When I first saw the things in this sp, my first thought was that my three year old grandson would be very taken with it. What I knew immediately was that nothing in this stuff pack is of any interest to me at all. No matter how I try to look at it, I can't feel any excitement and I can't imagine any use for the items at all. From one point of view, there is just too much of it, with little possibility of using any of the items in a different way, or there is too little of it to create a decent story around it. One tree isn't going to make a world! There's no sweet shop, no register - and not only this, most of it seeems to be centred around stuff that already exists, with a cake or two stuck on top.

So why does it bother me? Because I feel a little resentment that I am missing out on a stuff pack that I could have used or enjoyed had it not been so 'themed'. Saying that everyone and any one knows her music is implying that you're a nobody if you don't. I had never heard of Katy Perry until EA decided to insert her into the game. I don't listen to pop music or the radio and I avoid television commercials like the plague. I certainly don't live under a rock and probably have been exposed to more than you can imagine. Just because people have heard the songs does not mean they will immediately associate them with Katy Perry. I agree with this. I think the "worst" outfit is probably the cupcake bra because it's suggestive (doesn't really bother me, but I can see how it bothers some people). But the rest of it, although it may be a little out there, is pretty tame. I mean you've got a handful of outfits with short shorts and mini skirts (we already have those in the game), tight dresses (we have those too), and one or two midriff baring tops (got those too). So, I don't think of it as trashy so much as over the top in style, which obviously does not appeal to everyone.

I like the sense of humor. I am not a big KP fan, and her presence on the cover doesn't matter to me one way or the other because I like the content within. It also doesn't matter to me why anyone else is or isn't buying it. Some people aren't buying it because they don't like Katy Perry. Ok. Others don't like the price. Ok. Other people just sincerely don't like the content. Ok. For some it's a combination of all three. None of these reasons bother me because it's up to everyone else to form his or her opinion, just like I've formed mine, and I think it's cute. The other issue is that given the marketing blitz about a super stuff pack they could have filled out the clothing count with new meshes for all the clothing, not count 5 dresses as new content when the mesh is the same and just the pattern changes (an the pattern counts as content too) so you end up with a count of 10 items there when there are really only 1 mesh plus 5 patterns.

That and a very limited selection of men's items , I think a pair of pants and a shirt or maybe it was one outfit but they certainly had more they could do for men for this SP. I think some of the clothing rates 'trashy' but that has never been a downside to sims clothing before, but again I think that the obvious marketing to a younger demographic has some people wondering if its wrong to attract tweens to trashy clothing or to attract with other content and expose to trash.

Actually some of the clothing is what appeals to me the most but I am not paying 29.99 for a few dresses endorsed by Katy Perry. Eloquently stated, and I agree with you emphatically Motay.

I avoid "pop" culture for what I consider to have more breadth and depth. I am well read and I too have led a diverse and rich life to date. To insult me because I didn't know who Katy Perry was, nor did I care to know, is ludicrous.

She is a meme I could have lived my entire life without knowing, and been fine for it.

Whimsical and fun? I'm not opposed to a candyland theme, a candy store, or any number of things that the stuff pack seems to pretend to be suggesting it *wants to be*.

But others have already said it more succinctly -- EA has failed to convince me it's worth what they are asking for it. Stormwench has done a great service to point out how it's *not* new content but reskinned. I would be happy to pay for some of it at store prices.

I would have rather seen a stuff pack, the effort and time (development, marketing) invested in something that could have brought the community closer together and the game forward as a whole, rather than been so divisive.

And while I am fine with mature content being in the game, I don't have one problem with EA skirting the teen rating with mature-ish content, since I'm an adult and a pure-kiddie game would drive me off, I'm not here to play Hello Kitty Adventure Island--I find the cupcake bras and cherry whatnots trashy. There is a difference between seductive, alluring or just plain attractive (in my opinion) and over the top costume wear that just does not have a place in how I play the game.

Others have already pointed out that it's fine for EA to claim that we can recolor the garments, but if we only have four slots to recolor (even if some of those slots could hold complex patterns) what are we going to be left with that we can't recolor away?

The problem is that EA is twisting the whole thing a bit. The obvious marketing is for the 'tweens' which is essentially younger then the T rating. EA wanted a T rating and worked hard to get it because they did not want to be seen as a kids game (that does not sell) and hoped that they would pick up on 'tweens' who like the T rating just like those under 17 drool to get into R rated movies. This is the demographic they are pushing for - the demographic that they attract with Sims Social more then TS3 and that's where the pink bubblegum decor and furniture comes. Most of that age group probably has not seen the clothing in the videos and do't get the adult 'tongue in cheek' joking around about it. They see clothing like this as 'adult' clothing and it attracts too. Its not our job to police the teen rating so if they get the game that's up to parents but what is EA saying to the demographic they want money from?

Why, when this SP literally screams to more mature players the need for kid and toddler clothing to go along with the theme, but what 'tween' is attracted to clothing they would wear? So it was left out as was most men's clothing as its can't really be suggestive and attractive to the age group.

While there are some dresses I like I am sad that the clothing is so limited and to make the mega stuff pack seemed stuff they have done things like 5 dresses all the same mesh but different patterns applied, which is not 4 new dresses but could have been. If they did not come up with enough women's clothing to fill all the places why not some men's or kids? I really don't need more women's clothing to be honest with the ones I have gotten in the EP, SP and store stuff I have bought most of this is not much different from what I already have so while they are good ideas for colors and patterns they are not necessities to add to the game. It actually comes from Katy Perry, it's her theme. And although tweens listen to her, I don't think they are her main demographic. I think her main listeners fall a little older than that, mid teens to early twenties.

I agree with that, and a few others who were quite eloquent in their lack of regards for this stuff pack. From everybody else all I see is the same thing they could cut and paste from one expansion or stuff pack thread to another and can be summed up this way. "We will buy any expansion or Stuff Pack of the Sims regardless of what is in it or who is on the cover." So paying Katy Perry is pretty much a waste of money and effort for this bunch and turned off everybody else. Not that I'm knocking that. Do your thing. Yup. It of course is possible. Music is something that speaks to a person's soul, and I don't dispute that someone can like a wide and varied set of music and be well-read and brilliant and a great person, worth knowing, and like all sorts of things. I don't have a problem with diversity. I don't have a problem with fun. I have exceptionally eclectic tastes in music. In fact, I acknowledge that if singing did have to have an audio-component, I'm content with what we got in Showtime. It's not sterling praise for the singing, but it's not offensive, some of it's fun even, until I've heard it a hundred times and then being yelled at to turn it off because I'm earning 20k in tips

Be careful not to mix and match what I say about the attire specifically and taking personal exception to being insulted simply because I don't follow a crowd. In saying this there is no implicit or explicit "dis'ing" of those who do follow a crowd. Everyone is responsible for their choices, and entitled to the benefits and complications of said choices. I take people at face value and for what they say and do, not what people say about them or who their favorite musicians are.

I hope that's clear.

The difference between tacky and trashy is a purely personal perception. And in a way it's contextual for me. Look at it this way:

Suppose I have a new game. Suppose I have the KPSP installed. Suppose I got it because I DO like the sandbox, the fountain, some dresses, some content, and it was a gift (heh) or really cheaply marked down.

I'm playing... and playing... and then there are townies running around in dresses that I just would rather not see in the context of the game I am playing. I have to use a mod to make them stop. I don't want to have to.

As it is now, I already see townies wearing things that I don't want them wearing. I don't want to have to uninstall the Mrs. Frankenstein hair style in order to keep the paparazzi lady in front of my house from wearing it. But there she is, wearing it. Next she'll be in the cupcake dress WITH that hair.

I can't ultimately always control when I see the content. The RNG will dress sims how it sees fit. Are there workarounds? Sure. Do I want to have to do it? No.

Also the difference between using trashy and tacky for me comes out of knowing *who* the targeted demographic is. I can't help but have that overlay of reality hanging down on my head knowing that EA is marketing this to a specific subset of people. Yes, it's my own opinion. Yes, it sours the experience for me. My perceptive and cognitive filters are just that. Is it my choice? Yes. Do I have control over when to apply them and when not to? Sure, some of the time. Could I now? Probably, but I do not personally feel EA deserves it.

No, it doesn't sour it for everyone, and EA believes strongly enough that they are making the right decisions that they will make money hand over fist even if they don't get money from me. *shrug* That's capitalism in action. All I can do is voice my opinion and choose not to buy.

No, I didn't want a cupcake dress for a child I wanted some of the in-theme stuff geared towards the under-represented groups as clothing and hair go. I may not write it as clearly but I do agree with what Stormwench is saying in her posts.

I have to concur. EA would never be able to find a EP or SP that everyone will be happy with. The next EP, for example, if it's magic will thrill some, and if it doesn't have seasons will irk others, or if it does and it doesn't do justice to magic in order to include seasons will irk yet others. I get it.

I can't say if there would be more or fewer complaining, I didn't see the numbers on the last SP. Wasn't reading the forums.

Am I complaining? Yup. I'm disappointed and annoyed with EA, but I've been anything but terse about the reasons.

No, in the *video* I did not find them trashy. I watched the video and enjoyed it as entertainment. Surprised?

However, I think you express it well -- I agree, and I don't think I need to see it in action to find out, I don't think it will "translate well into the game."

Now -- if you would never use it... and I wouldn't (not even as a singer costume for a career) that's one less piece of "new" content in the SP. It *devalues* the SP further for me.

I for example love sweet treats. But I have hated other stuff packs. I refused to buy them. I finally did get 1 of them free with showtime. I have it installed, but there is nothing in it that I have used so far. So I am thinking of uninstalling it.

It is the same way with the sims 3 store. There are tons of things that I totally hate and would never buy.

Yup. It of course is possible. Music is something that speaks to a person's soul, and I don't dispute that someone can like a wide and varied set of music and be well-read and brilliant and a great person, worth knowing, and like all sorts of things. Text is a harsh medium for me. I fail on "tone of voice" sometimes when I'm trying to be plain spoken. Also sarcasm can elude me. Dangerous huh!

But as for music, most of what I consider favorite bands to this day I did not discover myself, they were "gifts" from friends. Things I never in a million years would have considered listening to or buying, and one day someone played something for me or brought something over while visiting. You do realize that it takes years to make an expansion pack. It takes at least a 14+ months to make a stuff pack. This isn't coming from me, this is coming straight from EA.

Things that are coming out now have been worked on for at least 2 years. Taking a poll about what what should be released is not going to work. They should take their opinions in consideration yes, but overall fans don't know how the code works, they don't know what is practical and why something they want wouldn't work. 6 monthes is certainly a short enough time to ask us, 6 monthes in advance, if we we want to see either this or that for the next SP. I think even if it does take two years to make an EP, by this state in the game, players will definitely know what they want to see in a future EP, and while having a suggestion forum is nice and all, it does leave to a lot of opportunity for every and any type of suggestion people can come up with. A vote on 2 or 3 specific things is much more practical.

I think your math is a bit off considering how the guru's explained how the teams worked. What you may have it confused with is the fact that to code the EP's at least so they are preparing for EP's that will be coming in the future, plans for what they will be and how they will work is design information they do several years ahead. Actual work takes a lot shorter time. But that is also why there are limited releases and they stagger EP and SP releases.

Its pretty obvious, after the Live Chat, and how little they admired was game ready for the demo that they had not put much work into it at that point, so they had not been working on this for 14 months - heck it did not look like they had worked on it for more then 4 weeks. Since it has been less then 4 weeks to complete the SP since the Live Chat I think 4 weeks woad be generous for the time they worked on the few items ready to show.

True that they know years in advance, at least for EPs, what will be the upcoming EPs and in what order but I doubt work starts on an new EP until after they go gold with the current EP to be released. The SP team probably has less advanced plans as to what the next SP would be but normally they do seem to be working on it from the time they release one through when the next one is sent out to the publisher.

I would say the store team probably had less time ahead that they have planned out which sets would be released when, and may have a few going at once and that could determined even which is released when.

Its one thing to have plans to do an EP in the futures, or an SP for that matter and you can still listen to what people are saying about what they would like to see if "a pets is done' or ' a season is done' and so on.

I think what you are haring from people is that when this SP was poorly received to start with and they did their 'emergency Live Chat' for damage control they exposed the fact that very little had been completed and there was time where things could be done that could make a difference in how people felt about this SP.

Whats the point to open a discussion form months before a release if they don't want to hear what people say? If its true that everything is done years before they announce it then why gather feedback and just open the forum on release day. Someone obviously thinks the feedback might be worth hearing. It may have backfired this time since the majority of this forum are not gushing over the KPST, and usually its a majority supporting releases. They spend the entire Live Chat trying to convince everyone that they were being supported 100% and there were no negative comments - and certainly did not let any negative ones in the chat.

Of course these stuff packs and expansions are all storyboarded out, the store probably is the only thing spontanious we'll see, but this doesn't mean we can't listen to fans. EA would do well to listen because it mean their sales. Now should the listen to just the ones online no. However if sale numbers aren't boosting to the numbers they want then they have to figure out what info is best. So that is what forums are for. Both negative and postive feedback create door ways for testing for EA games to see what their consumers like and don't like. Generally if they see a lot of outrage here and that reflects in their sales then yes they are going to pay attention and listen.

Though in my opinion an idea like this isn't a bad idea, much like the people of this forum have said. The theme is not bad it's the implementing of the theme that is the problem. There isn't content for a variety of player types and they want to have more use out of the stuff pack then just a candy land. That is understandable, and it's just business. Customers see a price hike they want a better value for their dollar. In this case they felt the candy theme should be used for practical use in the game. Ea didn't play upon that and this was the result.

Just snipping the top part to comment here.

The TSR folks and anyone else in the community-at-large who builds does not have to follow the same design flow that EA does, for better or worse. The store content does indeed get to follow a more rapid deployment system, and it's often a smaller chunk of content, or content that is likely to need less testing (whatever EA has that *does* pass for testing).

I'm pretty sure that EA is still stuck with a standard/traditional/modified waterfall development process for their EPs -- so they certainly will take the 14-18 months from sign-off on the theme to delivery.

Prediscovery/Discovery -> Requirements -> Development -> Testing -> Deployment -> Maintenance

Depending on the particular project, well ... deployment and development are generally the shortest phases in my experience.

Throw into this fact that they rely on offshore development with onshore expertise and you are adding time, even if they do overnight builds. It just adds up. And corporate overhead is a sad fact of the development process in, well, a corporation. Bureaucracy is bleh,

Product roadmaps are generatlly penciled in two years out, and budgeted a year in advance. Sure EA is a huge corporation, but again, I emphasize that even if you're in a money making division, the goal is *always* to do more with less in a company where wallstreet is involved.

And even if a developer were to spend all weekend of his or her own time building something really cool for an EP it might not get incorporated because 1) they already might be working all weekend to get the EP out anyway, 2) there might not be adequate money budgeted to test the cool thing incorporating it into the EP.

And then marketing/EA would be in control of the price point/value/brand/roadmap, and it might get released to the store at some point anyway.

Honestly with the store, SPs that don't deliver new game functionality could be done away with, IMO. The last few stuff packs don't seem to have enough "stuff" compared to some of the really nice store sets. I'd personally rather see a continuous stream of high quality store sets and more premium content than worry about the availability of something on a disc.

Hey, now! "Trashy" is actually cute and unique to some degree. I would defiantly wear that cupcake bikini, in the real world. I think what others' find "trashy" I think it is cute. But then again, I have a nose stud, chunky highlights, and a lower back tattoo, and most of my style consists of loud Lady Gaga type of things with Hello Kitty and Leopard Prints, and I like potty mouth, offensive TV shows like Family Guy, South Park, Beavis and B.u.t.t.head, Jersey Shore, the old 2 1/2 Men (and anything Charlie Sheen related) and looking forward to Anger Management. (But I like rap music, the "degrading" lyrics don't bother me, because the beat is distracting and great. I think the history behind it is fascinating). I'm an olive skinned brunette. I can't stand itunes and avoid it as much as possible.
I had to use it to install the os for my ipad (which is extremely overrated, as most Apple products are).
Before Showtime I had no idea who she was either.
Perhaps at 30 I am too old?

I lead a full life but had to resort to Google in reguards to KP. First thing that came up - Katy Perry crashed a baby shower for the sole purpose of telling off the mother-to-be for becoming pregnant out of wedlock.

Whoa. Please reread my posts. I have not bashed anyone, in this or any other thread, except for Katy Perry. And if you are a celebrity, you are gonna get a little of that. Frankly, the money probably more that makes up for anything I have to say about her.

Nor have I said, or implied that people who like this pack are trashy. I don't like the clothes. I would not wear them, and I wouldn't allow my underage kids to wear them. Interestingly I do use ITunes, sometime but I don't buy just the 'newest hot song' they list so that I can claim I know all the hot stars. I get music I like from performers I like so, no, iTunes did not push KP into my music world. I listen to alternative radio stations and believe it or not she is not on their 'most played list'. I rarely browse pop music in the music store (now that MJ died) so I guess I missed the pink glittered DVD cover that was meant to attract me as a music lover.

I don't consider myself out of touch with the music world just because KP is not my favorite artist.

Since I don't know her music it does not get me all excited that her music is in the game; actually none of the music really excites me and I often find it annoying and usually turn it off when playing. Sims music is not my venue or what I determine my music likes and dislikes on. Personally songs in simlish done seem to offer much on the vocals if you ask me - I like to understand whats being sung.

The fact that I don't care does not mean I hate KP, but it means that's not a selling point for me. She may be riding high on a career now, and so can get endorsements but two years from now sims purchasers could be saying "Katy who?" because singers come and go pretty quickly in most cases in the pop world (unless your MJ). What it does mean is that I can't see paying an extr $10 for her endorsement on the SP - its a meaningless $10.

Had this been a normally priced $19.99 SP even if they talked about it being 'inspired' by KP and had they not tried to link it to an EP (which even GuruJen said it could not work with ST as SP's can only work with the base game - so apparently those writing the 'spin' for this SP don't know that) I would have tolerated the pink fluffy stuff at least to buy it for 19.99 and register it so the collector in me would not have the a grayed out icon.

I don't really think that KP fans that are not TS3 players are going to invest in the base game, just to get an SP and maybe the EP with her name on it just because they are fans. That's a pretty good hunk of money to lay out to play a game you know nothing about just to get some stuff she may or may not have directly inspired (since its inspired by her show props and those are designed by set designers and I have seen how differently she has furnished her home I am iffy on who inspired what) these pieces EA may not find the sales they are thinking they will get of this Sp and a fan base they won't bring in just cause they like KP. I know who Katy Perry is (much to my chagrin), but only because a friend of mine used to blast her "I Kissed a Girl" song over and over when she was drunk (the friend, not Katy Perry). My brother-in-law used to talk about how KP was attractive (also when he was drunk, strangely enough). I don't know any of her music except for what my friend used to sing along to, and the only line I remember is about Chapstick. It was standard pop, nothing that really made an impression on me.

Other than that, my experience with Katy Perry is minimal, at best. I do vaguely remember her being briefly in the news when she divorced Russell Brand (who also advertised for Pets...interesting), but only when I didn't have a chance to change the channel. I can't say that I agree with your comment that she's always in the news, but then again I don't follow celebrity news and the like because doing so strikes me as a shallow way to spend my news-watching time, when there are more important things happening out there. Tabloids disgust me, and entertainment news just makes me sad for the state of humanity. I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. It doesn't mean we are uninformed in general, or that we live under rocks. It just means that we don't care in the slightest about this celeb's weight gain or that celeb's romantic life.

But head over to a Rhianna, Brittney Spears, or Madonna concert, and then you really see what trashy is. The audience at a KP concert are happy and delightful - where as the audiences at the other three - well they are not definitely happy and nice behaving people.

Exactly! The entire pack is made up of costumes and props, except for a small handful of normal outfits and objects (t-shirt and jeans, candy jars, etc.). Yet, for some reason, they're being sold to us as everyday wear and furniture. I don't know about you, but my sims live regular lives in the regular world - they aren't trapped in one of KP's music videos. If the developers had decided to focus this around KP's everyday style with a handful of the stage outfits, classed as career outfits (for performers to use) and not classed as an outfit a townie would automatically select, that'd be fine. Or if they'd made it a store set so we could pick and choose what to buy and install individually, that would've been fine, too. But they didn't, so that renders this pack worse than useless to me, a more realistic player who hates the look of the melted cookie hat and cupcake bra and would really not want to see that my townies.

Your post makes me really think, and about word choice.

I think one of the problems is that when someone says "trashy" one person might infer that it has a sexually derogatory connotation and another person might just mean "junk." Then later, depending on context, the same person who used it to mean junk might use it to refer to something that is sexually inappropriate in context.

In another post, someone pointed out the KP clothing in KPSP would make fine Mardi Gras or carnivale wear and that put it in a whole other light for me. Context matters.

Unfortunately the game isn't too smart when it comes to context. I spent a long time on 45 children + grandchildren making sure they all had nice clothes before moving them into homes. Threw a birthday party and the guests showed up wearing flippers + formal wear.

It's not about what I would wear, what I did or didn't wear to parties, heh, or my semi-professional gigs as a costume designer. It's about what my sims show up wearing. Some folks think it will be great and fun and spontaneous to have the RNG do odd things, I just don't. If it were the one-off oddball that was insane or inappropriate then sure. But it's not, it's badly coded attire or a badly thought out random system. It's where that line of play crosses into work, where options exist to micromanage it but I don't want to have to, because when play becomes work I generally stop doing it.

I have heard one song by KP - I looked it up especially on YouTube because of Showtime and the commotion around her. I don't know which one it was, but she was wearing something glittery and her hair was blue.

Other than that, there have been hundreds of singers and bands that I completely missed. It's just not something I'm interested in, so even if I do hear them they'll go in one ear out the other without me registering the song or who is singing it.

I only recognised Pixie Lott's 'Mama Do' in the supermarket the other day because I'd heard it in Simlish. I'd never heard of her before either.

I think this raises some interesting issues about "revealing" clothing. (I'm not really responding to your post, Writing_Reg, it just inspired me to make a point I've been thinking about while reading some of the posts about the clothes in this pack, so I figured I'd quote you).

In my opinion, a partially clothed or even entirely naked person is not inherently sexual unless they are behaving sexually. A naked person on a beach playing in the water can be less sexual than a silicone-filled model arching her back and licking her lips on a magazine cover, even if all her "private" parts are covered up. Our kids are constantly bombarded with sex and are simultaneously being shielded from it to an almost Puritanical degree. They see and hear all about the sensationalized parts of sex in the media, but god forbid they see a naked rear end or a female ******. <-- (the part that babies nurse from, since apparently [i]we can't even say the proper word for an anatomical part on this forum, which pretty much makes my point, thank you very much[/i]).

At the same time, there are certain connotations inherent in a cupcake bra (complete with cherry!) or an adult Girl Scout uniform. Maybe they are not readily apparent to everyone, but I won't go into more detail since it could get a little creepy for a family-friendly forum. Sufficed to say, the problem that many people have with these items is not that the clothing is physically revealing, but that it "says" something in its design. I'd personally be less squicked out by a dominatrix outfit or actual stripper clothes than that Girl Scout outfit, even though it's more "wholesome" on the surface.

You are misunderstanding the objection. And yes, it is better, in a certain way. Why?

As I pointed out in my last post, there is a big difference between depicting adults in revealing clothing or woohooing, and depicting adults in [i]sexualized children's clothing[/i]. The former relates to sex. No big deal, in my opinion, although more conservative people might object. The latter relates to [i]comparing adult women to children[/i] and [i]implying that children's clothing are appropriate in a sexualized context[/i]. You don't really have to be a hardcore feminist or child's safety advocate to understand why that would be offensive to some people, do you?

It bothers me that so many people are misunderstanding what it is that many people are actually objecting to: not that the clothes are revealing or sex is involved in the game, but something more subtle about the styles and the social implications of them. When these two things happen at once (which is what some people feel is happening with some of the outfits in this SP), it both infantalizes the women wearing them, and implies that on some level children are sexy. But come on, even though it's on an adult, it is still a child's outfit. No I totally get and agree with what you're saying, although I'm not opposed to it either. But I can see how some people would be offended by it. It goes along the same lines as dressing as a sexy schoolgirl for Halloween, or sexy Red Riding Hood/Alice in Wonderland/etc. It's meant to be tongue-in-cheek (like this entire SP) but some people are more affronted by it than others.

taffy87, I agree that it's often an issue of semantics. Other words I would use for some of this content would be garish, gaudy and gimmicky (and that's just the G's!) but a lot of people will look at the same items and consider them cute, fun and whimsical. To each their own!

First of all, I enjoy this SP and am looking forward to it very much and don't find offense in anything shown so far. I was just trying to help katana explain her point since you and a few others didn't seem to be getting it. So, don't lump me into the 'finding fault with the pack' group. And plus, the same can be said for you about finding excessive and obnoxious ways of over-glorifying this pack in multiple threads, just not this one. She said sexualized child's clothing and that is different then when you say sexy children's clothing. I don't think you get the difference. Sexy children's clothing is what they put on little girls to make them look older for the runway in a pageant, sexualized children's clothing for adults is clothing that normally a child wears but is made into adult wear in a inappropriate manner that tends to turn on a certain segment with certain fantasies. Very much a different thing.

I have no problem with an adult girl scout uniform as adults wear those (called girl scout leaders) only their midriff is not showing and the skirt is not 3 sizes too small and too short. This was obviously to dress up an adult to look like a young child and it has connotations that step over the boundaries even in a game that has sex involved in it. When my teenager declares it 'sick' and not in a good way I think that even teens get that difference.

I really don't want to see NPC's wiggling around my town in cupcake bras as outer clothing and strutting through the park in a child's girl scout uniform that has been sexualized as being too tight and too short and exposing parts of the body. I was a girl scout leaders for a couple of years and actually was insulted when I saw the uniform depicted that way. Sure I show my midriff now and then but not in my girl scout uniform.

I understand that, maybe in less then good taste, some of these may have been costumes for a performance but these are not performance costumes, this is everyday wear for our sims and that means that the NPC's wear them too, with no control over when and how.

The excuse of "Master Suite' was worse does not really fly - that was all sleepwear and lingerie, my NPC's don't wander down the street or visit the bookstore in their sleepwear. I had been watching this thread and quite pleased to see you posting what I thought was a very succinct and clearly worded explanation to people, and yet some are still not getting how this is different from master suite attire. And when Stormwench tries to explain, I've seen people wrap that up also as "hating on the SP" and confusing it with her other very clearly stated reasons.

I will be as clear as I can possibly be (while taking Nyquil). 1) Kids clothes should not be sexy in the first place, regardless of who is wearing them. 2) Adults should not dress like children (especially not "sexy" children) unless they want to be seen as such. When these two things happen at once (which is what some people feel is happening with some of the outfits in this SP), it both infantalizes the women wearing them, and implies that on some level children are sexy. Neither one of those things are good, obviously. It plays into what kethrydrake was talking about when she mentioned "creepy fantasies."

heidi11576, you can say this is just "my issue" and imply that I'm some sort of pervert for making this connection, if you wish. But come on, even though it's on an adult, it is still a child's outfit. Girl Scout uniforms are for [i]children[/i] and they are not sexy in the real world, except in the case of some particularly disturbing Halloween costumes I've seen. Maybe the objection would be more obvious if it were a sexualized [i]baby's[/i] outfit instead of a sexualized [i]child's[/i] outfit that adult Sim were wearing? That would be incredibly creepy, no? The problem is with the fact that it's gonna be in The Sims. I know my parents gave a huge crap about ratings but even my mom knew The Sims was a harmless game. And that's why this stuff pack is bad, because up until know all these parents' kids were fine, but this one really shouldn't go into the hands of 10 year old kids. At least with GTA you know what you're getting yourself into. Of course it's rated T for teen, so if a parent buys this for their 9 year old it's their fault, but I do think a lot of them have come to known that it's a harmless dollhouse game and it's really not that bad for a 9 year old. But they might re-think buying this SP had they known what's in it.

I'm not saying I couldn't dress my sims up for a concert into one of these, but a few crazy ones will do that job just fine (I'm satisfied with Showtime's dresses, really.) And now it's being forced down my throat, with that producer chick claiming how it's the best thing since sliced bread.

One as far as I can see, pants - like all the ones in the game in a bright color and a sleeveless t-shirt - in a bright color. I guess KP does not inspire men's clothing.

This is another reason this SP is in such a niche. They could have used 'inspired' but not kept it just to KP's inspiration of sexualized children's clothing, and stage props and added things like children clothing inspired by ice cream colors and appliques, used styles from some men performers and used bright pink and aqua (we can recolor) as well as making some objects that could be used other then in a pink world and a gift wrap wallpapered house.

The fact that the producers insisted on keeping in narrowly inspired by just stage props and performance clothing is a problem for this SP. I could use a pink bush in my landscaping - I have one in my real yard but not it has leaves not cotton candy and does not have sexualized cupcakes glued to it. If I can mix and match items outside of a theme I can't use that theme. Her video certainly didn't feature malt-shaped arcade machines, you know? So there's no reason that EA couldn't have taken KP's style as an inspiration and then expand that to toddler, kid, teen, and male clothes. I don't doubt that things she wore in the video and on tour or the stage props were not real clothing or stage props. I just don't believe that this was all her own ideas or designs. She has her own set designers and they get credits for the design in all her videos and on her tour information. The performance clothing and red carpet wear is also designed by others and we all know, from Angelina Jolie to Bette White they all wear a designer dress given to them free for the designer to get publicity. They may pick from a few offered styles by they are not wearing their own designs. I suspect most of her performance costumes are designers ideas who think they will fit the show and while she may get approval on them I bet few or none come from her head.

And some of this stuff is obviously just EA, like KP said in the video promo she did about the KPST she would like some props made for her show. Basically that means EA thought it up, it was not a copy of something she had. That does not mean all of it is just EA's design but even their ads say stuff 'inspired' by her, not direct copies.

There is a whole other side to KP that her fans seem to know nothing about and have built up her stage appearances as her real life style. This woman has a lovely home that she has said is her favorite place and how its decorated is her favorite style. She has her own personal touches she is very proud of and none of it is even reminiscent of her stage designs. She also wears some lovely clothing, and while it still might be designer gifts its not at all like what is designed by her tour wardrobe department. I think its a shame that her fans seem determined to define who and what she is by what they see in a music video or on stage. Had EA seen beyond that we probably would have seen them produce a more popular SP.

Katy's sofa prop is a plastic sofa with paint. She said in the full length interview that EA's version of her sofa prop is better. That she wanted someone to make her a real life sofa based on the version that EA did. That it was better and cuter than her prop version.

EA based their version on her candy sofa doll's toy. KP has a line of California Gurls dolls that are based on her candyland theme. They are all dressed in her clothing and have cute little plastic versions of her stage props. Many of the things seen in the SP come from those kid's toys. Like the arcade machines for example. The more I look at these the more I realize something. While they maybe overly bright to some people, even gaudy to the point of being garish (and other than the colors I am not really seeing a candy theme) they are not suggestive in a trashy way.

In my opinion there is a big difference in a dress made up of bubbles with a short skirt and wrapping large breasts in silver with tassels that say they are "Katy's Kisses". There is one thing to say its candy themed, its another to take candy across that line into inappropriate dress.

yes, I know its for her performance and performances are supposed to be suggestive and she is not wearing it to a party in the case of the other two dresses, but did anyone stop and think that as much as KP keeps this to her stage dress our sims might not want to walk around town like this? I know that the kisses dress is not in the SP (as far as we know) but I think that might be the difference that bothers some people. Like the cupcake bra or the cupcake trees it took it beyond fun and imaginative to blatantly suggestive and where many don't want to go with their sims - at least around town.

Take the uniforms sailors in the Navy wore in the bygone era of the pinup girl.
Male uniform - ok
Female sexualized version of uniform for adult women - ok because it is based on the adult male version as Pinups and in no way is affiliated with the child's version.
Female asexualized version of uniform for adult female - ok
Male child shorts and shirt version based on adult male - ok
Female child dress based on adult male or adult female asexualized version - ok

Now lets take a women’s outfit like the French maid.
Female work uniform version for adult female - ok
Female sexualized version for adult females based off of female work uniforms - ok

Now lets use the Girl Scout and Brownies uniforms.
Female child uniform for young girls - ok
Adult female uniform aka Scout Leaders uniform for adult women - ok
Adult female outfit based off of female child’s uniform now sexualized for adult female - not okay ever
Adult female outfit based off of female adult uniform now sexualized for adult female - not okay because the Brownies and Girl Scout is strongly associated with children and would be no different than the former.

I choose those outfits as examples because they all exist in real life and may be easily identifiable to the majority.

Maybe that's why they (badly) photoshopped in a replacement face for her on the KPST box art - she's in the same dress, probably making the same uncomfortable face in the original photo. I love the content in the pack and know some people who love it to, my 10 year old son loves it as well. I think there is nothing wrong about people not liking something or not agreeing with everything but I don't like it when people are overly critical and rude about it or act like the Sims team owes them something. It isn't the Sims teams fault if you can't afford a game. I value the work they put into my game and understand their difficulties in trying to work out the issues we have within this game so I don't mind paying the extra.

There are many people not buying the SP due to the price who can well afford to buy it and would buy it except for what the price hike was for.

If EA said, look we need to charge more because we have a bigger team, and things cost more with salaries and overhead and all the hard work we do and all the issues we deal with so now the SPs will need to be $29.99 now I think most of us would have shrugged, said we understood and bought the darned thing.

But what they said is that this was going to be a mega pack, more content then ever seen before, just dozens and dozen more items then ever, and that's not what appears to be happening. It was not hard to figure out that the extra $10 was mostly for KP's endorsement just like why the KPC edition of Showtime was $10 more then the regular version and both contained the exact same things, except for KP on teh box and her poster inside (unless you got a DD then you did not even get the poster). It was pretty obvious that this was not due to the team working hard or anything else but to put money into KP's pocket without touching the normal amount EA usually makes on a SP.

The whole 'mega stuff pack' story never even came out until after people started raising points about the increased cost of this SP to benefit KP and why we could not have an opt out version for those that did not care to have KP's face on the box and could then pay $10 less like they did with Showtime. Even then I suspect many would have still found the pack of little use to them but the people that buy and collect everything sims would have gone ahead and gotten it, just to have it in the collection, if they were not having to pay for the endorsement.

SimGuruJenn did say there was a lot more in this pack and I believe her, the team are very nice and love what they have created. You are misunderstanding the objection. And yes, it is better, in a certain way. Why?

As I pointed out in my last post, there is a big difference between depicting adults in revealing clothing or woohooing, and depicting adults in [i]sexualized children's clothing[/i]. The former relates to sex. No big deal, in my opinion, although more conservative people might object. The latter relates to [i]comparing adult women to children[/i] and [i]implying that children's clothing are appropriate in a sexualized context[/i]. You don't really have to be a hardcore feminist or child's safety advocate to understand why that would be offensive to some people, do you?

It bothers me that so many people are misunderstanding what it is that many people are actually objecting to: not that the clothes are revealing or sex is involved in the game, but something more subtle about the styles and the social implications of them. To each their own, and it's totally fine with me if most people don't object, since it [i]is[/i] just a game...but please don't confuse "I don't want my Sims to dress up like sexy children" with "I hate sex in every way." Whereas KP's stage outfits are more sexualised. Nikki also seems to dress like that all the time though I don't follow her antics all that closely, whereas from what I have seen of KP outside of her music performances she seems to gravitate between different styles. I highly doubt KP on an average day would ever walk out in a cupcake bra.

Which begs the question; why did we just get a bunch of stage clothes for an age group that didn't need more content anyway that have no practical uses and IMO look a bit dodgy? Hmm....
