread, and it is very long and about bugs in the game and the general mechanics that I wish were different in the base game. It's all good, too..but I feel EA Gurus don't read threads that are a hundred pages long whether they are idea or Bug threads.

If they did, then some bugs that are in the base game and or some bugs that are still in the EPs that were released 2 to 3 years ago would have been fixed. At least I give them a benefit of a doubt.

Yes, I try to play alternative game play in this game but find it very, very difficult. I have always hated 'cookie cutter' Sims in my games. Meaning, all have loads of money, all reach their LTW, all have no probs and are protected by the player etc., and have 2.5 kids.

But due to this game having an open world it is difficult to make a themed hood/world...where I create the characters in my head, and switch from one to the other to work out the story as I go for the entire world.

What I miss most of all is the lucrative flow of the game...like when I used to go onto community lots in TS2 and lots of Sims showed up and they interacted with one another while I played my Sim or Sims and things happened that would make me ROFLOL...that doesn't happen in this game.

It is all grind. Sims don't 'flow' and I can't say that enough. They pause too long before they do anything. Even if you just cut them lose and just sit and watch...they still pause too often before they do and do the shuffle before they can get to another Sim and they may just stand there and not do what they went over to do. So both Sims are just standing there....pretty lame.

Don't get me wrong...TS3 is O.K. but it isn't great...not when you are used to Sims doing things that make you laugh your rear off and then start playing a game that doesn't. That's just my two cents.

If you put a Sim in Mosquito Cove or the Alto mansion they behave the same way. I once tried playing that asylum challenge because I thought it would be fun to see a lot on insane Sims interacting. The biggest interaction I got was that thought bubble that shows another Sim is in their way and the foot tapping thing. I have free will set on high and I often just let them go.
@PHOEBESMOM601: I'm curious because I've seen that word before, but what is a MacMansion? It must be different to a regular mansion otherwise it wouldn't have a different name but I can't for the life of me figure out what makes it differ from a regular mansion.

I guess I don't stray into the ideas and feedback section enough to see them, but I don't know, I always got the impression that The Sims was not really geared towards me. It's a fun game all the same and I always used to enjoy what we got but never have I ever felt so alienated from the game than I do now with TS3.

Thinking about it, while I've bought the other expansions up to Showtime which I left out due to the social networking I think I still mostly use CC or content from Late Night. It's quite sad considering I've spent probably about £25 on each expansion pack...

Edit: I also would love to have some better wall art. Graffiti / peeling posters / rain-damaged posters, graffiti'd posters or something like that. I used to have loads of CC wall art of that nature but for some reason ever since one of the patches whenever I try to put CC wall art into my game it makes it drag like crazy or sometimes not load at all. It's a shame because I used to have all the Left 4 Dead wall scribbles and other random graffiti from Club Crimsyn as well as some artwork by a deviantart user that a creator had turned into wall art and it went really well with my sims' crappy apartments.

McMansions are very cookie cutter homes. It was filled with blue collar factory towns. There were no high rises but lots of row houses, big Victorians that had been converted to interesting looking apartments, dirty brick walls. main streets that had bakeries, ethic eating places and locally owned businesses.

Now,not by active choice, I live in the SE in a cookie cutter suburb filled with chain stores, chain restaurants and SUVs. I miss the grit, grunge and uniqueness. I'd like to have that for my Sims.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. It's a shame we get no grungy/gothic/punk things yet we will have a candy-themed SP soon. I'm tired of sims being perfect , wearing a perfect attire.

I've read somewhere that people are inclined to think that TS3 is more based on real life more than the first two installments but it's just not true. Otherwise , we would have already got all the starter items.

Meanwhile , I'll keep invading CC sites to obtain what should have been included a long time ago. All they need to do is to expand on LN content.

I would LOVE to see more gritty, urban, industrial and low-priced items in the game. This would be an SP that I would definitely buy. One of my favorite parts of Bridgeport is the shipping dock area which is a bit grungy and run-down.

But an SP isn't enough, EA needs to add more for players who enjoy a challenge and like to start off their Sims with very little money. We need better starter lots (at least now we can have smaller lot sizes that aren't as expensive), REAL apartments that you can rent, and more run-down, lower-end furniture for poor Sims.

Sims should also be able to sell their old furniture at consignment stores so that other Sims can buy it secondhand for a much lower cost.

LN really missed the ball with providing more punk, grungy clothing as well.
